Small green (25cl) twist top bottle obtained in a pack from Auchen (a huge French supermarket chain) in Calais. Bought for my son and his friends to drink over the christmas period, I borrowed one to review.

Was slightly suprised by the quality to be honest. The beer was poured into my 'La Chouffe' stemmed tulip glass.

Good deep amber/gold colour with a white cap of foaming bubbles on top, looked like a typical lager/pilsner.

The smell was grainy, some hops in there too.

The beer was refreshing, crisp, sharp and dry tasting, a mild hop bitterness towards the end of the mouthfeel.

Not bad at all.

May 2005, in France: An average French lager. Nothing special. Kronenbourg 1664 is slightly better. I won't go out of my way to have it again. Not undrinkable though.

Better than kronenbourg but I don't want to buy this again,
. A 4.20% it's almost water seriously.

Pours a clear golden color with white head. Cereal grains on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Typical Euro style lager, not bad when fresh.

Had this on tap at a cafe in Paris.

Poured a golden amber color. Thin white head that diminished relatively quickly.

Smelled of alcohol and dry malts.

It tasted like a decent Belgium lager actually. I was quite shocked that a French brew could taste so good after most of the French fare that I have had. Tasted slightly sweet and malty. Had the caramel hints of an amber.

Hit the tongue with some substaintial alcohol and carbonation. It was very good but with the hints of alcohol nipping at you. It was a bit surprising not to be skunky

As far as French beers go, I have to give this one the cake (so far) because the 1664 and the like are just not all that notable.

A: Pours a clear golden color with a relatively small head. No lacing at all.

S: Sweet malt (and the neighboring table's cigarette) were all I could detect.

T: Not too bad for a euro pale lager. Quite close, in fact, to a genuine helles. The main taste is the sweet malt. There is clearly some hop presence to balance the sweetness somewhat, but it's not really strong enough to put your finger on.

M: I had this on tap, and the pour was not nitro, but the texture came very close. The pour was actually served at a decent temperature (and it really hit the spot).

D: If I were to see this on tap again, I wouldn't hesitate to order one.

I had this on tap several times at cafes in Paris. It wasn't bad at all but wasn't distinguishable from other Euro-lagers (or American adjunct lagers).

The beer is pale straw color, crystal clear, with a thin white head. The aroma is muted malts, it mainly looked and smelled like Budweiser (USA). Not bad, just what it is. It tastes neutral too, not sweet nor bitter, just an easy drinking everyday beer, the same as the majority of what's available anywhere world-wide.

Not special, but decent enough that I ordered it several times.

Relatively few flavors, even for a lager in the nose and taste buds. It seems to tasting water tasteless and very artificial. However, it will appeal to young throats by his lack of bitterness and sweetness that makes it very similar to ordinary water.

250 ml bottle from supermarket in Nice

Pours amber/golden with large and soft head with excellent retention as the head lasts till the end of the glass, patchy lacing.

Aroma is grassy and sweet malty, hints of citrus fruit, there is very strong grassy element. Taste is hoppy and lightly lemony bite followed by bland malt and rather clean finish. Mouthfeel is light-medium with average carbonation.

Quite typical Euro lager, but on the better side, especially the attractive looks.

Well just another macro produced by the french, with certainly no special features to it. The pour, rather pale and evidently watery with a fizzy and fast disappearing head, the vague hoppy and malty nose and the certainly weak, watery, slightly bitter and malty taste prove it to be a beer for those who want quantity over quality: you can buy 24 for a mere 7.50 euro (monoprix) over even the 'kro' (at around 9.00E)

This sample of Kanterbräu came in a stubby green 250 ml bottle that I picked up in the French supermarket chain, Carrefour; I was a bit concerned (needlessly, as it turned out) about the fluorescent lighting having an unpleasant affect on the beer.

Kanterbräu is a dark amber lager with a small head and limited lacing. The smell is slightly sweet and fairly typical for a European lager. The taste is disappointingly bland; bitter with a short hoppy finish. On the palate, Kanterbräu is thin and fizzily carbonated. Kanterbräu is not bad and it isn't good. It is probably best described as a French Budweiser.
