Wow. I had no idea when I ordered this beer today that it was so low in alcohol. I knew that black lagers weren't necessarily stronger than lighter lagers, but 3.8%? I really enjoyed this and now that I know I can have this for Breakfest (lol) I'm hooked. Great black color, very good malty test, very, very drinkable. A very difficult beer to sip slowly. I never had a german Schwarz as good as this. HIghly recommend.

Served on tap at a restaurant/bar in Prague in a large half-litre mug.

Poured a dark brown with a garnet hue when held to the light; thick off white head of tightly formed bubbles. Aroma was slightly roasty, but I got more malt sweetness and even a hint of dark fruit. Taste was also slightly roasty, but not overly so, low to no hop presence in the flavor, just enough bitterness to counter the sweet malt. Medium body leaning toward a dry finish, though not astringent.

Overall recommend. Not like some harsher German schwarzbiers that I've had - this one seemed more like a 'dark pils' to me - smooth, clean dark lager. Interesting take on the style.

(From notes)

A - Poured with a finger of light tan, creamy looking head. Deep, dark brown that verges on black in color. Hints of shimmering ruby around the edges. Just OK head retention.

S - Slightly sweet maltiness up front; touch of dark fruits; pretty muted overall

T - Mirrors the aroma with the hint of sweetness, but the dark fruit is actually closer to raisiny/pruney. Solid enough, but not that complex.

M - Thinner MF, a little sticky, pretty tame carbonation.

D - Pretty solid drinkability given the way below average abv. Fine session beer with just enough taste and flavor to keep things moderately interesting.

Just an OK take on the style, and there are way more complex out there. Check it out, but only if readily available.

Smell: burnt notes, some coffee, dark bread, butter, some spicy notes.

Taste: dark bread, butter, some notes of coffee; body is ok but could be better, a bit watery; hops in the background.

Overall: cheap and enjoyable beer. It has quite a lot of flavors, but they are in the background and not that easy to identify. This beer is well worth a try.

4.4% ABV, brewed for the Swedish market.

The colour is deep dark brown-black; the three finger head is airy, dark beige and firm. Some lacing.

The smell is sweet with notes of beef stock, treacle, some bitter notes and hints of toffee and prunes.

The taste is malty and a bit roasted with notes of roast beef, nuts, a quickly passing clean bitterness, prunes, caramel and dried meat. The aftertaste got some sweet malty notes with roasted flavours, earthy hints and a gentle bitterness.

The carbonation is mild (small bubbles), the liquid smooth.

A fine schwarzbier, maybe a little too conservative.

half liter on tap poured into a mug at romer plaza in frankfurt am main, germany. pours black with garnet highlights and a single finger of light brown head that remains for a few minutes.

aroma is of roasted malts, with notes of caramel and chocolate and a distant note of coffee as well.

taste is mild and roasted, with the same malt notes as the aroma and a bit more character and richness than the aroma would suggest.

mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with a silky texture and a smooth finish of lingering roasted malts.

drinkability is great. a tight profile and solid complexity make this one an excellent schwarzbier. prost!

My everyday dark lager.

On tap - smooth, creamy, with spicy aroma and majestic crown. If you empty your pint glass in less than 15 minutes, you enjoy every drop. If the pint lasts for more, you'll feel candy sugar and may find it unpleasant.

Bottled version is more balanced and somehow drier. Perfect companion to smoked meat, cheese or even fruits.

Must admit that the quality hasn't diminished in last 5-6 yrs. Quite the opposite, the beer has become tastier. Recommended!

had this in prague's old town square. great place for a brew (albeit slightly touristy)

tan rocky head over a deep mahogany beer (almost opaque) with rootbeer highlights. nice frosty lacing, especially near the top. a nice roasty nose came through the head, with no sign of hop. the mocha came through on the tongue as well, though with no grain bitterness

at first (when it was still very cool) i would have accused this beer of being thin and watery, but as it warmed it grew as well. very smooth

i'm not a huge lager fan, but this fit the bill

Draught in Prague, called Krusovice Vycepni Tmavé on the menu, but must be the same beer. Black (= very dark brown) colour, large head. Lovely malty aroma with strong elements of leather and cigarbox. Pleasant flavour of roasted malts, some caramel but not too sweet, very well balanced with the hops. For the style freaks: This is a Schwarzbier IMO, not a dunkel - but who cares, as long as the beer tastes good? I’d think the ABV was stronger than it actually is - another evidence that flavour and strength are not necessarily the same thing. Great with food or on its own. A truly enjoyable beer. Rerate bottle: I just realised I had written separate notes of the BOTTLED beer named Krusovice Cerne - I could SWEAR it was a different beer from the draught Vycepni Tmave. Notes bottle: Deep reddish brown colour. Large tan head, moderate carbonation. Moderate malty aroma. Typical dunkel flavour with low bitterness. Relatively light bodied, refreshing. Overall 13/20.

On tap in St Petersburg.
...
Served very dark with a small light tan head. Quite smooth; mouthfeel is nice; aided well by the malts. Hop balance is good with just a very little bit of bitter. There is a light hint of toasty too. A very decent dark beer.

Sampled on tap at Solber Fäss'je in Frankfurt.

This dunkel poured a dark, opaque brown color with light brown, creamy foam that clung to the glass. The smell was malty with hints of cocoa. The taste was malty with a touch of sweetness and hints of cocoa. Not much hop presence. The mouthfeel was smooth and creamy with medium body and low carbonation feel. The malty flavor lingered nicely. This was a nicely drinkable bier.

This brand is all over Moscow, and deserves its popularity. The dark version comes dark burgundy, with a lovely dark tan head that displays admirable longevity. The lace is good, not great. The smell is roasted barley with just a touch of coffee. The taste is a touch sour, with a lot of big heavy malts, followed by some mild hops. The aftertaste is pleasant, but difficult to distinguish. Krusovice is a go-to beer; when in doubt, drink it and you can't go wrong.

Had this one in Czech. Very fresh and awesome! The beer has a full, sweet caramel taste and a light hop flavour. Light roasted and chocolatey aroma. Extremely dark brown/black colour, light brown head, good lace. Very full for a beer with just 3.8% alc. Long sweet and roasted coffee finish. Very good.
