Alternative pours a dark reddish color, with a small lacing head. There is a sweet and tart cherry like aroma. The taste is much the same, sweet and tart cherry flavors, almost like cherry cola, with a nice creamy malt backbone. Good flavors and good body. Overall its sweet, and has cherry like flavors, and easy to drink.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, banana, pear, apple, raisin, pepper, clove, light chocolate, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good complexity and solid balance of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. A bit too estery. Taste of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, banana, pear, apple, raisin, clove, pepper, light chocolate, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate amount of earthy bitterness/yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, banana, pear, apple, raisin, clove, pepper, light chocolate, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/bitterness/yeast spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly slick/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good imperial altbier style. Well balanced dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity/spicy yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Dark reddish brown color with just under a finger of head that slowly settled to a thick cap. Heavy sheets of lacing is left down the glass.

Aroma of caramel, baked bread, earthy, herbaceous hops, and quite a bit of fruity esters. Hints of grapes, cherries, and plums.

Sweet bready and caramel malt base. Also very herbaceous and fruity. More plums and cherries. Slightly vinous in the finish with a touch of alcohol flavor and heat. Slightly cloying.

Medium body and nicely carbonated. Good texture.

Tastes like a beer from Germany albeit much larger. A lot of complexity and enjoyment can be found.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark and hazy brownish amber with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of tan head that fades into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a solid amount of lacing.

Smell: A toasty and fairly sweet malt forward aroma with hints of caramel and biscuit. Upfront toasted malts with hints of biscuit, toasted bread, caramel, toffee, grains, chocolate, coffee, and yeast. Sweet hints of brown sugar and molasses. Backing presence of earthy hops with some hints of grass. Very malt forward. A pretty solid Alt aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a toasty and pretty sweet malt driven taste with good notes of biscuit and caramel. Toasted barley malts with upfront notes of biscuit, caramel, toffee, toasted bread, grains, chocolate, coffee, and yeast. Sweet taste of brown sugar and syrupy molasses. Subtle background of earthy hops with some grass. A solid toasty malt forward taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Creamy, slick, and slightly syrupy. Alcohol is hidden pretty well.

Overall: A pretty solid malty Alt style brew. Nice taste of caramel and biscuit.
