On tap at the brewery. Light amber with a lasting creamy head. Aroma similar to the pale, but supercharged; very aromatic and piney hops. The flavor is big on pine and spruce, with a little grapefruit and just enough pale malt sweetness to keep it together. This is a pretty nice IPA, and I can see how it is so popular as my server said--apparently they don't do growler fills anymore because they were always running out of it. My only hang-up is the pine dominated hop profile; I would much prefer a more floral or tropical flavor. (534 characters)

hazy straw color, nice lace, oily on the palate, stinky nose, medium-length finish. amarillo, centennial, and summit hops used in this brew. citrus/grapefruit/pine hop character, followed up with malt to balance the mouthfeel. wasn't in love with this beer, it was a little unbalanced. (285 characters)

Straw colored pour with a nice bright white head and good lacing. Malty with some whiffs of orange and light grapefruit. Bitter taste with more grapefruit. Malty backbone tones the beer down on the swallow. Taste lingers in the mouth. Thin mouthfeel. Not totally digging this as I would hesitate to take down another beer. Another so-so beer in my opinion from FiftyFifty. (372 characters)

Growler from FiftyFifty Brewpub. Pours clear red with slight amber hue. Two finger off-white head. Aroma of pine with some bubble gum. Flavor is slightly spicey with dry, bitter finish. Light in the mouth with moderate carbonation. An easy drinking IPA. (253 characters)

On tap at Blue Palms.
Color of normal IPA? Check. Goo head that lasts? Check. Lace? Yeah, pretty good.
Whoa, smells like hops. This smells fresh and delicious. A little malt sweetness of the end.
Big aggressive bitterness, citrusy hops, pineapple. The malt almost reminds me of a DIPA.
Thick, creamy mouth gives it a juicy quality that enhances the sweetness.
A good IPA that I'd have again. Not neccessarily what I crave when I want one, but a tasty beverage nonetheless. (473 characters)

On tap at Blue Palms Brewhouse in Los Angeles, CA as part of the FiftyFifty Eclipse Release Party.

Pours a clear honey orange with a 1/2 inch foamy beige head that settles to a film on the top of the beer. A lattice of lace forms on the glass on the drink down. Smell is of tropical fruit, citrus fruit, and lots of citrus zest. Taste is of tropical fruit, citrus fruit/zest, and slight malt. There is an assertive bitterness that lingers on the palate after each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good IPA but the bitterness is a bit too much in my opinion. (633 characters)

With all the hype of the Eclipses, it was cool to see one of 50/50's regular beers,

A: Pous a translucent burnt orange with frothy white cap of foam, good lace.

S: Grapefruit dominant, some malt character though the northwest nose is the major factor. Light pine.

T: Grapefruit and cedar wood, a little too citrusy for me initially, but as it goes along other flavours develop. The woodsy hop flavours are fantastic, cantaloupe rind comes out which is quite appealing, it gets fruitier as it warms up. Solid CA IPA.

M: Medium-bodied, sticky and resiny, good long hoppy aftertaste.

D: In the end, just a well made IPA, nothing more to say. An enjoyable beer, nothing mind-blowing, but any IPA fan would enjoy a pint of this methinks. (738 characters)

Murky unfiltered appearance, golden-amber in color. Not much head or lacing. Soft citrusy aroma, floral and lightly sweet and grainy. Tastes great, juicy and floral, dry and crackery malt. Little grapefruit and orange. Pretty soft mouthfeel, it finishes mildly bitter and quite smooth. Really nice, another great FiftyFifty beer. (329 characters)

On tap at FiftyFifty.

Body is hazy, opaque medium brown. Was poured in a pint glass with a half inch foamy head, with decent retention and lacing.

Smells of bready malt and citrus hops.

The taste is of thick bready malt, with a huge bitter citrus/pine hop character.

Body is medium, with a moderate level of carbonation.

Overall, rather too bitter for my pleasure. It was good enough with pizza, though I wouldn't drink much on its own. (446 characters)

Poured from a growler picked up at the brewery into a New Belgium globe glass. Comes in at 7%.

A-Pours a clear amber with a 2 finger tan head that has some great retention. Has a decent amount of bubbles rising from the bottom and a little lace.

S-Nice hoppy nose. Lots and lots of pine. Also smells a little sugary. Not very citrusy.

T-Lot of pine and grapefruit bitterness upfront. Some caramel malt comes in the middle before more grapefruit bitterness on the finish. There are also some earthy hop flavors as it warms.

M-Medium bodied and quite smooth from the long lasting head.

D-An easy drinking IPA. The abv is well hidden.

This was my first beer from FiftyFifty and I thought it was very good. A good beer for those that like a little more "balance". (766 characters)

This poured the color of a malty amber with some light foaming. I found an aroma of toffee and pineapples to dominate. It’s intensely bitter with a lingering sweetness. The malt balances out the candied pineapple, caramel and toffee notes from the hops. (255 characters)

Got the growler from the brewery in Truckee, CA during my weekend of skiing. Pours a cloudy orange, which is good because it reminds me of fresh-squeezed apple cider. Head is foamy and dissolves soon to a bed of lace. This is a classic IPA: hoppy in aroma and in taste! You can taste the cascades here, and it's got a wonderful fresh floral taste. Little if any malt balance. All about hops, baby. (397 characters)

My first ever 50/50 brew, I think it may have been at the Truckee beer festival years ago. Not important.

Glowing orange pour, and smack of dry hopping, I knew this was the closest thing to high quality ipa anywhere near Northern Nevada (yeah, there's some good ones in Reno, but not in this upper echelon). Maybe its just bc its from truckee, but its not a stretch to smell some good buds in this one.

Taste, so light on its feet, yet so much hop mouthfeel and bitterness. I would guess simcoe is all up in this brother, along with some cascade hops for the classic feel. Really, all the stuff you loved from ipas decade+ ago, and the new wave of hop varieties you get in the newbies, that instead of the usual citrus, you now have lots of pine (and citrus grapefruit).

I think I've come to like the ryepa a little bit more, but given all the slide variation ipas, the rye and the 5 or so stout varieties, this is my favorite "local" brewery (unless Sierra Nevada counts, but its like 200 miles from me. . .) (1,014 characters)

On-tap at Craft Day Afternoon. Stange-like taster.

A - A finger of off-white foam that has a good retention and leaves glass-coating less tops a murky dark orange body.

S - There's a light chive note that I tend to get from Citra hops. However, it's largely overshadowed by grapefruit and orange zest. There's minimal malt character in the periphery - very West Coast aesthetic here.

T - Tastes nearly identical to the aroma. Heavy grapefruit and zesty notes, with light pine and a hint of green onion. A bit of crackery malt in the background. Not quite as defined - doesn't have the same "pop" as the aroma.

M - Pleasant zesty carbonation, medium body, resinous dry finish.

D - A very good San Diego Pale Ale. Not sure why there are such negative reviews. I'd have this one regularly if it were on tap around here (and hopefully it will be). (848 characters)

Picked up at the brewery two nights ago, growler to a pint glass

Pours a very hazy gold with almost no transparency. Vibrant amber in the middle thinning out to a more tangerine on the sides and bottom of the glass. Little carbonation, alright lacing- not bad but incredibly thick on the eyes

Aroma of grapefruit, lemon, lots of pine, and a sweet but balanced malt. Not super pungent, but come together well, even if you have to stick your nose down pretty far in it.

Taste of strong upfront hops, grapefruit, pine, and a wide range of citrus. A sweet malt backs it all up which, like the nose, is able to keep a fine balance. All comes together well, solid tribute to the style

Mouth is consistent with the rest of the beer, medium body with a high bitterness. Nice sticky and dry finish, alcohol very well concealed. Super drinkable, killing a 64oz growler of this for memorial day will be no problem

Overall this stuff is really good, strong hop profile balanced well with a subtle yet rigid malt backbone. Good to know fiftyfifty is good for more than just Eclipse, can't wait to drive back to drink there (1,115 characters)

We visited this brewery after a day of playing in the snow. It's a very nice place --- it keeps a low profile in quiet and beautiful Truckee, CA. As a BIG fan of IPAs I had to give their IPA a shot. What a wonderful treat! Beautiful color leads to a fabulous citrus and hoppy smell that is heavenly. The taste is the complete package --- full body, smooth and a nice mixture of hops/malt creating the right bitterness. I don't get out this way too often, but I'm looking forward to my next visit to this fairly undiscovered beer haven. (535 characters)
