This is a store that has a few craft beers to chose from, but far from one of the better selections in town (which really is not that impressive to begin with). A cooler in the back is filled with a mix of BMC, Sam Adams, and a few offerings from Goose Island and Bells. There are some craft six packs sitting on the shelve to the left (as you walk in the store). Again, a few offerings from Goose Island, Bells, some Schlafly, and O'fallon as well. There are also a couple of branded glasses to choose from. If in town, keep an eye out for Bourbon Country Stout. They tend to get some from time to time, but they never sell and sit on the counter for years. Then they cut the prices in half to try and move them. Some of the other stuff tends to sit on the shelve for a long time as well.
The service is just average. Some college kids working for minimum wage. Don't expect much help, and really you don't need any. Overall not a place I would go to over P3 for craft beer.

There are 'slim pickins' in Carbondale (pun intended) as far as beer stores go ... Pick's liquors is possibly the best of the lot. Small store that sits toward the back of a lot and is a little hard to find if you don't already know where it is. This place, like most others in Carbondale, caters to the college crown predominantly, but they are a bit of a gem in the rough.
They don't have anything outstanding or rare, but they do have some solid selections and the staff is always friendly and helpful. This, in fact, is what seperates Pick's from the other liquor stores in Carbondale. Paul is willing to try to order almost anything you might request. Sometimes he's sucessful, sometimes not, but he'll always try and call back often with a progress report. This may not sound broundbreaking, but try getting the other stores in town to do even this much.
As far as their selection, you'll find several Bell's beers such as Sparkling Ale, Amber, Two Hearted (due to my request), Oberon, ... they also recently got in a line of 5 or 6 Mendocino Brewing Co. beers for a fellow moving here from CA. They have a few Goose Island beers, a couple of Rogue offerings, and an occasional Unibroue or two. They also tend to carry most of the O'Fallon Brewery's line. They also have several Lindeman's offerings, which I'm not that thrilled with nornally, except that they're the only store that has the Lindeman's Gueuze (not a bad Gueuze, if you ask me).
Over all, just an 'okay" selection of craft beers, but the service really is a selling point for these guys.
