This beer is a clear, deep golden color with just the slightest lean toward amber. A soft, foamy white head fades fairly quickly while maintaining a foam and leaves some lacing here and there.
A crisp, dry hops aroma balances on the nose with a sweet malt with some grains. Nothing off-putting here, though it's extremely light.
The taste follows suit. This isn't a big beer, and I'd certainly refer to it as a pilsener rather than an imperial pilsener, but it's what I expect. While it doesn't stand out and it isn't going with the "palate destroyer" trend, this seems to be par for the course, so to speak.
The body is light without being watery, and this beer has a crisp, clean feel and a dry, herbal finish. It's definitely as refreshing as one expects from a pils.
If this was what the typical BMC was, we'd be better off for it.

Bottled on 04/15/2010. Pretty damn fresh for an European import. Pours a clear pale golden color with a solid one inch of dense head. The head has very good retention before settling to a thick cap. Heavy lacing is left on the glass. Pretty damn impressive looking for a pilsener. The aroma has more going for it than a Saaz hop smell. Definately pick up on a sweeter malt bill than others of the style. The hops also smell fresh rather than skunky. Definately benefits from being fresh. The flavor starts dry and bitter but finishes from a slightly sweet note. Plenty of hop flavor in this one. The Saaz are nicely featured. The body is light and crisp. Dry without some relief from a touch of sweet. I do not know what the other reviewers were drinking, but this is a fine example of a pils. Definatley will pick it up again.

22oz. bottle poured into a pint. Bottled on 2-25-10.

(A)- Pours a clear yet pale orange/yellow color that produced a good pure white head with good retention behind it. Left clumps of web-like lacing all around the glass as it dissipated.

(S)- A dry pale-like straw and hay profile with bits of grass-like bitterness. Some corn husk in the background.

(T)- Pretty much just like the smell dictated. A pale-like straw and hay with bits of a grass-like corn husk bitterness. Almost has a banana-like creaminess at the end which I enjoyed.

(M)- A good carbonation level and balance to it. Lightly bitter and grassy, but a clean finish. Crisp and thirst quenching.

(D)- A good pilsener for the style. Normally, I do not reach for anything in this style, but this one is pretty good when considering the style it is. Crisp and refreshing. I could drink a few of these no problem.

I'm surprised this beer got so many average to below average ratings on here, that just doesnt do justice to it. To be honest I tried it a few years back and wasnt too pleased with it at that time but I gave it another shot last week and was very impressed with how flavourful it was. Maybe they improved it lately or maybe I just had a fresh bottle? Anyways this time around this stuff was damn good. Plenty of hop flavour of the saaz variety I think and accompanied by a decent malty character as well. I dont remember it being this hoppy before. The level of bitterness is just right though- strong but not too overpowering. Full flavoured but drinkable. It produced a substantial head too that lingered til the last drop and had a full aroma of hops. Those Czechs know what they're doing when it comes to beer making I'll tell ya. Right up there with the Germans. I'll defintely be partaking in some more of this in the near future hehe. One of the best Euro lagers I've had in a while.

Pours clear gold yellow with a 1 finger foamy white head; lacing was pretty lame.

Smells of grains, malt, grass and a bit metallic; very weak nose overall.

Tastes of malt, grains, faint hops, grass, yeast/bread, lemon and a metallic finish, which is very bitter. Very average taste, which I hate to label this way, but it seems to be lumped in with all the other basic Euro-macro lagers.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp, with high carbonation and a light watery feel to it.

High drinkability which flows down easy, but the flavor's so basic that it's almost too boring to drink all night. Not good, not bad, just a decent basic beer.

Appearance - This came out a muddled yellow in color and not very attractive but did sport a nice, white head.

Smell - The rough grain is the only thing I can find in this nose.

Taste - The grain was just as bad at the taste. It was putrid and left a lingering, almost rotten kind of aftertaste. I found some light sugar in there towards the end but it wasn't very inviting.

Mouthfeel - This is light-bodied with little carbonation.

Sinkability - This was a notch below blah.

A: Nice deep golden yellow color. Not as big a head as some other reviewers noted but a nice head that lingered. Good carbonation, lots of big bubbles.

S: Excellent smell, very malty, fresh, maybe a little grassy...maybe not. It smells good.

T: Terrific example of a Czech lager. To date this is by far the closest to the beers I drank in the Czech Republic last summer that I have been able to find...much closer to the genuine article than more widely available Czech offerings like Czechvar and Urquell (which both taste much better over there than the stuff they send here). Very good satisfying flavor, malty, slightly bitter and not very hoppy. Like a real Czech beer.

M: Felt substantial in my mouth, good mouth feel, not very watery, as noted above well carbonated but it doesn't feel as bubbly as it looks.

D: Eminently drinkable. It might not be boutique enough for beer snobs but it tastes like a Czech beer should. Complex enough to drink with meat dishes yet light enough for just sitting around on the couch watching a ball game. Might be my new staple.

A: It poured clear golden yellow with a thin white head, which dissipated rather quickly. A moderate level of carbonation is visible.
S: There are light aromas of malt and noble hops in the nose.
T: A light amount of bitterness from the floral hops is the main flavor, but is nicely balanced by the underlying malts, which taste biscuity.
M: It feels rather clean, crisp and light-bodied on the palate. There is some dryness in the finish.
D: The beer is rather refreshing and easy to drink. I'm not sure if I would call it sessionable, because the taste was a bit bland and could not keep my interest for more than one.

Pours a clear gold color with a huge off white, very frothy head. Head falls slow. Nice sticky lace.

Aroma is clean, mild malt and a bit tinny Pleasant taste. Somewhat fuller than I would have guessed.

Bit of yeasty bread flavor and a mild hop finish.

Light to medium bodied in the mouth with rather low carbonation feel.

Refreshing enough but nothing mind blowing.

I like the ingredients label... Water, malt, hops. I bought the 1 Pint .9 ounce bottle for $2.49. It says Born by date (I think they mean born on date) was eight months ago. Nice clear golden straw yellow color with a massive head. As the head retreats it leaves its foam stuck to the side of the glass. Smells just as beer was intended to smell... Meaning, crisp sweet malty clean pure beer. Outstanding flavor. Sweet and malty at first followed by a mild aftertaste of bittering hops. The taste mimicks the aroma almost exactly. Slippery sweet film is left on the teeth. Slight creamy texture with the right carbonation. Very easy to drink. The Czechs do it right.

Pours a lovely Golden straw color with a decent white head that has good retention. Lacing is somewhat poor, but the nice little bubbles trailing up my tall pilsener glass keep me entertained. It gives off the aroma of soft floral hops and bready malt. This is a very clean smelling brew. Taste is nicely balanced with soft herbal, sweetly grassy and flowery hop flavor mingling with white bread malt sweetness. Firm bitterness, but lacking some of the spice and zing of other Czech pils. The finish is dry and fairly clean with just enough sweetness. This is a light bodied and very quaffable beer. Not the best example of the style but quite tasty.

A- Pours a two finger head after rigorous pour. Light golden color that leaves moderate lace.

S- Almost like that of a bud light but with a little wheat added to it.

T- Not bad but not great. A light taste of wheat and bread.

M- Fairly watery with fair carbonation. Feel like basic american macro fair.

D- Kinda high as it is more or less water.

Not bad for a $2 bottle of beer but not up to par with what I enjoy.

A - Pours with one finger of white head that rests on top of a clear, deep golden body. The head disappates quickly and leaves moderate lace.

S - A rich aroma of pilsner malt with notes of bread crusts and honey. Musty, earthy saaz hops with a hint of sulphur.

T - Sweet malt up front, honey and bread character with a little bit of husky grain. Some spicy hop flavors in the middle that fade to moderate bitterness in the finish. Lingering malt character of honey with a hint of earthy saaz hops.

M - Medium-thick body, moderately high carbonation, and a somewhat dry finish.

D - The thick, rich malt character is excellent and the spicy hops are spot on as well, especially in the aroma. The balance of honey and smooth bitterness in the finish is exactly what one expects from a Czech pilsner. There is a little sulphur aroma from the yeast, which may be technically acceptable, but I would still prefer the beer without it. I'm sure that this beer has lost a little of its character during its long trip from central Europe to the shelves of my local beer store, but it is still in pretty good shape and I can't find too much to complain about here. This is a nice change of pace from the intense stouts and IPAs that I, like most BAs, often focus on.

Brown 500 ml bottle, "born by date" 17/06/2009. For those not familiar with European dates, switch the first two numbers and it will all make sense. Poured into Samuel Smith half liter pint glass.

Poured with a 2 inch thick white head which vanished immediately, minimal thin lacing. Color is clear and golden.. Small columns of tiny bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass.

Smell is grainy, sulfurous, corn, stewed vegetables.

Taste is malty sweetness with a pronounced sulfur and mineral note, a small bit of hoppy bitterness at the end cleans it up a bit.

Mouthfeel is smooth and thin, very much a quaff-able brew. Carbonation is a bit lively and tingly despite the apparent lack of head.

Overall, a decent brew, nothing spectacular, but it gets the job done. I'd recommend this as a step above Heineken or other Euro pale lagers. Would go very well in the cooler at your next summer barbecue. I'll be drinking this one again.

Clear pale yellow color with a thin film of white head.

Grainy malts hit the nose, a vague underlying grapefruity hops smell comes in at the finish.

All in all, meh. I've had much better pilsners.

Poured into 10oz goblet. Poured a clean, clear golden yellow with a tall, fluffy white head that had decent retention and lacing.

The aroma was pleasant grain scent with none of the skunkiness that sometimes comes with this style. The taste was very similar. Balanced and neutral with a nice blend of grain and hop.

The body was typical for the style, clean, smooth and crisp. Drinkability was very good, you would want to, and could have several of these brews easily. Overall, a solid example of the style. Worth trying if you see it.

This beer is very good!!! This beer really took me by surprise. It is light, as a good Pilsner. A real Staple in Pilsner beer, probably as good as Pilsner Urquell. Beer served in an Kusovice stein (part of my glassware photography project). Beer is yellow and has a slight haze to it, forms a moderate white head that falls away leaving some lacing on the glass. Beer is moderately carbonated, large bubbles, does not prop the head up though, head falls back to become really thin and diffuse.

Beer has a good crisp pilsner smell. There is some mild sweetness in there as well as some grain-like flavors. This smells like a good lager.

Beer is thin and at first seems flavorless. There isn't much body to it at all. Its like drinking water, drinkability high. Second taste, I'll savor it more this time. Nothing up front, no bitterness at all, there is a mild aftertaste, some cereal. I missed the flavor again. I'm going to keep at this one and if something develops I'll let you know.

Not really, putting this one to bed.
