Even though it was a barleywine originally, this poured out just barely a shade lighter than the Eclipse stouts. Small thin dark beige head to it. Aroma was very nice, the aroma of the EC12 was nicer here than I though w/ the stout, it allows the bourbon to come through, as well as the wood itself in a nicer way.

Taste, bart has always been sublime, but the EC barrel upped its game even more. Alcohol so far from hot. Stays away from American barleywine comparisons, as the hop touches are minimal at best. Toffee and caramel lean forward, chocolate and dry cocao powder linger in the distance. Once I had tasted all the varieties, this and the grand cru were the two I continually went back for over and over. (715 characters)

Eclipse release party 2011. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a dark raisin brown color with a thin dark brown film of a head.
S: The nose is boozy, buttery and creamy smelling with notes of milk chocolate, spicy barrel notes and a touch of sweet caramel.
T: Follows the nose. Buttery and creamy flavors. The chocolate comes through nicely, and I get a touch of marshmallow and tobacco in the aftertaste. Good sweet barelywine flavors integrated nicely with the warm bourbon barrel flavors. The Elijah Craig barrel is easily picked, buttery, and adds tons of flavor but very little heat to the brew.
M: A tad thinner than I was expecting but still full bodied with a crazy smooth mouthfeel. Great carbonation.
O: One of the highlights of the release. I’ve never had the original, but I can say that this treatment is a winner. (828 characters)

Bottle pour courtesy of leschkie at Woodshop 7 held at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

Pours a clear brown with a foamy beige head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. No lacing on this one. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, caramel, wood, vanilla, and bourbon. Taste is much the same and there is a slight amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is quite tasty and lives up to it’s name. (527 characters)
