Poured into a pint glass from a bomber purchased in June '15 from the brewery. Nice khaki brown head with a black body. Nose is very weak roast...definitely would have liked more rich aroma. Taste is more to my liking with a nice roasted coffee bitterness. Feel is a little thinner than I prefer. Overall though a nice beer from a great pizza making brew company!

Bottle label data: none noted.

Black as night body with a dense, rocky, tan head. Roasted, slightly charred grain aroma; a bit of brown sugar and vanilla. Smooth milk chocolate with a sour cherry character. Heavy body, smooth mouthfeel; slightly coarse.

A fair stout but a bit too much on the tart side of things.

aside from their coconut brown lager (epic!), this is the best beer I've had from these guys by a mile. its a style id like to see way more of, and a great example of it. matte finished black color, dense and rich looking, rather ghostly white head on it for such a dark brew, looks great as it drinks too with thin and clean ring lacing. the nose is semi sweet at first, like bakers chocolate, with lots of chocolate malt and moderate bitterness from the roast. almost has a dry irish stout yeast vibe to it, irish ale id guess, but its flattering to the density of the grain. perfectly balanced between bitter grain roast and sweet velvety textured cocoa and residual sugars. full body and mellow on the tongue, but not under carbonated. really and truly much better than the other three barrel stuff that has made it bottles so far. we need more foreign style stouts on the market, and this is a darn good place to start for the uninitiated.

I picked up a bottle (bomber) of this in Pagosa Springs back in August based on the recommendation of the liquor store owner.

The beer pours excessively foamy, producing a head that fills the entire glass and takes forever to dissipate. I found this a bit problematic and suppose I should deduct some points for it, but the beer and head were pretty good looking. The beer looked like engine oil and the head formed huge peaks of khaki-colored froth, so it wasn't all bad.

The smell threw me off a bit, as the first aroma I got was soury and vinegar-like. This completely distracted from the coffee and chocolate notes that were present and actually seemed promising.

The taste too was affected by a bit of sourness, very much like the sour beers Three Beers makes. It got me wondering if maybe something had crept into the batch. Still, the beer had a great roasty, toasted coffee and dark chocolate taste, so I found it to be a pretty good tasting beer.

The mouthfeel suffered a bit due to the sourness and occasional blasts of carbonation, but again, overall didn't detract much from the beer.

Overall, this beer seems to a have a lot of potential and seems to have been affected by the other beers Three Beers brews or by something during the bottling process. However, it was still good, so I'd love to taste one again in the future.
