Clear golden colored beer, with a small white head that doesn't last too long. Not a lot of internal action.

The scent is a mainly caramel malts but seems to have just a dab of chocolate malts as well, and also consists of some grassy hops.

While Brau Brothers Pale Ale is classified as an American Pale Ale, it seems more English to me. It is still pretty light on taste, but the malts seem to take center stage. Fairly bready caramel hops, backed by a light bitter finish.

Purchased at 3 Corners Liquor in Medford, MN. Pours a light straw body with a thin white head that fades. Aroma is honey malts with very faint hops. Mouthfeel is light bodied and lightly carbonated. Flavor is mostly sweet honey malts, but thin and watery overall. Finished very clean with not bitterness. Not what I look for in a pale ale. Drinkability is good, but only because it's so light.

One of six varieties in a 12-pack Brau Brothers Brewing sampler.

Poured from a 12 oz. brown long neck bottle into a clear standard pint glass.

Appearance: A nice clear deep golden color with a one finger off-white foamy head. Receded quickly with very minimal lacing.

Smell: Not much there, slight malt and hop aromas...but both very subtle.

Taste: One of the lightest APA's I've tried. A bit thin and watery, but a decent subtle balanced flavor of malts and hops. Better than an adjunct lager, for sure...but not one of the better American Pale Ale's out there.

Mouth feel: Light body with moderate carbonation. Leaves it all feeling a bit thin.

Drinkability: I would take this over a Bud or MGD, any day...but that's not saying much. This might appeal to someone just starting in the craft beer world, who wants to start slow and mellow. But seasoned craft beer drinkers have many better APA options out there. My least favorite Brau Brothers beer so far...they do a better job with other styles, like their IPA and Scotch Ales.

Eh... Not so much. The flavor is a bit light while the body is still heavy. There's a bready, almost peanut aroma to it with a spritz of citrus that carries over into the light hops flavor with the sweet, pale malts. This is not anything like your SNPA's, more of a broad-appeal pale ale like you might see from a quasi-craft brewery. I think these guys can do better. The flavor is just too bland.

Pours a clear amber with a smallish head. The head doesn't last long but does leave some nice lacing. Little bit better head retention and it would be a great looking beer as it otherwise looks very appealing.

The smell is of bread and fresh orange. But it is very subdued.

The taste is a bit weak and watery but I do get a little hop bitterness to go along with the malt. Not the best but what little taste there is, is well balanced. Goes down quit easily, clean and crisp. Needs a little more flavor.

This pours a clear pale amber color. whith a small white head. The smell is bready. The taste is bready with a hint of apricot, and would rank much better if not for the fishy metallic aftertaste. The mouthfeel is adequate. The drinkeability would be pretty good if not for the aforementioned unpleasant aftertaste. It's always nice to have another small craft brewer in the Minnesota, but the taste of this ale could use a lot of improvement.

Big thanks to delriumfest for including this beer in as an extra. I had never even heard of the brewer before so that made it even better. Served cold, right out of the fridge and poured into a pint glass, this one was consumed on 11/29/2008.

The pour was decent enough. Nice and average amber color with a good bit of side glass lacing. Nice top of white reached around an inch and a half before settling back down.

The aroma was light hops, hints of grain and a light bready note to it. Nicely balanced and quite crisp. Nice flavor carried over well. Started with a nice and clean grassy hop note which desolved into a light grain mid palate before dropping back into the light hops for the finish. Smooth, easy, and light this was an easy session beer for me.

Overall not a bad pale ale and one that I would look to again in the future smooth as could be and went well with lunch.

Poured from bottle into pint glass

A- Dark yellow in color with a bright white head that left no lacing

S- Sweet malt followed by hints of citrus, overall pretty mild scent.

T- Mostly grainy and sweet citrus, very mild hop finish.

M- Light and fairly carbonated.

D- An OK beer, not really enough flavor for me to be a pale ale. Certainly nothing to complain about though.

A: Pours very clean, with a nice one finger head and a mostly clear golden body. a dencent amount of active carbonation. The head doesn't stick around for ever, but leaves some lacing. The color is that of apple juice while the head is very nearly white with many small bubbles. Lacing is solid at least for now. A good looking pale.

S: I can smell fruity hops, reminds me of fruit punch strong in white grape juice. Delving in I get more malty sweetness, but nothing too strong, and still a solid note of fruity hops. Its a strong smell in that I can smell it from a few feet away, but not a pungent or overpowering smell when I put my nose up to it.

T: Sort of sweet, not bitter at all. Well, maybe a little bitter, but more like a fruit gone bad bitter. And no malt either. I taste some sugars. Sort of thin and uninspiring, but nothing to complain about. Patently average to me.

M: Thinnish but smoother than water. While there is carbonation in the glass it doesn't feel carbed in the mouth. Easy enough to sip or quaff.

D: Doable, not all that alluring, but not offensive. Something to drink when you want to drink and that's what there is.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with tytoanderso (thanks!).

Opened to a loud psst (I half expected it to gush but it didn't). Poured a medium and slightly hazy golden color with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of grass, wet grass, and I'm getting something weird; sulphur maybe or vegetables. Light citrus to. I couldn't get around that off aroma. Tastes of grains and some grass. Tart and almost sour finish that doesn't belong there.

Brau Brothers Pale Ale got me (after a fairly hard pour), a
mere thin disk of foam over a cloudy amber brew. There's
not too much carbonation, and the nose is fruity malt and
herbal hop. The flavor is soft malts up front with a bit of an
herbal hop finish. Mouthfeel is thin but crisp. This isn't a
really distinguished APA, there's plenty better ones, but it's
certainly competent. This would be a nice introduction for
somebody just starting to develop a taste for hops. And it is
refreshing and sessionable.

This one poured a pale greyish amber. I had to pour it recklessly to get any head out of it, which I have noticed typical to the brewery.

The nose was very fruity for a pale ale. The main notes were fruity, particularely apple (almost apple cider-ish) and citrus. The hops continued grassy and piney, buttery tones evolved as well.

When tasting it, pilsner came to mind for sure. The hops at the forefront; apple, pine and grassy notes. It definitely had the buttery diacetyl presence also. Not bad, but not typical.

Body was light, carbonation was mellow, feel didn't have too much oomph.

I wasn't too impressed, as far as Pale Ales go, for it tastes homebrewed or something or something different. If you're looking for a good pale ale, this isn't it. If you're looking for something that isn't really true to anything, but not bad??? Try it? But I'm not sure who's looking for something that isn't anything.

This brew pours a semi-hazy amber-orange color. The head is nearly an inch height, rocky, and recedes into decent lacing. The aroma is of grapefruit, grain, caramel, pine resin. The taste is a bit bitterer than the aroma leads on. It is still very balanced, and actually leans slightly toward the sweeter side. It reminds me a lot of Bell’s Amber or Rush River’s Unforgiven Amber. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a high level of carbonation. Overall, this is a nice beer. It is sweeter than I usually like in an APA, but it is of high quality none the less.

12oz bottle received from maximum12 in the Summer Beer BIF. Thanks, Corey! Into my Guinness imperial pint glass

A: Clear golden yellow with a MASSIVE white head that's very very bubbly. Tons of carbonation and lace. Solid stuff!

S: Light citrus hops with some peach, tangerine and some pine. Not much behind the dry hop aroma. As the head recedes, there's some band-aid aroma - NOT appealing

T: Metallic and medicinal with a massive hop bitterness up front. There's also flavors of rotten fruit present. The finish is dry. I spy an infection

M: Overcarbonated and band-aid flavors on the palate make dyan an unhappy beer drinker. In it's defense, this beer is light and decent

D: Nope, not a fan. I don't think I'll finish this

A - Poured out a clear, orange color with a small, white head of foam. It left little to no lacing.

S - It smelled of citrus and grassy hops. Very faint caramel aroma.

T - A sweet APA with a strong dose of caramel. It was grassy and slightly bitter. Nice tasting but almost seems a little English.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light bodied ale with a dry finish.

D - This is a pretty tasty brew. Very sessionable and enjoyable.

Boy bottle, so I had to pour quickly.
Very cloudy, brown amber/gold. Small head considering the early uprising. Seems fizzy and with large bubbles. Leaves a creamy lacing.
Aroma is kinda' messy with a wort quality. Light on the hops, especially for a pale ale. Seems a slight off aroma, like vegetable maybe.
Wow! What a mess the taste is. Really tough to break this down. Flavors aren't distinct, but more mashed together. Wort quality again. Hops are in mild bitterness and some flavor, but more bitterness. Watery quality to the flavor. Fairly long mild finish. Vegetable quality to flavor, as well as a butterscotch note. Yuk.
I like the feel. Has a creamy quality and a smooth carbonation, but I can't recommend this beer other than for that.
A disappointment, really.

Pours an amber-gold with very little head. What is there doesn't last long. There's a little bit of hops in the nose and some sweetness. Not quite as hoppy as I might think for an APA.

The taste matches up to that. There's something a bit off here; an sweetness that overpowers the hops and doesn't really match the rest of the flavor profile. I think there's some potential here if they either up the hops a little bit (not to IPA levels, but enough to match the sweetness) or tone down that dominant flavor.

I could see this being a satisfying lawnmower-type drink when cold, but it's not the kind of brew I'd recommend for a savoring.

Acquired from Sinatra716 via Show Someone What You're Made Of BIF so a big THANK YOU goes out to him.
Poured in to a pint glass

A: This beer pours hazy light copper color with a half finger of white head. Head recedes immediately and leaves minor spider webbed lacing.

S: Nose is dead flowers and caramel malt.

T: Taste starts very soapy, and botanical. Seriously, dead flowers. Big hearty sweet caramel malt character. Very off balanced and not very good.

M: Lighter side of medium body, medium carbonation, thin mouthfeel and slightly dry.

O: Does not go down easily, not tasty, not too filling, mild kick, not a good representation of style. Ouch, this was not an easy beer going down, the hop character is just not good and the malt flavoring is very off balanced. I would avoid this one in the future.

A-Orange colored with a whisp of a off white head..

S-Not bad...a little bit of citrus (orange rinds) along with some malt notes

T-Mildly flavored but relatively tasty.... front includes the citrus notes of oranges and tangerines...malt backbone holds up nicely but is a secondary taste element.

M-Medium bodied...lightly carbonated....pretty easy drinking overall.

D-Much better than their Pilsner but certainly not an earth shaker. There are some redeeming qualities to this but in the grand scheme of things this still rates below average.

pours out a hazy orange tinged brass colour, without any head at all...therefore no lace either. carbonation seems nil. nice aroma of some northwest hops, caramel malt and sweet butter. syrupy malt taste, a bit buttery, with toasted, biscuity overtones followed by a nice northwest hop flavour and a residual bitterness in the finish. i'd say the body is about spot on per style, but the mouthfeel is all slick and syrupy due to the fact that there seems to be no carbonation holding anything together. a second bottle poured into my glass reinforces the notion that there is a carbonation issue, making it difficult to get a real sense of the character of this pale ale. FLAT~! drinkability suffers tremendously because of this. i'll crack open the rest of the sixer and see if all the bottles are the same. if there is any improvement, i'll be sure to change this review accordingly.

another disappointment from the brau brothers. i feel ripped off.

note: a third bottle cracked open and poured out before the end of this review...same flat and lifeless character. terrible.

Hazy copper appearance. Thin off white head. Lacing is minimal. Nice aroma of bright citric aromatics (grapefruit and lemon) and hop resin and a little caramel. First sip brings some citric juiciness and bitterness to the palate. The orange rind grapefruit rind thing is present. As are some light resiny attributes. The malts are solid and caramely in nature. Medium-full body. Maybe even a little bit more. Moderately carbonated. Solid beer overall.
