2011 Vintage

Pours dark black with a one finger tan head, which fades quickly to a small disk of foam. The aroma has bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, toffee, dark fruit, toffee, and coconut.Smells incredible.

Tastes incredible. Sweet, without being cloying. There's bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, oak, roasted malt, toffee, dark fruit, toffee, caramel, and coconut. Even though I can taste and smell the bourbon with ease, this is not a hot or boozy beer. Very well made.

Medium bodied with low carbonation. Silky, creamy, and very easy to drink. Well worth trying if you get the chance.

2012 into a snifter, celebrating tonights lunar eclipse

Pours pitch black with a finger of brown foam. No transparency when held to the light, great lacing and retention. No visible carbonation, all around great looking beer

Smells of strong oak, bourbon, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar and molasses, figs, currant, and alcohol. Everything blends together wonderfully, this is a lot of fun to smell

Taste mixes and matches with the smell. Upfront lots of oak and bourbon, but also strong fruit notes- lots of currant and fig. Chocolate and coffee malts follow soon after, finishing with notes of vanilla and molasses. Finally a bit of booze on the finish

Feel is thick and heavy, alcohol drinks pretty warm

Overall good, still very strong with the booze and fruits which I figured would have been long gone sixteen months later

Bottle run no.1, 2013.

A - Bonfire-log black. Thin, fleeting ochre head.

S - Vanilla ice cream. Sweet, sweet bourbon. Caramel. Soft bourbon notes reward inquisitive sniffing. Coconut candy.

T - Reprising the nose, with a chorus of sweet and mellow bourbon. Velvety cocoa powder. No smoke, no char, no peat. Lightly toasted malt, but not particuarly toasty otherwise. I would have liked a little more of these classic stout flavours to go along with those already offered, but its delicious nonetheless.

M - This beer is a slender dancer albeit with great balance.

O - What this beer lacks in depth and layering it makes up for due to its remarkable poise. It hides its abv. wonderfully; I have never had such a strong beer with so little heat. Put simply this is a beer with sweet, mellow-bourbon flavours in which all the elements are beautifully harmonized. Perhaps the first beer I've head where the overall score is higher than any of the constituent scores. Very, very good.
