Appearance: Pours a black body with a fizzy fueled and quickly evaporating beige head.

Smell: Chocolate milk-flavored candy, mellowed and mollified roast, a little hint of dark cherry.

Taste: Chocolate, caramel with a milky sweetness and vibrant dark fruit with cherries element backed by a little licorice. Choco-cherry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body bolstered by a glossy veneer of oats. Medium-light carbonation.

Overall: So-so.

3 Brau Brothers created an entertaining name for an okay beer. Moo Joos is an oatmeal milk stout. It pours a dark brown, traditional to the type, with a brownish head. The aroma reminds me of lactose, maybe it's the milk aspect, along with some sweetness. The taste has a similar sweetness and a pleasant mouthfeel except for the bitter aftertaste.

It's not great, it's not awful. I like the bottle name more than the contents.

Overall a decent stout. It's got plenty of bitterness and a bit of chocolatey notes. I like the complexity due to the mix of oatmeal and milk. Pretty comparable to a guinness draught.

Appearance: Pours a dark black color with a medium-sized, and medium colored, smooth tan head. SRM of 24. (4.00)

Aroma: Strong aromas of strong, smooth, but mostly rich semi-sweet and dark chocolate. Some brown sugar and Tootsie Roll. Sort of like a Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory. (4.25)

Flavor: Flavor follows the nose, but more tame. Mostly cocoa, milk, and air. Then some tobacco, Tootsie Roll, and licorice. Some roasty bitterness. (3.50)

Feel: Smooth, rich, and balanced. Creamy carbonation. Thick and smooth, but not too heavy. (4.25)

Overall: This is a good drinking stout. Not sure I detect the oatmeal other than the smooth body. There's nice flavors and body and overall a pretty good stout. Not overly bitter. A smooth chocolate, milk stout. (Final Rating: 3.89)

12oz bottle served in a WABL sample nonic. Gift from a friend. If dated, I don't see it.

Pours black with light brown edges and a small head, not much carbonation. Smell is chocolate, yeast, and something fruity that makes me think of cherry syrup.

Taste is watery, maybe a little of that cherry flavor, chocolate is light. Mostly, light flavored.

Mouthfeel is thin. Overall...it's not bad, it's just light in body and in flavor.

Pours an opaque brown with a nice lasting foamy tan head and excellent lacing.

The aromas are excellent. Cocoa, carob, oats, lactose, malted milk, and toasted malt.

The brew is a shade sweet, even for the style, but still tasty. Strong malty cocoa notes with oatey goodness and just a touch of astringency.

The brew has nice body, but could use just a bit more carbonation to balance things out.

Overall, a tasty drinkable milk stout.

From undated notes.

Midnight black color.

Small khaki head; minimal lacing. Wondrous nose; milk, chocolate and coffee. Smells delicious!

Medium thick mouthfeel.

After hiding out in the nose, the oats assert themselves up front. Milk chocolate aftertaste. Barely perceptible hops float in the mix. Dark fruits reveal themselves as the drink warms.

Damn tasty; better than most oatmeal or milk stouts. Complex.

Meh. I’ve been spoiled by stouts and porters from Founders, Surly and Deschutes.
