1 pt 9 fl oz hand-waxed bottle poured into a glass. Purchased at Ray's Liquor, Wauwatosa, WI.
Appearance: Pours a deep red with an off-white with a hint of tan foam that dissipates at a decent clip. Lacing sticks on the side of the glass. A little bubbly on the inside - can definitely see through this one - but not substantially so. Bubbles meander to the top, rather than rise briskly.
Smell: Somewhat that of an apple cider vinegar. Hints of peat and smoke intertwine with soft fruity notes. A little bit of wood as well. Becomes more complex after sitting a little and you get past the vinegar hit.
Taste: Sour, for sure, but really... the peat comes through here front and center. It's a pretty complex taste, with a good amount of fruitiness dancing with ... not liquid smoke, but definitely a smoky taste in the background. This is really, really unique and really really tasty!
Mouthfeel: Smooth. Clean. No nasty aftertaste at all. Very light bodied.
Overall: I think I'm gonna buy another bottle of this at Ray's. This is VERY impressive. I really had no idea what to expect - I bought this without reading anything other than the description that Ray's had put up - and I am VERY glad I did.
Be warned: This goes down VERY easy. One can kill a bottle of this no problem.

This ale pours a lovely reddish-brown with a creamy tan head that leaves lingering lines of lace.
The smell is wonderful -- strong, sweet caramel at first backed by sour apple and a hint of smoked wood.
The sour hit my tongue first, tart apple, acidic fruit, grape juice. There is also a fair amount of balancing sweetness and a bit of that smoky peat flavor. Layer upon layer of flavor that completely hides the alcohol.
A very nice mouthfeel as well, smooth and creamy.
Overall, a wonderfully crafted sour scotch ale.

Clear crimson color with just over a finger of head that slowly settles to a thin cap. Moderate amount of sticky lacing is left down the glass.
Slight vinegar aroma to go along with fruit notes of dates, plums, and figs. Also get some brown sugar, wood, and smoke.
When I read sour peated ale, I thought how disgusting. This beer is not. It all works remarkably well together. Nice amount of lactic sourness compliments the caramel, fruit, wood, earth, and smoke flavors. There is a lot going on here.
Deceptively light bodied to weigh in at 11.5%. Perfect amount of carbonation for a sour ale.
I would call this a Flanders Oud Bruin, a very good one at that. I will definitely be buying more of these bottles. Impressive Brau Brothers. If this carried a Surly label, everyone would want it.

Bought this simply for the tick. No idea how it's going to turn out. 750ml into a tulip.
A: Pours a nice clearish brick red with a small off-white head.
S: Aroma brings raspberry, fig, caramel, egg cream. Fruity in a somewhat acetic way but pretty clean overall.
T: Taste brings bright fruity acidity over a hefty base of peated malt. If someone made smoked raspberries, this is what it would taste like. Strawberry and raspberry cut through caramel, smoky grain, molasses, oak tannins behind.
M: Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: The brewers certainly didn't hold back with the smoke, sweetness, or acidity, but nothing is out of proportion. I'd say this is a successful experiment.

Pours deep red/orange with a lasting thin head that leaves lines of lacing.
The smell is sour with caramel backing and peat smoke.
The taste is of sour with caramel, peat smoke and a hint of dried fruits. The sour is strong, as is the peat smoke but doesn't overpower the sweet caramel and dried fruit (apricot?). Complex in a layered way.
Very smooth, dangerously drinking, the alcohol is very well covered - almost undetectable.
A complex, easy-drinking "sipper". Sour, smoky and sweet, this is an exceptional brew!

750 ml bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, but was released recently. Pours fairly crystal clear deep ruby red color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of tart cherry, cranberry, raisin, prune, fig, pear, apple, caramel, molasses, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light smoke, oak, clove, vinegar, funk, light leather, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt, fruity/funky yeast, and moderate barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of tart cherry, cranberry, raisin, prune, fig, pear, apple, caramel, molasses, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, oak, light clove, light smoke, vinegar, funk, light leather, and yeast earthiness. Light fruity/earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of cherry, cranberry, raisin, prune, fig, pear, apple, caramel, molasses, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, oak, light clove, light smoke, vinegar, funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, balance, and robustness of dark malt, fruity/funky yeast, and moderate barrel flavors; with a nice malt/acidity balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, moderately slick, and lightly acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent sour scotch ale. All around great complexity and balance of dark malt, fruity/funky yeast, and moderate barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip in for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
