We pour a brew of honey orange. It holds a one finger head of creamy beige bubbles that recedes rather quickly. It leaves a solid sheet of lacing around the glass as it goes. Carbonation is active, and no sediment or haze is noted. The nose really takes you by surprise, but not necessarily in a good way. It is buttery and malty, with a decent peppery alcohol bite. Coppery metallics are big, and there is a strong salty, sweaty quality to it. The later is contributable to a Belgian yeastiness. There are synthetic fruit notes, of strawberry and light cherries. The taste takes the aroma to the next level. As we sip, toasty malts, lemony tannins, and white sugars hit first. There is a definite saltiness, as in the nose, and spice, with black pepper and a tingly clove. Through the middle there are light esters, with equally calm banana flavoring. The malts calm down quiet a bit, but retain a caramel darkness and sweetness, and a slight toast. The finish shows a revival of the peppery booze, and more of that clovey goodness. The yeast comes through for the first time, adding a hollow, cave-like musk and moss. The aftertaste breathes mildly, with the sweeter qualities of the malts, fermented red apples, and a quick bite of metallics. The body is medium and the carbonation is lighter, considering how high it appeared. The lips are left sticky, and a certain sugary, syrupy quality exists with each sip. There is a light coating and creaminess on the slurp, but little froth or smack. The abv is appropriate, and the beer drinks easily.

Overall, what we enjoyed most about this brew was the solid and balanced flavoring, which was much more complex than expected. It starts sweeter, with solid malts and spice, but morphs into this complex, musty surprise that really fits the style well. At first, the nose was overdone, with crazy metallics, but it really calmed down with warmth, and became yet another pleasant component of this beer in the end.

A-Pours a rich clear amber with beige head, average retention.

S-Pleasant toasted malt, faint hops.

T-Rich malt flavor, bitter hops in the finish, fruit esters, residual sweetness.

M-Even balance, moderate carbonation, nice aftertaste, toasted malt flavor lingers, medium-bodied and smooth.

O-Good offering that is good enough to please someone that appreciates good beer, and familiar enough (from a macrobrewer) to get a macro drinker to try it. Seems sessionable at first but it will sneak up on you fast. Simple and unpretentious.

Decided to pick this up at Monoprix seeing as how it is a new offering for 2011.
Pours a copper-amber colour with about 1 finger of quicklly dissipating head. Minimal, but present lacing.
This is a slightly malty beer, much different from the other "biere de garde", 3 Monts which I have tasted.
I rather lively mouth feel with rather rather malty taste, countered by some hops turns out to be a great choice as far as French beers go. Certainly the best I have tasted to date from Kronenbourg. While not outstanding, this is certainly worth a try when in France. Definitely session-able.

Millésime pours a deep copper colour with ample head that dissipates quite quickly, liberating a swath of toasted malt and hop smells that whet the appetite. There are also notes of sour cherry that make this a very interesting beer leading up to the first sip.

The taste does not disappoint, with the toasted malt leading the assault. It makes for a relatively sweet up front taste which is just barely balanced by the hops, although I wouldn't categorize this as bitter by any means.

The mouthfeel is just as good. Its a slick beer with just the right amount of carbonation and a medium dry finish. Overall, I'd definitely buy this again - if only it were available in my region. I picked this one up from a Monoprix in Paris, so if you're there on vacation make sure to drop into one. Their selection is pretty good for a department store.
