Second Ave just south of 14th street, NYC baby...Fun friendly place, equiped to satisfy the large screen and beer needs of hundreds of crazed sports fans, I visited just after the Michigan/Ohio State game was over and the Mich. faithfull were literally crying in their beer (again). Several quality taps including Bells (!) DT, AB, Bklyn, several Harpoons and some space wasters. Bottles were highlighted by Duvel, Chimay, Rogue, another Bells, Golden Monkey and a few others. Go for the game, enjoy the tubes (everywhere) the roomy feel and then hit the neighborfood for its vatiety of food choices and plentiful other bars, 5 mins to HDG, Standings, Burp, DBA, Essex et al...first Btender was CLUELESS, but had nice rackage, he he, so that makes "service" a toss up...

Went here with a group of friends while walking around the city. Went in as it opened, so it wasn't busy at all.
We ordered a round of picklebacks to get the night started (yuck, why do I hang out with these people), as some of the people in our group said it was a big thing of Professor Tom's. The bartender, who had no one else to serve but us, seemed visibly annoyed by this order and grunted and growled and was a general ass as he made the shots. We downed the shots and left- didn't want to stick around there any longer.
The beer selection seemed alright, but nothing special. Didn't order anything after being shafted by service. They seemed to have their own house brew, as well as a good line-up of Harpoon beers (it's a Red Sox bar, apparently)

Have been here a number of times due to friends living in the area. I would not classify this as a craft beer bar though they do have some decent selections. Really this is a Red Sox bar for NE transplants to the city. That can be a good or a bad thing depending on your allegiances.
The bar itself is two stories with the second level being a bit less crowded. The downstairs has tables with TV's and a long bar to the left. The crowd is generally early to mid twenties or NYU students.
Back to the beer, they usually have a couple of Harpoons on tap along with SNPA and a few American wheat offerings. Nothing to write home about. The major issue is that their tap lines always seem to be off, as if they don't clean them off. One of my bigger annoyances with any place.
Service can be good or bad depending on who is working but it never is outstanding and the beer knowledge is lacking.
If you are in the mood to hang out with some Boston fans by all means come down here. If you are looking for a beer bar, there are other establishments close by to get your fix like DBA, 12th St Ale, Drop Off Service, etc...

Stopped here while in the east village as part of craft beer week. YAY! A $3 ommegang beer. Awesome you say? That would be awesome if it turned out to be true. They had one Ommegang beer on tap, Hennepin. My friend is quite the fan of Hennepin and getting any Ommegang draft for $3 is great.
However, I showed my coupon to our server and she promptly informs us that the coupon is not for hennepin, but only for Harpoon UFO...lame
but we all order a beer (5 of us). they arrive. 1 is flat and the other 4 are off and most likely due to old or unclean lines. if i order a round and 1 beer is off i will send it back. going 5 for 5 shows me that this place doesn't do much craft beer business or no one cares that 4 different beers taste bad (a stone, 2 different harpoons, and 1 sierra nevada).
besides the bad beer i would say the music was a bit loud (though i may only think so because i didn't like their selection). they do have tvs at each booth, which may be a draw. This is a Boston beer and show every Celtic and Red Sox game. So I guess if you are in the east village and need to see a Red Sox game you can come here, but I would order liquor or just go for bottles

This is a decent sports-themed beer bar at the very northern edge of the east village. I believe it is just south of 14th street on 2nd ave.
It is actually easy to miss this place just due to the signage being somewhat discreet. I found it no problem at all when I was looking for it but when I went outside to make a phone call, I almost ended up going into the place next door to it which I believe is called Finnertys or Flahertys or something like that.
First things first, this is a Red Sox bar in lower Manhattan. I couldnt believe I kind of lucked into that as the reviews here on BA said nothing about it. Sure, they show Yankees games too because they have tons of TVs but it is geared towards my favorite baseball team and I gotta say my NY Yankee lovin' friend who I went with wasnt too happy about me bringing him to a Red Sox bar. I swore I was ignorant of this but he wasnt believing me (even though it weas true).
You enter and you walk down like 3 small steps into the place--bar off to the left --lots of hardwood floors and exposed bricks. A nice decent sized bar along the whole left side after you walk in.
The beer selection was decent but many of the craft offerings were just not really appropriate for the 95 degree heat we had outside that day. I did have a Southampton white ale but afer that I opted for Yuengling as it is not available in Boston and I didnt want anything that was too high in the abv department. Both were decent and not too expensive considering this is NYC. To view what other beers they have available, I'd advise checking their website as it does seem reasonably up to date.
The service was reasonably friendly and attentive. I didnt try any food but it looked okay. I would go back to this place for a sporting event in a second. Its a good sports bar. As far as being a good beer bar, yeah its decent but it aint gonna blow you away. Its basically a good sports bar with a far better than average beer selection than most other similar sports themed places.

Professor Jerry Thomas is, as legend has it, the "Father of the Cocktail and First Celebrity Bartender in America".
Half Beer bar, half Sports bar (with a New England slant). The bar and seating area is long and narrow. There are LCD screens all around, including some small ones for individual seating areas, plus a gigantic widescreen hanging on the back wall. There's a function room for private parties upstairs. The service is prompt and courteous. The waitress memorized the beer list (see below), with the exception of knowing which Bell's beer was on tap at the time. She rushed to the bar for confirmation! Our food (mostly from the appetizer menu) arrived tasty and hot. The Nachos were large enough for four hungry men. The hot wings were very spicy and had a near perfect crunchy, crisp skin and tender and meaty inside. The bar pizza was thin but crusty with a zesty sauce and plenty of well-tanned cheese on top.
Here's the draft list as of 11/5/06:
Harpoon O Fest
Magic Hat #9
Bell's Amber (ESB during my visit)
Ciders on Draft:
Rogue Hazelnut Ale
Rogue Shakespeare Stout
Lindeman's Lambic Ales
Victory Golden Monkey
Bell's Two-Hearted Ale
And many more...(some macros, blah)
My one minor complaint is that the music gets cranked up a bit at times during the night (Yeah, I'm an old fart)
It's unusual to hear the distinctive accents of so many Red Sox and Pats fans in attendance in this bah in the East Village, but once inside it's all-so-natural.
