On tap at City Tavern in Culver City, CA.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cookie dough, and cocoa. Taste is much the same with a char flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a roast forward set of flavors.

I had this on-tap at Capone's during Philly beer week. Served in a sample glass.

Appearance: The beer pours a dark brown color with some light coming through at the edges. There is a layer of off white head that fades to a ring and leaves some lace on the glass.

Smell: Light roast with a touch of sweetness that reminds me of brown sugar. I'm also getting some bitter chocolate.

Taste: Dark chocolate and roast flavors are there, but they're smooth. I'm getting some dark fruit and brown sugar as well. This is a very smooth and easy drinking porter.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with smooth, tingly carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: This porter is complex and easy to drink. I thought it was very good.

on tap at monks

Pours a dark blacked out color with a thick froth of softly tanned head resting on top. Evens out, leaving some patchy lacing and a collar of film on the brew.

Pleasant mix of roasted coffee beans, semi-sweet chocolate and dark malts in the nose. Each sniff becomes more intoxicating, as the layers of malts start to reveal themselves.

Full and robust right up front with nice roasted malt flavors. Layers of caramel and bread crust are coupled with a dark roasted coffee flavor which is right on point for coffee drinkers like myself. A touch of sweetness from chocolate and malts, finished off with some dry oats and coffee on the back end.

Fuller medium body, nice carbonation, creamy and slick on the tongue. I don't often find myself raving about porters, but this one stood out amongst an already impressive lineup of 5050 beers.

Look: Almost black with a red ring a around the top and bottom. Almost a 1/4 inch tan head with no retention

Smell: Coffee and chocolate and a nice roasted malt smell

Taste: Very nice coffee notes not too much but just the right amount. Hints of chocolate and caramel

Mouthfeel: Buttery and silky. Medium body and medium carbonation levels

Overall: Very nice porter. Very nice and enjoyable flavors. This is my first beer by fifty/fifty brewing company and I am quite impressed. I also have a growler of the totality stout and I cant wait to crack it open

A: Black with a creamy mocha head.

S: Nose is dark roast coffee-forward with typical dark chocolate and roasted malt you expect from a porter.

T: Bittersweet chocolate, roasted malt and coffee, not very complex, but pretty tasty.

M: Full bodied and not smooth.

O: Pretty good, fairly characteristic of a porter, though perhaps not as bitter or robust as you'd expect. Recommended.

On tap at the brewery. Black with a fine tan head. Lots of chocolate and hops in the aroma. Sweet and roasty with caramel and some cocoa, balanced nicely with pretty ample piney hops. Medium bodied, with a creamy texture. A tasty roasty and hoppy porter, not unlike a hoppy foreign stout. Pretty bitter and hoppy, but the sweetness and lack of roasted astringency save the flavors from clashing.

On tap, in a shaker pint glass, at the brewery.

Appearance - Dark. Thick, tan head. Handsome.

Smell - Semi sweet chocolate. Burnt toast.

Taste - Semi sweet chocolate. Root beer. Burnt toast. Peppercorn.

Mouth - Acidic.

Overall - A rather aggressive interpretation of a Porter. Not bad but not smooth (like the famous English Porters that we all know and love). I would have guessed this beer was a Stout.

Appearance: Darker than black coffee, completely opaque and thick. Looks more like a stout than a porter to the naked eye.

Smell: Roasty notes, nothing out of the ordinary.

Taste: Zowy! A pretty much equal mix of chocolate, coffee and caramel. Blends together superbly.

Mouthfeel: One of the nicest drinking beers I've had in some time. Smoother than silk.

My first beer from 50/50 and an impressive one at that.
