We’ve brewed Tavern Brown Ale since we started in 2006, and like us, it’s come a long way. If you like Brown Ales, you’ll love Tavern. Never had one? Trust us. This approachable yet still complex American Brown ale has aromas of toasted coffee, followed by flavors of nuts, caramel and a touch of chocolate. The finish is warm with a hint of citrus.

This is a good brown ale and it goes well with food. Had it from draft poured into a shaker pint glass. Clear brown color with good initial head and good lacing. Roasted malt smell and taste. Toffee and a bit of caramel. Earthy bitter finish. Enjoyed it with my nachos.

A oldy and a goody from Alewerks. Appearance presents a amber color with mild head at first pour. Taste is a decent malt and mild roast with more hops than a traditional brown. A decent beer.

A darker brown that prevents the clarity of the beer from showing up. Head is reactive and doesn’t fade lower than a medium ring.

Nose and aftertaste have a slight oily, slightly burnt rubber note, but otherwise this beer is a solid American brown that has a solid but not strong bitterness.

Specifically, the nose has a nutty, medium dark toast vibe. I’m not taking the rubber note as an off one, but I might be mistaken. Taste is more nutty, and somewhat oily. The hops are complimentary bringing a little woodsiness. Hints of bakers and dark chocolate also surface.

The beer pours a nice and foamy khaki head that dissipates at a moderate pace. The beer itself is clear and deep brown color that looks absolutely great. It is a legitimate brown that looks like what people think brown looks like.

The smell is good. It has a moderate caramel malt note with a nice wooden and earthy herbal note to it.

The taste is pretty good. It has the same herbal and moderate caramel notes with a hint of roasted malt in the finish. There is a moderate bitter and earthy orange hop note that comes out in the middle to keep it from becoming too sweet.

The feel is good. It has a medium body with a tiny and tingling carbonation feel that gives it a nice silky texture to it.

Overall, a pretty good beer worth getting and for day drinking.

It's all in the ingredients. Alewerks utilizes six malts, English yeast, and then Americanizes with USA hops. Mild roast, significant hop presence making it more American than British. Nice solid effort.

Pours tawny chestnut with small head that disappears quickly. Malty nose with a touch of earth. Brown sugar and brown bread notes dominate with a hint of earth from the hops. Medium bodied. A bit too much carbonation for my liking, but as it warms and settles down, the flavors meld. Very little hop bitterness but finish is relatively dry. Some residual sweetness. Good.

12oz bottle into the Avery Barrel Glass

Look: Pours a clear-but-so-dark-it's-opaque mahogany. A thin off-white head dissipates quickly into a thin ring of foam, leaving some spotty lacing behind on the glass.
Smell: Toasty malt, dark bread, brown sugar/caramel. Maybe a hint of vanilla and wood in there.
Taste: Much like the aroma, with a bit less sweetness and a bit more roasty bitterness. Still sweeter than it is bitter.
Feel: On the thin side of medium bodied, middle-to-low carbonation, very tiny bubbles.
Overall: Very solid brown ale, and I've come to expect no less from Alewerks.
