This 9% ABV hop bomb is brewed with 2-row barley and a touch of Munich and honey malts giving it a solid malt base. We then add wave after wave of citrusy old school hops followed by a huge dry hop charge to create the hoppiest beer brewed anywhere.

Appearance: Amazing, a nice burnt orange with plenty of head and great lacing.
Smell: Very balanced but also very hoppy. Floral and citrus notes are most obvious followed by malt notes.
Taste: Full bodied. This isn't a typical northwest IIPA. We have balance between the hops and malt. The good news is that the hops win out in the end to create a great hoppy bitterness in the taste.
Mouthfeel: Very heavy and substantial. It feels almost like eating this IIPA. Carbonation was about perfect and it finished nicely, not too dry and not too sweet.
Drinkability: This is a monster of a beer. Two pints in and you are tapping out.

i have been seeing these bombers around since i moved to idaho, but have not yet taken the plunge. i was stoked to see it as a cask offering at bardenay eagle this weekend, a neat format for any imperial ipa, but especially this one, which isnt english to me really, but definitely a little older school, piney and bitter, quintessentially northwester, and with plenty of malt support in body and flavor even though this remains more orange to brass in color rather than caramel or amber as some of them get. it has a bubbly airy white layer on top, looks unfiltered to me, and still has some life in the glass. chilled without being cold, perhaps a little warmer than conventional cask pours. really nice beer here with obvious freshness and a ton of flavor, great proportions, and something that hides its alcohol extremely well, doesnt drink anything like 9% abv! a definite juniper note to the hops, fresh cut pine, bitter orange and grapefruit pith, and some honey character to balance from the grain, short of toasted or caramelized or anything though. there has some be some columbus and centennial hops in here, its that sort of profile anyway. there is just a little bit of breadiness to the yeast, which ferments this near dry at the end but leaves a little taste which i think is a unifying element in this. i love the texture from the cask too, smooth and it lets me feel the hop oils more intensely without the normal carbonation. very good overall, excellent with spicy food, and a beer and brewery that are definitely on my radar now! yum, not enough of this sort of thing around anymore...

22 oz bomber from Capital Market,Salem.$4.59
Really hazy yet glowing orange ale with a lovelly eggshell white head..that is tightly bubbled.
Massive resiny, spruce and herbal hop aromas wow.
Taste is all those hops above plus a sweet honeyish malt that seems to compliment.
Nice smooth palate...not too sticky.
Overall very nice good stuff

Poured into chilled glass mug from a 22 oz bottle. Very hazy dark amber colour with an off white head and plenty of lacing. Smells of smooth piney hops and fruity citrus. Taste is of pine and slight citrus with a bit of biscuit to nicely balance. Great mouthfeel. Goes down very smooth with just a bit of hop bitter aftertaste. Very good and with a sneaky 9% abv. Prost!

On tap at front door, Boise. Sharper, and smoother, version of their bottled edition. Cask conditioning adds smoothness and lots of citrus character. Hops still come through loud and clear, but have the edges rounded off. Very nicely done.

nice and tart citrus and pine. Cloudy orange amber with thick robust creamy head lots of sticky lacing. Aroma of oranges and pine trees. Flavor is astringent citrus, pine, malt. Sharp but not overbearing.

I question the style delineation on this one. I feel like it performed ok for a double IPA but would rank as an excellent American Strong Ale. The hops do a fantastic job of balancing out the body, better than most beers this strong, but still struggle to come through as one would hope for an IPA. Well balanced, tasty, and drinkable, but didn't strike me as being as hop-driven as the name implied!
(and I did drink it in Ontario, OR, so I can't imagine the keg aged an overly long time...)

Darker than average ipa color, dark gold and light brown, aroma was pretty much lacking. At least it wasn't bad.
Taste had a lot of bitterness from the old school hops. The alcohol was decently covered, especially since it really wasn't the biggest beer for being 9%.
Too expensive in bomber format. Even at $8/6pack, there still would be a lot better options on the shelf.
