Pours the usual appearance for an Eclipse beer, black body, brown head around the 1/3" range (slightly smaller than normal on this one). Aroma is definitely rum, wowza no confusing that one, the sugary tropical feel all up in ya like the bullet boys. I can dig it.

Taste, yeah, this is one of the most unique Eclipse beers yet. That spiced rum vibe is strong with this one. Notes of honey, molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, the Caribbean. Plenty of stickiness to the mouth feel. More of the roasted malt coffee note comes through in these compared to whiskey barrel Eclipse. I went into it with lower expectations, but its breezing right by them, I'm enjoying this on tap. Body seemed slightly thinner than most.

Bottle from Kump. Thanks man! Served in a Cantillon tulip.

A - A hard pour rouses a late-rising dark tan foam that settles to a wispy, partial cap and collar, leaving behind minimal lace. Near-black/very dark brown body.

S - Spiced rum, oak, and more of the Totality base peeking through than your typical Eclipse. Lots of molasses, dark fruits, anise, chocolate, and earthy, roasted grains.

T - Taste is actually more rum-heavy, with the associated spices making an appearance. Molasses, chocolate, roast, notes of bitter anise and charred oak in the finish. Actually seems a bit less sweet than your typical Eclipse.

M - Full body, chewy, with lingering stickiness on the palate. Pretty mellow for 11.9%. Lower carbonation that's style-appropriate. Some oak, but pretty mild.

D - This is pretty excellent. One of the best Eclipses I've had in recent memory. I put down most of the bottle on my own with ease (Bryna had a glass). Again, not *quite* as good as Skeleton Key as far as rum barrel-aged beers go, but well-craft and delicious all the same.

A-Black in the glass, one finger brown head that leaves some lacing.

S-Rum barrel gives great sweetness (brown sugar) with oak but mild heat. Chocolate, coffee and roasted.

T-The rum barrel is perfect. Imparts sweetness, some heat, and oak but is not overpowering. Chocolate and vanilla, nice coffee and roasted malt.

M-Heavier with nice carbonation.

O-One of the best rum barrel aged beers I've had. Showed me how great rum barrels can be.

22oz bottle into snifter. 2013 vintage.

A: Pours a very deep dark brown, near black, with two fingers of dense dark tan/brown head that slowly faded into a thick and bubbly film. Wispy streaks of lace were left down the glass.
S: Sweet and boozy rum dominates the nose, with scents of caramel, raisins, toast and thick molasses coming through as well. As expected because of the rum, this is one of the sweeter smelling of the variants.
T: Follows the nose with huge and potent flavors of rum barrel, molasses, and caramel. Stout flavors of chocolate brownie, peat, and dark roasted grains follows after the barrel. The finish is full of toasted coconut and slight vanilla, and the aftertaste has lingering boozy flavors of rum, mild sharpie, and raisin.
M: Very soft and gentle fluffy carbonation. The body is thick and fairly heavy with a full, slick, and sticky mouthfeel.
O: The barrel treatment really comes through strongly in this variant; I’d say more-so than others. As with most things rum, this beer is exceptionally sweet and could probably do well with a few more months of aging. This was highly enjoyable though, and definitely far from the worst barrel treatment on an eclipse.

Thanks to Frank for the share!

Poured out looking pretty much like any Eclipse, or basically most big stouts, for that matter: black hole with some dark brown around the edges, a small mocha head that held at a ringlet, and left some splotches of lacing on the glass. Aroma was big with booze--though this was a blind tasting, it was pretty obvious from the start that there was a barrel involved here--oak, raw cocoa, notes of indistinct dark fruit. Taste was similar, rummy booze coming out right away and lingering through the session, notes of unsweetened chocolate, dark fruits, coffee bitterness, wet oak. Strangely, this version seemed to have a much thinner body than other Eclipses, barely coming in heavier than medium, with a slick and still pretty hot mouthfeel. Good overall, but not the best of the series by far.
