I live in North Carolina, where we've gotten some great stores in the last few years with amazing selections (go with Sam's Blue Light or Brawley's if you're passing through). Needless to say, coming to visit my parents here a few times a year usually meant bringing decent beer with me that they can't find locally.

So it was quite a surprise when I stopped in Chan's PCB store yesterday to pick up a last-minute gift. A friend of mine has a goal of trying every Sam Adams, so whenever I'm somewhere new, I always look for the harder-to-find varieties for him. Lucky for me, they had the Imperial Pilsner which I haven't seen anywhere else. It was $10.49 for a 4-pack, which was a little high, but I guess it could have been worse. They've got a decent selection of Americans and Belgians, including (I think) the entire Rogue line. The mixed-6 cooler mentioned in a previous comment really isn't anything to write home about, but it's a nice touch.

They had just sold the last magnum of Anchor Steam's '07 Christmas Ale, which I was after for myself, but they said that the Destin location may have a couple left, so that's definitely on the agenda for tomorrow. Overall, this is the one bright spot in a town where the crappy beer flows through the streets. It'll give me somewhere fun to hang out while I'm here from now on!

Visiting from TX, on BA recommendations visited, They had nice selection of singles, found several beers looking for not available at home. Then talking to the staff was lead to General Zhukov and the push variant also a Wide Awake It's Morning by Funky Budda. The staff was knowledgable, friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend

I love Wine World, they have the best selection of craft beers I have found in the area. The store does feel a little crowded but I will deal with that for the huge selection of beers. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. My only gripe is that I am an hour away, although it is well worth the drive!

Attached to gastropub next door (The Craft Bar) which offers crowlers and growler fills from their tap list.

Service was lacking; friendly but no knowledge of beer inventory.

Store featured better than decent selection, but no Cantillon on hand. Walked out with Sixpoint Puff, Stillwater Yacht, Grimm Super Spruce, Green Bench Sunshine City, and Freigeist Geisterzug Gose Rhubarb from Braustelle. They also had quite a few meads, Ezekiel's Wheel from Burnt Hickory, one selection from NOLA, and a few from Funky Buddha that I saw.

Diamond in the rough! Smack dab in the middle of a huge concrete strip mall. Don't let the name fool you. Some pretty pricey options (I like to stay under $4 per bottle). Awesome German selection! The manager was very knowledgeable and helpful. Chatted for a half an hour.

Most of the reviews on this site are from the old location by Publix which was staffed by a different crew up until a couple of years ago. The new location does not have taps inside the store but it is attached to The Craft Bar which has 30 taps. The store has a ton of sours and a good mead selection along with the usual big craft brands. Best selection in PC area.

Go next door to Publix instead. Up from South Florida and this place is junk. The staff is horrible, mean and not helpful. Asked about certain beers, dude at store new nothing about beer and was not helpful. Guy Was on the phone laughing the whole time, not interested in me. I went next door to Publix and they have HUGE beer selection. Go there and do all your shopping. This place is lame.

Pitty cause this place had a good selection of beer just not to easy to find items end caps seemed abit dissholved and open cases in the alise.

But, it is the beach and I guess you have to expect a certain amount of dah!

I think they could offer a better price for a volume discount

We went here last Saturday. Workers seemed distracted, with golf on TV. Not much help. We knew what we wanted, did not drink any beers on tap. The few customers in the store were shopping on their own, I am used to some assistance in my shopping. I told my husband 'Kind of a rude place', he agreed. Being a nurse, I help people, but that is not a requirement here. The service was so lame. Seems sort of a snobish attitute, which I guess is expected in a expensive wine store. We will not be back unless we can't find good beers anyplace else.

This place was ridiculous. First off let me say, the only impressive thing about this place was their bottled beer selection. It was huge! But for me and my friends, who came in to have a few pints, this was a disaster. This was the start of a Saturday for me and some drinking buddies that were wanting to hit up some local places as I was in town for the weekend. My sister used to rave about this place last spring but warned me it has went down hill recently. Unfortunately, this was the worst stop of our day.

I have heard a lot about this place. Belgians, Stouts. Something like13 taps. The first problem is, is that they only have a few taps. And 3 of those were sitting empty. Several that I ordered were no longer in service, still on the menu, but empty??And they did not tap any additional kegs to replace them. Short guy with a beard said they will be putting some new kegs on soon. “Uh Hello, we are here now?” He had no personality and spent all the time we were there talking to some other employee who both seemed to be doing nothing. They did not care about us in the least. Second of all, every time I ordered a beer, I had to tell the "bartender" which beer I was ordering. I had to point him towards the beer I wanted. I have never experienced this before. The guy never had any idea what we wanted. He was pretty clueless.

Two of us got an IPA of which tasted like vegetable soup and a onion that was beyond its prime. This tells me that they don't keep fresh beers and that no one really cares how fresh their IPAs are. They just want to sell them. They have a ton of domestic beers in bottles and sold some while we were there, probably what they want to sell.

We went to cash out, and the checks for my brother and me were messed up. The only issue was that they put the wrong beer on his tab instead of mine.. Easy fix right?? Wrong!! Apparently no one in this establishment wanted to take our money. 3 minutes later the bearded fellow walks in carrying grocery bags! I guess he went grocery shopping instead of working. Plus the Beer menu had one of the Belgian beers at $6 and they were charging us $8? No one knew what was going on.

Also, I guess they do growler fills here, but I wouldn't suggest it, as they are skimping the customers about 4 to 6 ounces on the growler fills. No one even knows how to do this. No glass just some plastic milk jugs. Odd. This was a prime example of how a bar/business should not be run. No one knew what is going on, no one knows what beers they have on tap, no one knows what beers to pour, etc.. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had in a bar. I would not go back to drink here. I don’t know how this place got a positive review other than with their bottled beer which they have a large selection. My sister warned me, I should have listened. You will probably be disappointed as well.

Very happy to find Wine World only 6 miles from the condo. The service was outstanding. I was disappointed not to find 2XIPA but the gentleman assisting me was prompt to to point me in the direction of several other double or triple IPAs. I was not floored by their selection but I've been spoiled by the selection standards back in Athens, GA. Five Points Bottle etc. I also love the fact that they have beer on tap. He offered me several good samples and I can't wait to return to WW Wednesday evening for their beer tasting from 6-8. They have Jah*va stout on tap. ;)

Bottom-line: if you're in PCB and good beer is a must have then go to Wine World.

They are located on the Panama City Beach Pkwy by Publix and the best place to get good craft beer in Panama City, and most likely the best on the panhandle. They keep a good selection and it's always amazingly fresh, I've never had a problem getting a beer with a good date unlike I do at many other places. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, they also have a few tables with chairs along with a really good tap selection and even beer tastings every week on Wednesday starting at 6:00PM.

Wine World is the place to go for craft beer in Panama City. I'm from Louisiana, and I wanted to make sure I took the opportunity to pick up some good beer while I was in the area. The employees were really knowledgeable not only about the beer that they had in stock, but also about what beer we have in Louisiana and what's not available in the state. I spent a little over $100 and picked up a pretty good selection of beer.

One of the best parts is that they have about 10 pretty good beers on tap, so you can sample while you check out the selection. Definitely check out Wine World if you're in the area.

Past vacations at the Florida panhandle have provided great sand and sun, but not so great in the beer selection aspect. My, how times have changed. I was initially happy just to find Victory at the Winn Dixie and Publix, so I was floored to walk into this place. Excellent selection, particulary for the area, of U.S. micros, with some nice, hoppy, heavy hitters. An admirable cross-section of German and Belgian styles, as well. Growler fills from about 8 taps was a nice option, although I was not in a position to take advantage.

I love this place. I live in Panama City Beach and I love to hang out at Wine World. They have a fairly good selection, a really good choice of beers on tap, and a knowledgeable staff. It's a really relaxed atmosphere. Cool place to go get a draught and check out what's new on the shelves. All my favorites are here too. Drop by, grab a pint, pull up a chair and relax. There's a full selection of craft beers as well as imports and liquor too. There's usually a pitcher special too if you're in the mood to toss back a few, or just grab a 2 dollar PBR.

I visited Wine World while taking a lil vacation. I'm from FL. so much of the selection was on par with what is available 6 hours south. They run a very clean store with plenty of space to roam around. I was THRILLED to find some Cigar City on tap. I drank a pint of Maduro while browsing the store. Does it really get any better...drinking a gr8 brew while shopping for some?? Anyways, the selection was solid. Plenty of imports and good selection of terrapin, lagunitas, rouge, DFH, Bells, and Stone to name a few. I found some wake n bake and some terrapin side project still available. Bells java stout was also nice to see. They offer singles and everything on tap was available for growler fills. The staff was great. I spoke with Dan for over 15 minutes. He was very beer oriented and knew his stuff. He said that he is going to be getting more Cigar City in the bottles soon and that the locals were dying to get it. Dan informed me of the tastings that are held every Wednesday. Overall just a great place, with a nice atmosphere, great prices, and friendly staff. A must stop if u are gonna be in the area.

This location is in the Publix shopping center on back beach road. It moved to this location from middle beach road and they added taps. What more could you ask for. Grab a draft and shop a great selection of beer. The draft choices are great with up to 10 or 12 beers to choose from most of the time ranging from Belgian beers to polish pilsners. They've had St Bernardus, Dupont Saison, Reudrich's Red, Hobgoblin, etc. They are constantly rotated so that each time I go in, I can usually find a new beer to try. I would definitely not have had some of the great world class beers that I've had on draft if it wasn't for Wine World Panama City. It is a bit pricey, but it is balanced by having a great selection of beer. The tap selection alone is worth the higher price of doing business. Please support them so I can continue by beer habit!

When it comes to craft beer in Panama City Beach there is no other place to go. The selection here is unrivaled in most of the Panhandle. They have a great selection such as Bells, Oskar Blues, Sweetwater, Terrapin, Stone, DFH and others. I would venture to say that this is the largest selection in the entire Panhandle. You can also get singles, 6 packs or cases. The cool thing is they also serve draft beer so you can get beer to go in growlers(Florida doesn't do half gallons though) or you can sample beers while you shop. Dan or Daric are great guys to talk to and can help you with anything you need. If you're in the Panhandle you MUST get your beer here.

They just installed a 12-beer tap system and those beers are poured into the correct glassware for their style! The tap beers are varied and reasonably priced. They will soon be offering growlers

They have a beer tasting on Wednesday night from 6-8 that turns out well and makes for a great start to the evening. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Great place.

Visited while on vacation in PCB. This is pretty much the only place of its kind in the area, considering the "spring break" culture that reigns supreme even in the off season. However, this place was a very pleasant surprise. They had a solid lineup of Stone, DFH, Terrapin, Bell's, and a nice selection of Belgian brews as well. Picked up some Oskar Blues and DFH 120...nice treats for us Ohioans!

The staff there was great. Very friendly and knowledgeable and even invited me back for a beer tasting the store was hosting that night. Overall a great place that I would definitely visit again if I'm ever back in the area.

Hey,

I live in Panama City Beach, FL and Wine World has the best selection around. The staff is friendly, they try to keep up with the latest and newest brews, but limited in certain areas.
I think for this area, that has no beer culture, they do very well. The prices here are a little steep, but once again, there is no beer culture. So, they have to make a living somehow. Wine World does give great variety in the area. Just a reminder, most people who visit the Emerald Coast are looking for Corona or Natural Light. If you are visiting and looking for the best selection of beer, there it is.

Nice wide open store, very well lit and mostly about wine. There's about 3 two sided shelves of beer. Good amount of Dogfish Head and a few Stone brews. Nice selection of Belgians as well. A cooler is devoted to pretty much the same brews that are warm on the shelf.
Only one guy behind the counter and he was helpful and really seemed interested in beer. He was definitely hyped that I was going to review the place on BA.
It was a bit pricey but I think it's not his fault, it's Florida's tax base on beer. Everything was $2 more than what I pay in Ohio but compared to every other place I've visited here in Panama City, this place is by far the best. Highly recommended if you're in the area and want something besides BMC.

this place was great when I was on vacation summer '08. I ended up driving way too far to find a place that was actually right next door to the rear entrance of the condominium complex I was staying at (like anyone cares). Anyway, great stock of German pilsners and dunkels. Plenty of domestic crafts as well as an import selection that occasionally strays past the usuals. For those that care, they have a really strong wine selection as well.

We live in a beer desert in South Alabama. Bottle size laws, strength limits and general beer ignorance really limit the selection. Panama City is a reasonable drive and we recently discovered Wine World after being impressed with their location in Destin, Florida.

This store is fantastic. The selection is very good, the prices very reasonable and the people really friendly. We purchased over $200.00 worth of beer on our first visit for the Christmass holidays, and every beer was in excellent condition. No old or stale or oxidizizd bottles in the batch.

The staff is very beer geek friendly and knowledgeable. There are tastings on Wednesday evenings, the beers displayed for the next tasting were holiday Belgian Ales, wish we could have stayed but we had already selected the same beers for purchase.

In all of North Florida this is now our #1 stop.

Plan on going at lunch time and getting a pizza next door and a beer in Wine World and sit at their tables provided just for this purpose.

Store was very organized and very clean. I couldn't find an out-of-date beer in the place.

The owner was available, friendly, and willing to answer any beer questions.

The selection was the best I'd seen in the area. As a Midwesterner I was thrilled to find new beers such as Terrapin and Sweetwater. Mmm, those are good beers. They also had a nice mix of Belgians to go along with some other nice beers like SN Anniversary and Sam Adams Imperial Pilsner. They also have one cooler set aside for making your own six. I like that.

Prices seemed reasonable with what I can find up north.

I live in Panama City and as stickygreen posted it's difficult to find good beers here. Maybe not quite as dire as he said but pretty bad. Prior to Chans I had found only 1 store that didn't consider their Heinekens and Blue Moons to be exotic imports. The selection was fairly good but somewhat limited at store X. Chans was a godsend for quality beer lovers but a catastrophe for my MasterCard. Not that their expensive but that I can't bring myself to leave without going overboard.

The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Ready to give recommendations to established quality beer drinkers as well as to the guy I saw there on my last visit who's normal beer of choice was Bud Lite.

I'm heading out there in a few hours for their 1st Beer, Blues & BBQ Festival. Hopefully the tastings will help me find a few new favorites.

PC Beach's Wine World sounds uninviting for a Beer Advocate, but let me tell you this is an oasis in a sea of cheap liquor stores that plague the Panama City Beach area. There are approximately 75 varieties of craft brew here, and they're reasonably priced. The store manager, Bill Ingram, was more than helpful at pointing me in the right direction of the brew, and showed me their walk-in fridge with stand alone bottles, to create your own blend of 6 packs. This is a relatively new store and only opened in August, so it hasn't gained a lot of popularity yet. If you vacate over here to PC Beach stop in and check it out.
