A: Pours clear golden with a large white fluffy head that dissipates after some time, leaving a little lace.

S: Bready malt, lots of citric notes - floral hops. Faint sweetness.

T: Bready malt, some faint citric notes. A bit to light in taste for my taste...

M: Body is medium and the carbonation is rich. Rather short-lived aftertaste - a bit sweet and bitter.

D: A descent Czech Pilsener, it goes down smoothly, but there are better ones out there.

Beer served in an Kusovice stein (part of my glassware photography project). Beer is yellow and has a slight haze to it, forms a moderate white head that falls away leaving some lacing on the glass. Beer is moderately carbonated, large bubbles, does not prop the head up though, head falls back to become really thin and diffuse.

Beer has a good crisp pilsner smell. There is some mild sweetness in there as well as some grain-like flavors. This smells like a good lager.

Beer is thin and at first seems flavorless. There isn't much body to it at all. Its like drinking water, drinkability high. Second taste, I'll savor it more this time. Nothing up front, no bitterness at all, there is a mild aftertaste, some cereal. I missed the flavor again. I'm going to keep at this one and if something develops I'll let you know.

Not really, putting this one to bed.

Poured from a half liter bottle into a pint glass. Born on date of June 17th, 2009.

Appearance: Sizable off-white head. Clear yellow body. Real good head retention, spots of lacing.

Smell: Little malt sweetness, light grassy hops.

Taste: Biscuit. Lemony and grassy hops leave you with an appropriate level of bitterness.

Bottle sample thanks to Milos- A medium deep and clear gold with a fizzy bleached white cap. Nose of grassy hops, saaz, lemon, fruity pale malts. Tastes quite hoppy and grassy, a bit floral, lemon and biscuit follow. Very clean tasting with a pleasant bitterness that lingers. A good session beer. Thanks Milos!

Brown 500ml bottle, poured into a 'Veltins' branded stemmed 0.2 litre tulip shaped glass. My favourite lager/pilsner glass was filled three times by this beer and on each pour it looked and sounded lively.

Mid-range light golden pilsner colour, thin white which left a weak collar on each pour and very quickly too. The head let it down badly in my opinion.

Very little aroma to report on, hay, grass and not a lot of anything really, gets my regular 3 for a non-smelling lager/pilsner.

Tangy feel, but no body or flavours to rise it above plenty of other 'run of the mill' pilsners available anywhere and everywhere around the world.

Seemed better on tap in Prague. In my dining room it was just another beer for me to review and try as I did, no redeeming features came to its rescue, this is a bog standard pilsner!

From a 500 ml. bottle and poured into a pils glass. Shows a deep and clear straw with an inch of soapy white head. Retention and lacing are moderate to strong.

Clean and sweet lager nose with some light grainy malts and a bit of breadiness. Notable noble hop nose, clean and grassy. Fairly dry in flavor and with a light hop bitterness that balances well with a moderate malt backbone. Solid feel and drink, nice example of the style that doesn't overwhelm.

Pint .9 oz bottle with gold foil.

Pours a beautiful crystal clear gold with hints of amber and amazing active bubbles. Nice bright white 1 finger head. This is what a pilsener should look like, a beauty. This beer glistens.

Scent is standard pils, nice noble hops and a malt backbone. It has good harmony but could be better.

Taste is standard pils, very nice hops but not without the malt. Bread and spice.

Pilseners are simple but amazing beers, this one is average I think in this category.

a - nice gold colour with a thich white head after the pour, leaving little gobs of lace down my wine glass.

s - nice. light, bready malts with a whisper of sweetness. doesn't blow me away, but it's above average for the style. very very subtle floral hop on the nose.

t - light malts balanced by dry hoppy bitterness which lingers long into the aftertaste. As I get further into the bottle, the bitter hops start to get on my nerves. The hops throw it off balance. That having been said, if you're having this with a meal, it'll probably be alright.

m - crisp taste, yet somewhere between the low-mid ranges of medium body. impressive body for a czech lager, yet, it's not heavy. As the beer warms, it gains a bit of alcoholic heat, which is bizarre, but not entirely unwelcome.

d - the first few sips of this baby were truly impressive, but it mediocre'd out by the end. Nice but not challenging. No obvious flaws but not inspiring either.

Bright amber in color with a bubbly head that audibly fizzes as it dissipates. A steady line of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass adds appeal, too. The aroma is a tad fruity but mostly grainy; some grass as well. Nice taste-- lemons, grass and somewhat malty with a decent dose of hops at the back, but not really very bitter at all. Mild carbonation and a low ABV make this easy to drink. So does the price: about $2 a bottle! Worth gathering a few for the fridge.

On tap at Joe Squared the other afternoon.

The beer pours a solid gold color with OK head retention and minimal lacing. I don't get a lot on the nose, just some light honey and pepper. Flavors on the palate generally replicate the nose, with the beer having a light hoppy bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel was light to medium bodied, but there was nothing watery about the beer. Drinkability was pretty good, and this low alcohol pilsner/lager was exactly what I was in the mood for on a warm, muggy day in Baltimore.

Poured from a 1 pint 9 oz. brown bottle that I purchased at Heinen's in Greater Cleveland for something like $1.49. Poured into my Rare Vos gold rimmed V shaped glass.

A Nice look really for the style. Nice 3 to 4 inch head did not stay around like that for long, dissipating to a one cm head after about 60 seconds. 3.5

S A nice barley based lager with a smell of some strength and interest. Certainly the smell does not suggest that it is going to be a basic Czech lager but possibly could have some depth, interest, complexity. 4.0

T Like liquid barley, this beer is very much like the taste of chewing on roasted barley, as I have done on a number of brewery tours, most recently De Halve Mann in Brugge, Belgium. The ingredients listed on the label are: Water, Barley and Hops. The hops are minimal, in the background.

M Moderate at least with the big barley taste.

D Pretty good. I only bought the one bottle but I could see drinking a few of these.

Notes: Pleasant surprise, glad that I took the relative chance and had this one.

Situation: Add-in on a Shop-Rite Liquors trip--tough to pass up stand-alones that are under two bucks!
Glassware: 23 oz. pilsener...
Appearance: thin golden body, light effervescence, with a thin iced tea head that shifts in unison with its body--odd...
Aroma: subdued, light ping of Saaz; not as pungent as Czech or Polish varieties often are...some fruity notes too...
Palate: thin, watery body that projects a bit gassy, but overall quite a basic, predictable mouthfeel...
Taste: plain, pleasant compliment to food--like these nachos--but rather nondescript...not corny, but lacking the malts necessary to bring a fuller profile...
Overall: finishes as it starts, rather predicatbly but not awfully, while avoiding the butt some pilsners in green bottles will peddle...

Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass. This brew is a golden/straw yellow with a slight tinge of orange. Nice moderate to high carbonation producing a 1" head with decent retention. Frothy lacing displaying a patch work slippery pattern.

Grassy yeast/malt with a sweet light caramel aroma. The grassy hop is right up front followed by faint sweetness with a touch of yeastiness.

Tastes just like it smells, nice mild hop quality. Soft caramel malts dancing in an open field.

Mouthfeel is right on for the style in my opinion. Not thin but robust for how light it is. Nice drying finish.

Very drinkable.

500ml bottle with "born by" date of 26.08.2008

tasted in early may 2009

golden straw w honey amber tones. almost clear but for some possible chill haze. 1-finger head, bumpy and bubbly, fades to wispy layer and ring. splotchy lace here and there.

aroma: bready malts and gentle yet fragrant noble hops. hint of herbs and almost even citrusy. clean but for a hint of fusel or phenol in back, though never distracting.

taste: saaz is the centerpiece, with with controlled, crisp bitterness, countered by nice toasted breadiness. hint of pear or white grape. hops maintain crispness, with herbal/grassy note.

light to medium body, smooth overall w faint resins in finish. crisp, not too fizzy carbonation, giving further body.

Had it on tap on a hot day at a local Restaurant in Salem MA. At best I can say it was pretty average. It certainly wasn't the worst beer in the world I've ever had, but it wasn't that good either. It was a lot more Pale than I expected especially to use the term Imperial. It did not have a strong aroma, you could smell some hop notes to it. I was very disappointed with the overall flavor, again because they use the term Imperial. I found it very bland. Like I said it was a hot day and it was a cold beer so it was was refreshing enough for me to consider the mouth feel and drinkablility to be average.

A: Crystal clear pale straw in color. Nice fluffy head.

S: Smells of straw and corn with a little hop aroma as well. Has sort of a sweet smell as well.

T: Kinda thin to me. I was hoping for a little more. Taste is mostly malt and a little earthy graniness. A slight bitterness. The finish is quite dry and balanced. I would have liked a little more bitterness.

Not a bad tasting pilsener... it just wasn't very interesting.

S: Sweet, slightly spiced, with a little hops..

T: Very light... Not a lot of malt of or hops profile. But not bad.. Absolutely no off flavors.. clean and crisp.

M: About right for the style.

D: Not my cup of tea, but not too bad for a pils. PS. thanks mom for this surprise grab bag beer.

A - poured from a 500ml bottle into glass. The beer is amber in color and the head dissipates very quickly.

S - very metallic with light citrus notes

T - first sip is nice, tastes grainy, however becomes increasingly metallic thereafter

M - nice carbonation, smooth

D - okay

It's a decent beer. Has strong metallic element similar to what I remember a Heineken tasting like, but much better. Would recommend trying out.

500ml bottle poured into a pint glass. Born by 8/26/08.

A: Straw color. Not much of a head, but it does leave some lacing.

S: Lemons and hops.

T: Crisp clean bitterness, lemony tartness, and just enough malty sweetness. Goes down like a dream.

M: A bit heavier than I expected, but the carbonation balances it out.

D: A very pleasant surprise. Easily the best Czech pilsner I've ever had. In fact, I'd put it in the same league as the better German lagers.

Decent beer. Poured with a medium sized white head that soon disappears and a tiny bit of lace. Color is a bright, very clear, yellow gold. Aromatics of hops, malt, a little spice and beer. Flavor's the same more bittersweet. Fully carbonated. Clean and refreshing. Ok body. Finish is good with a typical Czech pale lager. Definitely a session beer. Got this bottle at Sam's in Chi.

This Pilsner pours with massive amounts of carbonation, which in turn produces a massive amount of head build up, and sticks around quite a while. The body of this brew is more copper than the golden color of the German Pilsners I'm more used to. Of course the clarity of this brew is pure, as a Pilsner should be.

The aroma is actually quite full. There are both lemony and metallic hops present, and in good concentration.

The taste is pretty husky and herbal. In the middle there is a lemony presence, but all together it is pretty herbal.

This has a palate wetting quality and goes down smoothly. It's on par for the style, but I like my German Pils a bit better.

500 ml bottle from Riga

Pours gold with large and foamy head, dense patchy lacing, strings of small carbonation bubbles rising, looks perfect. Aroma is straw, light sweet grainy malt and a bit of hops.

Taste is medium malty, some veggies, hints of Saaz hops that become more pronounced at the medium dry finish, weak citrus malt aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light with average carbonation.

Overall, a good and very refreshing Czech Pilsener. I enjoyed this beer a lot and certainly will drink more of it.

Clear golden colour, medium white head, some lacing, pretty average. Aroma is malty with some hops in the nose, grass, straw. Flavour is malty, but more hoppy than the aroma indicated, grass and straw and also some funky metallic notes that spoils it a bit. Mouthfeel is crisp with medium bubbles and the liquid isn't particularly sticky. All in all a decent pils that for its price is good value for money.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, beer is a perfectly clear, golden-yellow color with a one-finger, white soapy head. Looks just like a Pils should. The smell is a mix of gentle Saaz and slightly sweet, grainy malt. The flavor is similar with the sweet, grainy malt flavor coming to the forefront with a slightly bitter Saaz backbone. The mouthfeel is light in body with adequate yet not agressive carbonation. The finish is smooth but very slightly bitter. Overall a drinkable beer, better than your average BMC but nothing special.
