On tap at Rock And Brews in El Segundo, CA.

Pours a clear dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and slight spice aromas. Taste is much the same with a vegetal flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer with a decent smell but the flavors are a bit weird on this one.

A - Looked like a cup of coffee with a nice chocolate head. I tend to like my porters to look a little darker.

S - cinnamon, cinnamon, and pie crust. Smells like a porter that's been soaking in cinnamon sticks. Can I get credit for that?

T - Light cinnamon and nutmeg flavor. Big on the dark malts. Tastes much more like a beer than the smell lets on. Very drinkable pumpkin ale that's well balanced between sweet and bitter.

M - Average feel with little to no carbonation. Smooth aftertaste. The amount of sweetness really reminds you of your favorite fall desert.

O - Very nice fall beer but could benefit from a little more roast in the malt flavor. Doesn't quite live up to Star Hill's Pumpkin Porter.

10 oz. poured at Bailey's Taproom; another new and intriguing yet-to-be-tried pumpkin beer (I'm thankful that more and more of these are showing up locally this fall...).

A: Just about as dark and sooty as you could ask for in a porter; impenetrable ebony, fine creamy khaki atop, long curtains of coating lace.

S: Cocoa and sweetened coffee and a puff of smoke... But not much 'pumpkin'. Hmmm, really nothing aroma-wise telling me this is anything but a standard porter. A pretty good-smelling porter, true, but still just a porter...

T: Ashy, dry chocolate, roast coffee, a touch of vanilla sweetness in the finish - but little that distinguishes. A refined tanginess - earthy and mildly sour represents at key moments. As it warmed, this flavor combo really began to grow on me... Whatever 'pumpkin' there is kinda gets lost, but I'm ok with that when the end result tastes this good.

M: A fine, blanketing grittiness: imagine the mouthfeel after a cup of rich, black coffee. Medium-full, body-wise. Moderately carbonated.

D: Pretty strong, but surprisingly drinkable. Certainly not pumpkin-forward (if we're putting that word in the title), but well-balanced and -designed in general. Would have another of this tasty brew.

Had a 10 oz pour on tap at 1702. Served in a wide mouth snifter.
Opaque black with a brownish tinge at the side of the glass. No head to speak of but a thin ring around the edge, doesn't come back with swirling. No lacing. On tap though, I'll cut it a little slack.
The nose is faint but I pick up baking chocolate, charred malt, and a little subtle pumpkin if I look for it. A little caramel comes out as it warms.
The taste comes on with roasted malt, then chocolate and a subtle squashy pumpkin (as opposed to a pumpkin pie like taste). A little earthiness, maybe from the pumpkin. Ends pretty dry with roast and char. Again, I probably wouldn't have picked up any pumpkin notes unless I was looking for it.
Thin texture (even for a porter) and a little high on the carbonation.
I was excited to try this but it was kind of a let down. Not bad, but a fairly average porter with very little pumpkin presence. Didn't taste like an imperial either, I'd have guessed it was a regular porter.

A: Poured deep brown with a tannish head, light bubbles and lacing

S: Lightly roasted malt, cocoa, and a whiff of fresh pumpkin

T: A little bit of fresh pumpkin here but more like someone dropped a few pumpkin seeds in the mash and called it a day. Very disappointing. The rest of the beer was a traditional porter; roasty, cocoa, light booze and medium body.

M: Pretty high in carbonation, thin on body for a "Imperial"

O: Body was thin, not enough pumpkin to warrant the pumpkin name or style. If you are going to claim a Imperial Pumpkin Porter then you need to bring it because TREAT kicks the shit out of this beer and so does most other Pumpkin Porters
