bottle poured into two Sam Adams perfect pints.
1 inch of head that dissipates leaving a slight bit of head.
dark mahogany color is only revealed using a very bright flashlight.
good carbonation.
nose is chocolate, booze and bread.
taste is boozy but the goodness shines through.
I like some other big stouts more but this is one to try.
mouthfeel finishes dry and bready. seems a little light for such a strong beverage.
some stickiness on the lips.

D - Good carbonation with a heavy body.

O - Sweet, but nice balance. Rye is there. Good stuff.

Bottle poured into a snifter. 2013 vintage - bottle run #1

A - black with dark brown edges.

S- whiskey and chocolate very faint vanilla

T - whiskey goodness, lots of chocolate and some rye spice but not overpowering. Blends pretty good.

M - a little thin compared to the other eclipse variants.

O - damn good BA stout. I liked the Evan Williams a bit better, but the rye barrel is definitely very well down. I look forward to the Elijah Craig and four roses.

A-Clear amber brown when pouring, black in the glass and tries to leave some lacing.

S-Good deal of rye spice, whiskey and chocolate.

T-Lots of rye, good deal of spice, chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. The whiskey is present as well.

M-Medium bodied, not much carbonation tad creamy.

O-Easily better than the High West Bourbon, possibly worth a repeat purchase.

Appearance: Pours with a rich, thick body. Tan head of a quarter finger which quickly settled in around the edges of the glass. Above average active carbonation in the glass while drinking.

Smell: Vanilla, milk chocolate, and big barrel character. The bourbon accents come off with an edge of heat which adds a menacing tone to the aroma. There are some subtle rye spices on the undertones of this brew. Waves and waves of vanilla and bourbon keep coming at the drinker throughout and dominate.

Taste: Complex front of grains, spices, vanilla, dairy, whiskey, and chocolate. The body evens out with a creamier, smoother malt and you get a touch of the honey. Continuing waves of vanilla and barrel character wash over the palate. The finish dries out a bit and the drinker gets the most of the rye character here.

Mouthfeel: Not as rich and heavy as other elite imperial stouts but this brew makes up for with an incredibly easy drinking mouthfeel which really lets all the flavors and accents stand out.

Overall: My second eclipse brew and I have loved both of them so far. I personally preferred the bourbon barrel Elijah Craig but this is certainly the best rye barrel aged brew I've ever had. Balanced spices and rye with plenty of traditional delicious whiskey tones. Won't hesitate to try any others from the Eclipse line.
