Appearance: Fantastic looking head the retention is quite remarkable even after the hazed copper coloured brew is sipped upon.

Smell: Rustic aroma of nutty yeast, husky grain and a mild fruitiness of nectarines and mandarin oranges.

Taste: Juicy middle with a faint buttery flavour, light tropical fruit within the esters. Good malt foundation with a soft powdery chalky yeast in tow, nutty bready finish with some more fruity esters in the end.

Mouthfeel: Light to moderate bodied and a bit slick on the tongue, nice smoothness as well.

Drinkability & Notes: Layered complexities are dreamy, a sensual tripel. Easy to quaff quickly so be careful.

A - Amber colored with an enormous white head.

S - Fresh and fruity with malts - very inviting.

T - Fresh and full of taste, in the middle pallet there is a metal like taste observable.

M - Light bitter finish and light sticky in your mouth mixed with a medium carbonation.

O - A good triple but not something special. De almost metal like taste in the middle is a killer for this beer.

Fantastic Tripel that stands out on its own due to the distinct nuttiness and buttery mouthfeel. It also looks and smells as good as it tastes! Maybe a tad too sweet for some, but I think this just adds to its charm. Very easy to down (silky smooth on the palate) and one that I have gotten into trouble with on many occasions. A great session tripel and easily of my favorites.

I had this beer (or several actually) sitting on a terrace in Vlaardingen, NL during a recent business trip. At the time, I had a Delerium Tremens before the "Mother Superior" (English translation) and I have to say the taste and aroma were much better than the Tremens. Although the serving glass was a frosted glass, which was slightly dissappointing to me because you could not see the full colour potential. The taste was very fruity, typical of the Belgian Tripels. I looked for some in a local beer shop to no avail, as it quickly rose to the top of my WANT list. A definate top scorer for sure!

'Mother Superior'. Tripel, 33 cl. bottle, bb june 2010.
Recommended by the guy at a local liquor store.

Colour orange-brown, with cream coloured head, that hold up decently. Ok carbonation.

Smell is malty, floral and citric hops, belgian yeast.
Taste is pretty spicy indeed. Pepper and clove and coriander. Malts and citrus in the background.
Not sweet, but reasonably dry in the mouthfeel. The alcohol is well masked, and the brew is still ok refreshing overall.
A tripel in the Belgian tradition, but on the agressive side of the spectrum. It's still well balanced and overall a good drink in a bar.

Poured a hazy, orange/copper coloured brew with an incredibly nice head that produces some beautiful lacing. Looks absolutely marvellous.
Smell is yeasty, with some nuts and spices. It reminded me of Duvel
Taste: well it's certainly different. Incredibly yeasty, with lots wood-like aroma's going around. Tardness and bitterness battle it out.
The mouthfeel is good, not too fizzy, medium body. I don't think I'd like to have more than one on one evening though. It's original for sure, but not really my thing. Still an intresting beer.

Drank from my Duvel Tulip.

A - Pours hazey honey colour with a tight, white fluffy head that stays the course.

S - A bit of grain and orange citrus.

T - Plenty of passionfruit notes, some malty notes follow with some yeasty notes to finish.

M - Medium to light body with good carbonation.

D - An easy dring beer for it's abv. Not a bad triple.

A slightly hazy copper, golden beer with a thick, creamy head.

Smell of bananas and other exotic fruit, typical Belgian yeast products and some candi sugar smells. A medium malt base which supports the fruitiness and sugar.

Taste is full of exotic fruits like banana and tangerine, also some light solvent taste, all derived by the yeast. Basically the taste is the same as the smell. The malt is light and has some pils and bisuity taste. Hops are very low. Drinkability is OK. A decent tripel.

Strange label, strange name. What to think about the head of a female monastry to be drunk... Well a nice head for a start and a far from clear but nice golden colour.
Sweetish malty and alcoholic smell with a little koreander. Strong alcoholic but sweetish taste with a dry finish of some hops. Not to bad but to sweet in my opinion.

This tasty poured a deep golden color, mostly clear with low carbonation. Post pour the head was nice and taut, around a half inch or so. This remained intact for most of the drinking.

The bouquet was of malt and yeast with back hints of citrus and light summer fruits. This carried over to the taste which had just a very slight citrus linering.

This beer is easy to drink as the taste and mouthfeel are both very nice. It is a filling beer though, so you won't want to enjoy more than two in one sitting.

All and all, a fine sippin' Belgian that is almost as fine a naked gal on a hot summer's day!

I first had this beer 4 years ago at Den Dyver restaurant in Brugge, and until it became available at belgianshop I had not seen it since. Small bottle, served 50f....pours with 25% head. Nose is very sweet, slightly spicy. Unusual odors for a belgian, reminds me of musselbier i had tried a few months ago.

Taste is a bit different than the nose, strong piercing hop-note, with a semi-sweet malty background. rather tangy. I actually like the nose better than the taste here.

Worth trying for its unusual profile if nothing else, I would like to source another one of these and try again.

(Poured into tulip glass)

Appearance - Deep orange/honey color. Pours a thick creamy white head with excellent retention and nice lacing. Nice carbonation.

Smell - light, citrusy smell, light malts

Taste - caramel, not too sweet, bready with a slight hoppish metallic aftertaste.

Mouthfull - round but not too thick, alcohol well disguised

Drinkability - quite enjoyble and drinkable, but at 8% you still could not have more than a couple without being seriously slowed down...

Sorry but this comment is in french :

Appearance : Cuivrée-orangée, limpide, mousse abondante et assez tenace.
Smell : Arôme de malt doux et profond, nez riche aux subtilités de liqueur.
Taste : Bière ronde, fruitée, riche, moelleuse et agréablement caramélisée
Mouthfeel : bien en bouche, peu amère et à peine piquante. Arrière goût harmonieux.
Drinkability : Bonne bière douce bien fruitée.
