I have made it my personal mission to review as many pumpkin beers (ales & lagers) as possible this year. I am now beginning to realize the foolhardy nature of this, but it is too late to turn back!

From the bottle: "Over 150 Years of Brewing Excellence"; "Brewed in the Honorable Tradition of Charles Stegmaier". The rebus under the cap was # 345, but I will not give you the answer unless you ask me for it. I HATE spoilers!

My pour brought me two fingers of dense, tawny head with excellent retention. Nose had muted spices and I am coming to realize that too much of a good thing is a bad thing. I would prefer, in this style, that the entire spice rack NOT be dumped into the brew kettle! This was just about right in terms of the scent and its intensity. Color was a medium-amber (SRM = > 9, < 13) with NE-plus quality clarity, enabling me to see into the future. I am having a beer brunch, followed by watching the Stillers via satellite at a local sports bar. Mouthfeel was kind of thin and watery, but the flavors were just right. I felt like Goldilocks in Baby Bear's chair. I was getting cinnamon with hints of vanilla underlain by cloves and nutmeg. I cannot stress enough how important it is to use a light hand with the spices. Finish was semi-dry with the malt getting a chance to breathe as opposed to being choked off as in some iterations of the style.

Undated 12 oz bottle served in a snifter.

Pours clear, orange-copper color with a modest and weak bone-colored head.

Overall, spices are more subtle than in many pumpkin beers, but the cinnamon is more dominant. There is a clear suggestion of pumpkin pie along with a pronounced caramel malt component. Sweet but not cloying.

Feel: Light-medium body seems too thin; Medium, prickly carbonation. Slight heat from the cinnamon.

O: A tasty and solid pumpkin ale, but not up with the best of style.

Bottle > Chimay Glass

A - Pours a clear orange, less than half a finger of fizzy white head, no lacing.
S - Aroma is predominately a mix of cinnamon and pumpkin, a little bready malt, and a little spice underneath, nothing special, but not bad either.
T - Very ale-forward if you get my drift. The pumpkin and spice flavors are a little bit muddled in the mix, but about midway through the peek out, you get some pumpkin flavor, cinnamon, nutmeg, a nice dark herbal hop presence more towards the end with a little peppery taste.
M - More on the lighter side and a little watery.
O - Not a bad pumpkin, but not something I'd go out of my way to get, Its good for a outside session around a fire though, and Thats where I think it'd be best suited.

I've read this beer is made with real pumpkin and you can tell!
This ale pours with a nice orange pumpkin glow. It has a nice mild head of foam with moderate lacing on the glass. While perfectly carbonated, the bubbles float up through the ale keeping it crisp, fresh, yet comfortably delicious. In my opinion it has a near perfect appearance for pumpkin style beer/ales.

This pumpkin ale actually does have a nice real pumpkin aroma, with the slightest presence of autumn spice (cinnamon), followed by slight fruity notes of alcohol.

The taste of this ale is excellent. Continuing where the aromas left off, well balanced flavors begin with autumn spices, and as the liquid flows through the mouth, where a slight tartness, sweetness, and presence of carbonation and alcohol provide the slight burn of an alcoholic drink, the richness of pumpkin shines through and is left behind as the more volatile tastes mentioned early wisp smoothly away. Another sip begins the cycle all over again, leaving the consumer wanting another sip, and another...

The mouthfeel of this ale is slightly light for a pumpkin style ale. Sometimes I might prefer a heavier feel on cooler, October nights. However, the beer starts smooth, then bubbling burn, then smooth with pumpkin. Perfectly carbonated, slightly thin, but rich enough to warm the soul on a ghoulish evening of the autumn.

My overall rating of this pumpkin ale, considering it is one of the least expensive of the varieties available is excellent! It competes well among the others I've tried, and with real pumpkin (not just spice) this is the real deal! Pick up a pack and enjoy!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle in to a tulip glass.

A- The body is a transparent orange with a small white head and no lacing whatsoever.

S- The nose is quite lovely with lots of cinnamon and sweet, sugary notes.

T- Malty and sweet. Not a ton of pumpkin, but enough. The spices dominate here though.

M- The feel is quite thin, but the carbonation livens it up a bit. If it was slightly thicker and slightly less carbonated, it would be right on the money.

O- I don't mind pouring myself one of these when I'm in the mood for some fall seasonal brews. Nothing to seek specifically, but pretty decent.
