look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | overall: 3

Pours a slightly hazy deep caramel color with copper highlights and a quarter inch khaki grass that quickly dissipates.

Aroma is dominated by caramel, toasted malt, and fruity esters indicative of alcohol content. There's a bit of toffee and diacetyl.

Flavor is fairly sweet, almost cola-like, with a caramel, bready finish. There's a grainy backbone, with a slightly cloying finish. Banana esters surface late.

Body is moderate, with moderate to low carbonation. There's a touch of alcohol warmth.

Overall, a pretty lackluster brew. Malt complexity is lacking for the style, and the flavors are just not jiving well.

Pours clear copper color with an off white tan, bold head that has great retention. (note: based on what I observed, amazed that many here said head retention was nil.)
Aroma: I get some sweet malts & to a lesser extent some mild, spicy hops. Taste of same follows.
A bit think in body and in mouthfeel.
Good solid easy to drink beer.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a nice copper/deep amber color with a one finger fizzy just off white head. The head fades quite quickly leaving only a very light foam on the top of the brew and a light persistent foam floating atop the brew.

Smell – The smell is of a roasted malt with a good dose of caramel sweetness. Other sweeter aromas of some apple and a bit of cherry as well as some aromas of a more spicy nature with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg round out the smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a bit of a roasted malt and a rather strong caramel sweetness. These flavors create a base for the beer lasting, throughout the entire taste. As the flavor advances from the beginning to the end, light flavors of apple and some spice comes to the tongue. In the end, a little bit of a citrus and herbal hop taste comes to the tongue with a slight intensification in the roasted malt flavors, leaving a somewhat sweet but lightly roasted and spiced flavor on the tongue.

Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the slightly thinner to average side with a carbonation level that is a bit on the higher side. A little thicker of a body and a slightly lower carbonation may have been better for the roasted malt flavors of the beer, but the combination of the two (thickness and carbonation) did do a nice job for the sweet and fruity flavors of the brew, so overall it was quite acceptable.

Overall – A rather enjoyable and quite easy drinking oktoberfest that comes at a great price. Rather nice overall.

A - Amberish copper, mostly clear, off white head has some retention and lacing.

S - Toasted bread, cereal grain sweetness, light herbal hops.

T - Follows the nose, with an added sweetness, nearly wiping out any hop flavor.

M - Medium body, high carbonation, not crisp or dry on the finish with residual sugars left in the mouth.

O - Just doesn't that crisp, clean finish that should be in the style. Overly sweet, but still drinkable to some extent.

A - A very dark caramel brown, clear with a 1/2 inch of opaque colored head that turns to a thick lace ring. Lacing is pretty nice too.

S - Smell is a bit skunky but a nice mix of on style bread malts, a touch of hops and a good biscuit presence.

T - The hops and sour dough breads hit you first but is quickly drown out by a very strong caramel malt presence that leads to a bit of dry yet sweet finish. Tasty.

M - Light to medium quite easy to drink.

Overall I had this a touch warm and it only cost me $1.50 for the bottle so not only was it a great price but also a top notch take on the style. Next to the lager it it quite easily the best thing these guys make and the most affordable (must be like 22 bucks a case)

A phenomenal Oktoberfest beer from the Lion! I believe this is the flagship seasonal from Stegmaier, and they seem to be promoting it more than their other products.

A: Dark orange/amberish in color. Small, tan head with little retention.

S: Caramel malts

T: Strong caramel flavors and a bit sweet. Very tasty with hardly any hoppiness present.

M: Very smooth with decent carbonation.

O: Overall, this is a phenomenal seasonal beer. I know it was a big hit at last year's PA Oktoberfest, and aside from the discontinued Amber Lager, this is the Lion/Stegmaier's finest offering. I believe it has been released a bit early this year. It hasn't lasted very long in the last few seasons, it's very hard to find by mid October. My suggestion is to stock up as much as you can, it's a fast mover and it certainly lives up to the hype I gave it!!

12oz bottle served in a dimpled glass beer mug.

L - clear orange/amber color with a off-white head that thinned to a ring.

S - sweet caramel malt with a earthy undertone.

T - somewhat sweet tasting with minimal bittering that just sneaks in before finishing sweet on the lips.

F - light/medium bodied with easy drinkability.

O - I enjoyed it and I will have it again.
