Pours a nice brown color that looks rather rustic with a manageable head that lasts for a few minutes. It gives off a rather weak smell of caramel and some chocolate with a little fudge too. The combination of these things rather complicates the taste, but it certainly has personality. I thought the finish was a bit too chalky, but overall a pretty decent beer.

IMO the beer should be placed under Munich Dunkel, rather than Kellerbier category as is the case at the time of this review. Tasted a week ago, just a couple of days after the declared BBE date (10. August 2010). 500 ml into tulip. Pours clear amber/coppery brown body with beige, quickly dissipating head leaving no lacy remnants. The nose is restrained malty sweetness, caramel and evident nutty aroma. Caramel flavor, prominent nuttiness, slightly bitter from roasted malts. Soft to medium carbonation, thin and simplistic. Ammerndorfer Dunkel lacks depth and significant melanoidin character to be a good interpretation of the style.

Faint aroma of cereal, possibly some grainy dark malts a some cocoa. Short, foamy, oatmeal colored head fades slowly. Transparent light brown beer has an amber hue. Flavor is malt dominated and refreshing. Caramel malt base with some cocoa on top. Hops are floral/tea flavored, but barely noticeable. Moderately light body holds a little bit of fine carbonation. Finish is lightly bitter (like cocoa or dark malt, not from the hops) and slightly astringent. It has the crisp, and slightly grainy malt profile of other landbiers/zwickels while adding some interesting dark malts. Tasty and enjoyable. A second winner from this brewery.
