Style: Euro Pale Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:

Beer from France? Sure, why not. I mean, they have world class cuisine, know how to make wine and cheese, one would think surely they can make beer, right? Sometimes perception and practice run to counter purposes. This pale lager is a lightweight even by Euro standards. Light malt, hops, more stuffing than most AALs but not by much.

Breakfast beer with quiche.

The French most famous lager. Nothing special but widely available in France. Pretty cheap there. But don't bother there are much better stuff in France to this day.

Looks great, crystal clear, straw yellow, some head som lacing.
From now on we go downhill
Aroma is textbook lightstruck as you would expect from a pale lager in a green bottle at the airport lounge. Metallic too
Taste is mainly metallic bitterness with a little balancing Pilsener malt sweetness.
Not too thin, not watery, but chalky
Could be decent but suffers a lot from the green bottle

Overall an ok beer, nothing special, would not buy again unless price is $1.00/bottle

Light gold colour, medium carbonation and head, has a decent light sweet taste. It tastes very similar to Miller Genuine Draft. I'm not sure what that after taste is.... I keep thinking apples. Overall, not a beer to savour, not too much going on, but we be a great choice maybe if I wanted to get drunk. Glucose in the ingredients? Not sure if I like that.

This beer tastes reasonable, but its what it says on the can that concerns me. The list of ingredients says glucose syrup and hops extract. Doesn't sound very nice to me, hence the rating

Serving Type: 500 mL Can

A- Pours a Slightly Amber Golden colour with a 3/4 finger white head that reduces down to a thin whispy patch fairly quickly. Lots of patchy lacing

S- Sweet Honey with a touch of grassy hops. A little on the sweet side

T- White Bread, Honey, and floral/grassy hops. Refreshing.

M- Light Body and Low-Moderate Carbonation. A little too relaxed on carbonation (maybe it's an older can?).

O- A good example of a Euro Pale Lager with some good malt flavours, as well as some good grassy hop flavours. I recommend if you can get it in a can (as opposed to the green bottles).

Smooth going down, reminds me of my trip to France and lunch at a brasserie in Tours. Not overpowering and with magnificent color. Slight after taste, but a lasting flavor which will have you wanting another, but maybe at another time. I like it and will drink again. Cheers!

Had on tap at a Buffalo Grill restaurant in France. Average lager, decent taste, went well with food....but while the whole of France produces better beer than most would think, its typical crappy pale lagers like this that get it a bad rap.

Pours godlen amber with excellent clarity and bubble flourish. Plenty of lager bubbles to be on the rise constantly. Off white head that lasts and retains well to some streaky lacing around th e glass. Nose is malty with practically no hop scent at all. Hops are earthy and faintly herbal with some spice. No diacetyl, only a small hint of dms from pils malt. Not any real sweetness on the nose. Breaddy. Taste is good malt , a light herbal hop without much coolness. Fainter than the pils and a bit earthy. Breaddy soft malt, small flavoring from the dms to make your mouth water and show you a bit of the earthy herbal hop. Good carbonic bite that makes up most of the flavor int he finish while the bread lingers on the palate. Hops are just bitter enough for balance. There's only one moment of residual sweetness that develops at the finish and it seems out of place to me but not awful or too sweet.

i liked this beer slightly more than other euro beers but still not my kind of style. i usually buy these types of beer in ''mixer-sixers'' since one or two at a time is all i can handle.

Bought at asda. Costs £20 for 30 cans! So under 67 pence a can. I have spent the last year sampling ales and found some fantastic beers but at great expense. Though this is a macro lager and clearly uses some cheaper ingredients it does it brilliantly, for a euro lager has a fantastic smell and good head. I havd paid 5 times to price for 'craft' beers that fail to deliver as much taste and more importantly refreshment. Im sure I will sample many more beers in the future but will not be spending any more excessive time or money in the beer aisle. I will have this as my go to 'house' beer and probably visit my local brewery to sample some ales on tap. Thank you Kronenbourg 1664. I love you. Haha.

Poured from the a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at the World of Beer in Cary, NC. This beer is a golden yellow color with a small white head. The aroma has some hops and grass to it, pretty mild. The flavor matches the aroma and I was surprised by the full but plain flavor, very enjoyable. the beer was well balanced and had a great mouthfeel.

25 cL bottle (marked best before "07.16") oured into a plastic cup. Clear, bright gold color; visible carbonation; frothy white head with nice lacing. Aroma of fresh white bread, grains and grassy hops. Good malt body with herbal hops, faint alcohol and crisp bitter finish. Medium body, crisply carbonated with a clean finish. Clean, refreshing and drinkable with just enough flavor - a decent European lager.

330 ml bottle into lager glass, bottled on 12/23/2014. Pours crystal clear golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lemon, wheat, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with well balanced pale malt and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, wheat, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of wheat, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with minimal yeast ester notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very nice pale lager style. All around good robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

I'm a big fan of the Euro lager style, at least in the summer, and I found this to be pretty typical. Cracker malts, Pilsner malts, cereal grains, touch skunky with a bit of sweetness.

France may be about being a wine country but it does pretty darn well for a place that's not big on beer. Kronenburg 1664 has that very simple taste that even the youngest beer connoisseur would enjoy him/herself. It's also good for Christmas as it does have a "sweet" taste. It's definitely a product of French national pride and they should be very proud of what they accomplished.

This is definitely a aperitif beer, good with appetizers, or if you just need to kick back and stretch your legs some at the beach.

Pint on tap.

Appearance (Look): Poured a clear gold colour, lots of carbonation visible, more than most euro lagers. Small head but did retain well and some lacing visible throughout.

Smell: Grassy hops and sweet malts. Not much but as to be expected.

Taste: Follows the nose with those grassy and floral hops. Bready malt and wheat. Is a slight citrus hop flavour but not as strong as advertised. Well balanced.

Mouthfeel (Feel): A lot of carbonation here, lighter bodied. Crisp feel

Overall: One of my preferred euro lagers, a nice grassy aroma and flavour, well balanced and easy to drink.

Picked up a single bottle as part of a build-your-own-six-pack at my local Trig's grocer. No bottled on date present. Poured right from the fridge into a pilsner glass.

L: Pours a crystal-clear straw color with about an inch of white head that sticks around for a bit, dissipates to a healthy film, and leaves nice lacing on the glass. Profuse visible carbonation present.

S: Cracker malts up front, accompanied by some nice lemon zest. There's a slight bit of skunk about the nose, but this really isn't off-putting. There's also some grassy and notes in the mix, as well.

T: Sweet bready/cracker malt notes right up front. There's an immediate tartness that enters, with some nice lemon and grassy notes. The middle introduces a bit of earthiness that plays along with the cracker malts and lemon zest. The back end is more of the same, with the addition of a bit of cracked pepper spice.

F: A lighter-bodied brew that's smooth, a bit creamy, and very clean-finishing. There's some definite tart but no discernible bitter. It has a nice level of carbonation.

O: I really believe this Euro lager is much better than the current average it's getting from BAs. It has a nice malt profile, great lemon notes, and a spot-on feel. If I ever get the hankering for this style, I'll definitely give this one another go.

Clear straw, almost golden color, with average activity. White 2 finger head, lasting around 10 minutes, with some good legs.

Faint sweet grains and citrus smell, with a hint of metal. Flavors of fresh grains, lemon, lime, and herbal spices. Strong syrupy taste of bread, biscuits, and slightly grassy.

Slick light body with prickly carbonation. Well balanced finish, ending with slightly dry wine like sweet grainy feel and pleasant tongue numbing noble spices.

Overall a good craft offering decent flavors, good freshness, and a nice warming finish. Although a little unbalanced being too syrupy.

I am drinking this from a green bottle in a Pilsner glass.
L: Pours brilliant gold under a sudsy white foam cap that provides light sheets of lace.
S: Slight skunk on the nose with light grains and some apple.
T: Light grains with a hint of apple and a slight light struck flavor.
F: Crisp, light with above average carbonation.
O: A French beer in an attractive green bottle that looks better on the store shelf than it tastes in your glass. Not offensive but not great. Leave it on the shelf.
