I didn't get to crack this growler until over a week after I picked it up from Whole Foods, but it held up superbly. It pours a dark earthy brown color, with a thin film of beige head on top. The aroma is subtle but hearty, with a dry, earthy combination of bittersweet chocolate and roasted nuts. The flavor is more robust, with characteristics of brown bread, bitter cocoa, an earthy minerality, and some oatmeal with brown sugar. Despite the fading carbonation, the mouthfeel is still substantial and satisfying.

Overall, with a complex, dry earthiness and only a subtle sweetness to balance, this beer is a very nice representation of one of my favorite styles.

Had this one on a past ticking trip to Asheville! Served from tap into a Green Man shaker. Poured a massively dark brown with a half finger light tan head that subsided to a minimal amount very quickly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, coffee, oatmeal, and subtle dark chocolate. The flavor was of roasted malt, toasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, oatmeal, spice, and subtle pepper. It had a light feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. If I am honest this really wasn't a top-tier porter. I did like the fact that it was trying to be complex, but it just fell short due to some flavor clashing going on. The toasted malt was slightly invasive on the palate and really lingered at first. Once you got used to it you could enjoy some of the subtle flavors going on, but by that point it was a case of too little too late. Glad I got to try it, but doubt I would go out of my way to do so again in the future.

On tap at Kickstand in Charlotte, tap handle says Oatmeal Porter. Can't believe this is the first time this has been seen, but ok.

Brownish black pour, off white head with a good amount of lacing.

Aroma, a malty, graininess. Earthy, dark chocolates.

Taste, good dose of chocolate, peat. Almost a little milk stout quality as well. Lighter coffee and cocoa finish. Straight forward but really enjoyable for me.

Good near creamy medium body. Must be lower abv, really easy and enjoyable drink. Solid effort.

Growler brought from the Brewery to NY. 5 days old. (quick hits from last nights glasses)

Dark Brown, Light Black pour with an off white head which just covered the beer and faded quickly.

Earthy Malty nutty smell with a good amount of chocolate.

Light amount of coffee flavor up front followed by chocolate in the aftertaste.

Light on the tongue and easy to sip with very little lingering aftertaste.

Well done. Would try again.

Appearance: Arrives with a nice mocha foamy cap on top of the obsidian colored liquid

Smell: Very roasty, with dark chocolate and a hint of pine

Taste: Charred toast and dark chocolate, up front, with developing fruit and husky flavors; the chocolate re-emerges, after the swallow, and joins with the husky tones in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Congrats to the brewery for their bronze medal at the GABF for this beer; I would prefer a bit more of a creamy mouthfeel as befits the oatmeal but this is still a nice beer
