750 ml waxed bottle served in a Southern tier tulip. Thanks to supercolter for the beer.

A: Pours a hazy brown color with a light khaki head. It recedes quickly to a thin fizzy head. Some splotchy lace is left down the glass.

S: Some tobacco and dark fruit flavors with a little kick of whiskey. Roasted malts with an underlying brown sugar sweetness.

T: Lots of sugary sweetness and dark fruit flavors. Some leather with the fruity Belgian yeast. Whiskey bite with some oak.

M: Medium bodied with a medium carbonation level. The finish is a little boozy, but not hot.

O: This was a solid BA quad. The booze was noticeable, but it wasn't hot and didn't detract from the overall flavor profile.

A Cloudy red hue with a thin but steady, creamy head; really nice lacing

S: Lots of bourbon and oak character with dark fruits, cherries, vanilla, brown sugar lingering beneath

T: Complex fruit flavors, bourbon, oak, booze; the flavors become more evident as the beer warms

F: Medium body and creamy--a bit thin in the finish

O: This is a big, boozy beer and I like it--oaky, bourbony, malty, fruity--this is tasty

Poured into a Tulip Glass

Appearance - Dark Brown and mildly hazy with a few carbonation bubbles cllinging to the sides. Pours a 1 1/2 finger dirty white head that disappears after about a minute. It does leave behind some lacing along the sides.

Smell - Plums, Figs, Caramel, Oak, Rye, Malts, and Hefe-Cloves. Since the barrels which the brewers used used to age this Quad was used to also age their Rye Wyne, you can sense the rye aspect quite clearly along with the strong oak scent.

Taste - Caramel, Plums, Chocolate, Oak, Yeasts, and Malts. Very rich flavors, but at the very end there is a noticeable booziness that makes up the finish, throwing the flavor off balance somewhat.

Mouthfeel - Fairly thick bodied with some moderate carbonation. Thanks to the thickness of the body itself, the carbonation does not interfere with the flavor itself.

Overall - This is a Solid Quad considering the size of the brewery. The flavor could've been a little more balanced, but aside from that I enjoyed this quite a bit!

Poured into a tulip glass from a 750ml bottle.

Pours a very nice hazy muddy caramel colored light brown with some golden hues on the edges. There is a nice dense half inch head that forms that is slightly off-white. The head is dense and creamy and slightly sticky.

Aroma is delicious. Slightly yeasty and spicy nose kicks things off. Very Belgian with some slight medicinal phenols. Then a nice sweet bourbon kick comes through with some nice molasses and slight vanilla and oaky hints. There is also a nice clove and banana note from the yeast that comes in with the bourbon notes.

Flavor starts off with the Belgian yeasty medicinal notes more common to Quads with some nice slight spice. Then the Bourbon comes in with some nice surprising heat and then the nice molasses and vanilla notes. The heat from the Bourbon is pretty intense but it is not too bothersome to me 'cuz I love bourbon but I can see how others might be turned off. There is a nice oaky note in the end that finishes the beer off along with the heat and a faint sweetness trying to cling on. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy with some good carbonation but a bit light for me.

Overall, this was a nice surprise. Good Belgian notes of yeast and some spice with good malt sweetness an some dark fruit notes that then get jacked up by some good whiskey sweetness, vanilla and heat.

A: pours a deep brown with some reddish highlights and is topped by a dense off white head that slowly fades to a small pool into a DFH snifter
S: smells of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, dark fruits, spice and some alcohol
T: tastes of caramel, vanilla, dark fruits, malty goodness, slight spice and a bit of oak. swallow is a nice bourbon kick with some dark fruits and some more oak and spice. some warming alcohol on the finish as well
M: full bodied with slightly prickly carbonation
O: good complexity, solid amount of barrel flavor and a pleasure to drink. Alcohol is well hidden and it goes down pretty easy.
