I am a big fan of this style - bourbon barrel aged beers - and this is easily the best one I have tried. They absolutely nailed the flavors here - vanillas, oaks, cherries... The mouthfeel was also spot on - unlike others I have tried, this one is not too thick and syrupy. On the other hand, it also isn't lighter than you would expect from this style.

Appearance: Dark brown body with no head at all. No head obviously means no retention and no lacing.

Aroma: It has a pleasant bourbon and oak aroma but it is very very faint.

Taste: It has a soft sweet edge to the beer. The flavor is comprised of very faint bourbon and oak...it is extremely soft and mellow. What is notable is that at 10% I taste no alcohol at all. There is a candy-like sweetness to the beer.

Mouthfeel: The beer has zero carbonation...I mean completely still. This greatly degrades the overall mouthfeel but the beer is still very smooth and extremely easy to drink.

Overall: I really wasn't impressed by the beer. It is supposed to be this special anniversary beer and it was pretty much a letdown. As a BSDA it really didn't give any strong Belgian character so that was disappointing, and it seems like the only real character you get is this generic muted bourbon barrel flavor. I don't recommend it. The yearly offerings by AleWerks are head and shoulders above this beer.
