On tap at HAF, after pouring this early Thursday session decided to see what the lines to taste this were all about, multiple tastings.

Hazy orangish amber body, some visible carbonation. One finger off-white head, quick dissipation with minimal lacing. Malty caramel nose, good deal of noble hops. Taste mirrors nose, malty upfront leading to a fairly bitter resiny finish. Mouthfeel is on the thin side of medium, minimal effervescence. Drinkability pretty good, though beware of ABV, well hidden. A fairly hoppy strong ale, starts off resiny and gets more citrusy as the beer warms. A nice one-off.

On-tap at Pizza Port Ocean Beach

A: The pour is a hazy amber color with a thin white head.

S: Smells like butter. A lot of butter. There's a bit of a white vinegar aroma to it as well. Some more butter and then a little bit of rubbing alcohol.

T: Tastes like burnt popcorn at the outset. Then there's the requisite butter flavor, which is always awesome. It's really dry and there's a mild bready malt flavor.

M: The body is medium and the carbonation is medium as well.

D: This was just awful. I've seen beers from these guys around before but never pulled the trigger. Now I'm kind of glad that's the case.

The bartender that served this didn't know what style it was, and it's listed here as a Strong Ale, but I found this to be more of an ImpIPA than anything else. When I think of a "Strong Ale" I generally think of something more along the lines of North Coast Old Stock Ale. Just keep that in mind.

Served in bubble pint glass. Poured a clean, clear orangeish-amber color, with 3/4 of an inch of white head that had good retention and lacing.

The aroma was very hop forward, a hoppy punch in the nose, featuring pine and floral notes, with some citrus tones in the background. I didn't find a noticeable malt scent. The flavors were also very much a hop bomb, again no noticeable malts, and there seemed to be a bit of spiciness on the finish.

The body was thin for what I expect from the style, but would be nicely full for an ImpIPA. Drinkability was good, but I can't see myself having more than one of these tongue burners at a sitting.

Overall, a pretty good beer, as I've found all the BV brews I've tried to be. Certainly worth seeking out.
