Chilled 22oz bottle into a snifter. My first sample out of my big box of 2011 futures; time to see if they live up to the hype.
A - Pours a dark brown, not black, with auburn highlights and a couple of fingers of mocha-colored head. Decent retention given the abv, and some wispy lacing on the glass.
S - The aroma is pretty straightforward chocolate cake, with just a hint of bourbon and bits of spicy hoppiness. I'm surprised at how well the barrel is integrated in this bottle -- you know it's there, but it doesn't smack you in the face the way something like a BCS does.
T - Lots of fudgy chocolate, vanilla, almond, and toffee. Like in the nose, the barrel is at once both very subtle and very obvious, bringing lots of toasted coconut to the party. I was a little surprised at first at the apparent sweetness, then it turned to something more dry and cocoa-like. I'm loving this beer, and I can't stop sipping on it. At this rate the entire bomber will be gone in a few minutes.
M - Maybe a bit thinner than I would've thought, but all in all it's nice enough. It lacks the creaminess that a Zhukov has, which would really make this beer something special. Finish is medium-dry.
O - Yeah, I'm in love with this one. It's not perfect, but definitely up there with some of my favorites. I can't wait to work my way through the other variations.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of bourbon and rich black chocolates is harsher than ion the 12 year version. Taste is also dominated rich black chocolate notes with some medium rye whiskey notes with rounds off the rough or bitter edge of the base stout but some of the harsher notes don’t really comes out clean. Body is full with nice oily and creamy texture with good carbonation with alcohol not that apparent in this version. I preferred the 12 year old Elijah version to this one base on overall taste being not as smooth as the other version.
