Purchased on vacation at Wine Cheese & More at Chincoteague Island, VA

Very dark brown in color with a scant 2 finger tannish head that recedes to a ring around the glass.

Wow! First impression of the aroma is of hot chocolate with a hint of vanilla. Later on it's more like coffee and toasted malt.

Fairly tart at first taste, but it settled down to mainly rich black coffee and light toasted malt. Some whiffs of chocolate. A bit of caramel in the back. The tartness moderates, but lingers throughout with some sweet malt punching through now and then.

Moderate in feel with some peppery carbonation and light astringency. Warming.

Very good porter. Normally I like my porters sweeter than this, but I liked this rendition. It's got good balance and an interesting blend of flavors and aromas.

Bottle that was a fun trade extra. Thanks, Iamjeff6!

Ap - Very deep brown with an almost red hue around the edges. There was a quickly fading mocha head, that settles to a minimal ring. No lacing is detected.

Ar - Vanilla cola. There's a hint of roast and chocolate. But I smell a malty version of a famous vanilla cola..

T - It doesn't taste like the nose would have you believe. It's more muddled, and a little more bitter chocolates. The cola aroma is nowhere in the taste. A touch of vanilla finds its way towards the middle-end. This is a tasty treat, but nothing to call home about.

M - A little dry, bordering the light to medium body. I wish it had that classic porter "sourness" mid-palate, and maybe a bit thicker body.

A: This beer pours a very dark brown, just shy of black with a short dark tan head.

S: Chocolate and sweet caramel dominate this beer with a bit of toast and some roasted coffee. I bit if dark fruit is underlying, Very little discernible earthy hop aroma

T: Nice burst of chocolate and coffee with some dark fruit underpinning. It is fairly sweet which is OK for the style. It has fairly low bitterness, just enough to support the big malt flavor. Roasted coffee lingers on the palate and finishes somewhat semi-dry.

M: Medium body with a silky mouthfeel. Low to medium low carbonation, suits the English version of the style well with a tiny bit of astringency in the finish. little alcohol warmth.

O: Overall, this is a nice porter, a little on the sweet side for my taste but not cloying. It drinks very smooth, like a light bodied stout. It definitely suits the style. Very well done IMO.

Peaks around one finger’s worth of deep brown foam, many larger bubbles, disappears very quickly with only a thin ring around the edges, the lacing is equally thin to nonexistent. The liquid is a fully opaque brownish to black color, once in awhile you’ll see a tiny bubble break the surface, barely any sign of an orange or yellow tint. The nose lays it all on the table immediately, fully loaded with malty chocolate, coffee ice cream, vanilla, marshmallow, caramel scents, challah bread too, there’s good roastiness to it too but not really texturally sharpening the sweetness, no citrus, no earthy qualities, it’s a one trick pony but it nails that trick. Medium-bodied, surprisingly focused and dry in texture, the carbonation is strong and full of pinpricks across the palate. At times you do get a light minerally aspect along with mixed sweet grains. Besides that it’s back to the cocoa, coffee, cola, vanilla bean, whipped cream and so on. Monochrome yet has very good length, the flavors persist for some time. It does not overreach, does not good unduly sweet, it’s just a friendly, malt driven porter, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
