Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

One of the few small grains still grown in Southwestern Minnesota, malted rye is the base for this one-of-a-kind ale brewed and aged in tiny Lucan, Minnesota.Following a long, slow fermentation, the beer is stored away in used rye whiskey barrels brought North from our friends at Templeton, located in the equally tiny town of Templeton, Iowa.

Love Brau Bros so I was really excited to see this in the shelf.

A: Pours a murky red tinted molases like color with large amounts of head that falls slowly into a nice layer atop the beer. Lets nice sheets of lacing on the glass. Huge bubbles left in the bottle.

S: INTERSTING - Very sweet to the nose with rye and a bit a of a boozy smell.

T: Hard to put into words... truely unique in its taste. You get some of the carmelly sweetness upfront with the rye accompanying it. Middle is the barrel aged boozy taste and finishes with a nice boozy bite.

M: Very smooth beer but is definately on the boozy side with a big bite at the end and a bite of the burn you get when taking a shot. Definately a sipper.

O: A must try, truely unique and like nothing else I have ever had. I will have to get a couple bottles of this one while I can. If you see it, get it, well worth the experience.

2011

Appearance: mahogany colored. Opaque and full of rye flake sediment. One or two fingers of a tan head that fades slowly and leaves a strong lacing on the sides.

Smell:strong whiskey. Strong boozy quality. Some molasses and toffee sweetness. Some strong dark fruits, raisins and plums.

Taste: opens with an oak like quality. Quickly taken over by booze, spicy hot whiskey. Subtle notes of raisins, molasses, rye, toffee, tobacco. Lots of complexity if you sip at this as it warms.

Mouthfeel: heavy and thick. Quite hot even at 3 years old.

Overall: good and complex but too strong on barrel. I would like those subtle characters to come out stronger for it to be great

poured 750ml bottle into a chalice. bottled in 2011.

A - Deep dark brown with a 1 finger khaki head. Thin ring with some splotches of lacing.

S - Whoa, sweet vanilla whiskey! There must be a ton of sweet malt in this beer. Brown sugar, caramel, and molasses. Not picking up much rye or barrel.

T - Big, sweet notes of whiskey, caramel, brown sugar, and molasses. Only faint hints of rye and almost no barrel presence. Finish is very sweet with no alcohol. This reminds me of an aged Backwoods bastard.

M - Thick, full body with good carbonation for a 2 year old BA beer. It is rather rich and smooth.

O - Great job by this brewery to create a unique style that not many others dabble in, rye. It is big, bold, and bodacious. Maybe a bit too much to take on alone.
