22oz bottle into tulip. 2013 release.

A: Pours near black with a larger than I remember light brown head. Head is dense, thick, and airy, and slowly faded into a bubbly soft film. A complex network of thick lace was left down the glass.
S: Rich notes of creamy vanilla, Maker's Mark, chocolate, and caramel. Sweet, slightly boozy, with a hint of roasted coconut.
T: Roasted, sweet, and decadent flavors. Vanilla and chocolate come through nicely alongside notes of caramel, mild char, toasted marshmallows, and whiskey. The finish is full of sweet malts and roasted coconut, and the aftertaste is creamy, chocolatey, woody, and lingering.
M: Full thick body, smooth, creamy, and rich mouthfeel with low and soft carbonation. No trace of alcohol warmth, no astringency. One of the creamier and smoother variants out there.
O: It's not the most buttery of bourbons, but this is a very rich and smooth variety of Eclipse. Definitely delicious.

22oz, dull silver waxed bottle, run #2 of 2013, and part of a six-pack sort of deal that arrived in Alberta a few weeks ago - not that it's always being sold that way.

This beer pours an expectedly solid black wall, yet with perhaps a bit of muddy cola highlights in the nether regions, and three fingers of puffy, rocky, and truly creamy and foamy mocha head, which leaves some nicely askew cobwebbed lace around the glass as it slowly and evenly subsides.

It smells rather pungently of cocoa powder, the kind that's just been mixed into a healthy (re: double or triple) shot of middle-shelf Bourbon - the grittiness pervades, but I can sort of isolate a bit of vanilla, caramel, and astringent wood fiber, if I really must. The taste is much more rounded in its chocolate essence, the liqueur-like effects of the barrel more alcoholic than Yankee whiskey-borne here, though hints of spicy rye and cooking vanilla bleed through as this deal slowly warms (it's not exactly balmy outside right now, and my house hasn't quite properly heated up yet today, either). A slight, toasted dark fruitiness also arises, to a welcoming pat on the back, alongside some weak woody notes, day-old coffee, and a struggling, seemingly out of its element reduced brown sugar sweetness.

The bubbles are obviously quite effusive up front, but settle quite nicely into a tight holding pattern, the body a hefty medium-full weight, and generally smooth, the tics of char, java, and burgeoning booze indulging, all. It finishes well off-dry, the woody whisky, caramel chocolate malt, and dark sugary fruit providing the outline for today's task(s).

One of the more approachable versions of this shotgun blast of new 50/50 Eclipse barrel-aged, big-ass stouts. If I've enjoyed any Bourbons over the past few years, the red-wax sealed (wait, what? Sigh, no consistency) Makers Mark has been prominent among them. Nice to see that tasty, if somewhat simple, corn whiskey goodness so agreeably imprinted here.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black with a nice khaki head. Medium collar. Wispy surface.

Smell - Sharper, more corn-like bourbon. Bright liquor. Oak. Dark chocolate.

Taste - Same corn-centered bourbon. Oaky. Dark chocolate.

Mouthfeel - High carbonation. Medium body.

Overall - Eh. The bourbon character isn't very nice in this one.

2013 Vintage
11.9% ABV

Appearance: Very dark brown bordering on black with a modest dark beige head that slowly faded.

Smell: Mild Bourbon, brown sugar , and mild coffee/roasted malt aromas. Nice smelling but not overly complex.

Taste: Bourbon, roast malts, vanilla, brown sugar and tannic oak notes. The finish is fairly dry featuring Bourbon notes, prominent roast malt notes and mild hop notes. This variant isn't as sweet as some of the other Eclipses I've had . Very restrained alcohol presence.

Mouth-feel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation.

Overall: Good beer. Interestingly, this version probably the least sweet of all the variants I've had. It's very much a prototypical stout with a prominent roasted malt profile.

Thanks to Kreko7 for sending me this one in a trade.

This was from their latest release, I feel like if I had left this in the cellar for some time I would be giving this a perfect rating. Maker's Mark is my personal favorite whiskey so I'm probably a little biased. Nose on the beer is incredible, I just want to live in it, and then this beer goes down so easy for being as heavy as it is. I took the first sip and said "this might be the best beer I've ever had." It's hard to convince yourself to spend $30 on a bottle of beer, but this one was definitely worth it to me. Cheers

A-Black in the glass, one finger brown head not much carbonatin.

S-Bourbon heavy, good deal of oak, vanilla and chocolate. Tad bit of roasted malt.

T-Semi sweet, good deal of bourbon. Nice oak character. Vanilla is present with sweet chocolate as well.

M-Medium to heavy in body slight carbonation.

O-Another solid Eclipse beers, one that is worth a purchase.

Thanks to fatbeats18 for sending this one over in a trade!

A: Opaque black with browning on the edges and 1 fingers width of tan colored head. Head dissipates down at a moderate rate and leaves only trace patches of lacing.

S: A big sweetness, lots of dark fruit, a honey/sugary sweetness, bourbon notes with oak and a bourbony booze. Awesome.

T: Lucious sweetness with tons of chocolate/cocoa, accompanied by a big ethanol booziness. I also get dark fruits, bourbon vanilla and oak, sugar/honey sweetness, and some roasted malt.

M/D: Full bodied, a bit chewy, appropriately low carbonation and very smooth. ABV is noticeable, but in a positive way, and drinkability is good.

O: I love these 50/50 Eclipse variants. Not as good as either EC variant, but a great beer.
