Winner of the South Dakota Homebrew Contest- on tap in the Brewery and at the Brauhaus.
Pours a deep black with a tan colored head which sticks around for a while and leaves nice lacing. The nose is primarily hops but is balanced nicely with notes of roasted malt, chocolate and a hint of coffee. Taste is wonderful, this isn't just a hop-bomb with food coloring or a mildly hoppy porter but a beautiful melding of roasted chocolate malts and the hop-forwardness of an IPA. Hops galore with pine and citrus. Most balanced IBA I've ever had.
Mouthfeel is on par for the style with moderate body and carbonation. Drinkability is good but it is a palate wrecker at over 100 ibus (according to one of the brewers) so 1 or 2 is plenty for me.
A winner for sure here, hopefully they decide to bottle this stuff. It would be awesome to see this in a corked and caged 750.
Serving type: on-tap
