This beer was ok.
Poured dark with a thick, but quickly dissipating head. When held to the light, looked dark red.
I could barely smell this beer. Hint of fruit maybe, but really just not a lot of aroma.
Tasted kind of like teriyaki with a bit of chocolate and coffee. Not bad, not great.
Easy to drink, light in the mouth, goes down easy.

On-tap at the Brick Store.
Pours an opaque purplish-brown color with a one-finger tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.
Smells of sweet malts with good amounts of tart green apples and slight hints of smoke.
Tastes similar to how it smells. Rustic dark malt flavors up front are soon overtaken by tart and overripe fruit - mostly green apples but with hints of red grapes. A very slight smokiness enters in right before a muddled ending.
Mouthfeel is OK. It's got a solid thickness however the carbonation is a bit overactive.
Drinkability is alright. I finished my glass however I'm not sure about another.
Overall this was an interesting beer but not good nor interesting enough to make me want another. Another odd beer from Wintercoat.

On tap at Cole's. Introduced to me as an alt. Opaque dark colour with a good head. Essentially the sourish finish dominates. Above average mouthfeel. Very complex, sourish with the smoke characteristics and some dark fruit in the secondary. Leaves lace. A pint is a full meal.

A- Poured into a snifter. Pours a dark brown color with a light tan head that possesses excellent retention and lacing.
S- The aroma is some sweet malt and hints of caramel with some berries and spices as well.
T- The taste features some sweet malt and caramel with a touch of smoke with very little in terms of hops.
M- The mouthfeel is lighter bodied with a good amount of carbonation.
D- Not too bad, this is a pretty decent beer that is worth a shot. Not something that I would drink every night of the week, but definitely something different from the norm.

A-dark brown color almost red
H- thin not much lingering foam
S-almond, pine and smoke
T- smokey, highly carbonated, not too heavy. Fresh pine tree.
I- reminds me of smoke beer. Not as smokey as Aecht Schlenkerla
Rauchbier but it's there none the less. Share it with a friend it's
alot to take on alone.

The beer poured a dark amber with an off white head. The aroma was of dark fruits and just a little malt. The flavor was a very nice mix of dark fruits over malt. The feel was medium and dry. This was one of those beers you choose because it sounds different. I was in Max's in Baltimore and saw it on the board and thought I'd give it a try. I was quite impressed, a very nice strong beer.

This beer is a bit disappointing. It is also the most carbonated beer I think I've ever had, with a head that just pours over the bottle when the top is popped. The efforvescence is just running wild and it gets in the way of the mouthfeel. This also is a far cry from a winter warmer, it is an odd melange of things, but it really isn't a winter warmer. The beer pours a very hazy brown with fine particulates. The head is super fizzy, no lacing. The nose is a touch spicy, maybe some bark like aromas, maybe some wild berry in there too.
The consistency is just too carbonated and fizzy. The beer's malty mid section is overwhelmed by the spices. The brown and crystal malts are just outdone by everything else going on with this beer. I'm getting some juniper berry, some slight ginger flavors, maybe some anise, some bark like slightly smoked peat flavors. This beer really isn't all that good. I'm disappointed, given the price.

Hazy amber color with an off-white head. There was a peculiar aroma - both biscuit malt w/ a touch of caramel, and a minty smell not unlike menthol. The flavor was a crisp minty (Noxzema?) note oddly mixed with peat to form a strange, but interesting medicinal quality that was yet smooth and gentle. This flavor is born out on the finish and the whole thing feels somewhat light to medium bodied. This beer was an intellectual treat, but did not manage to touch any of my inner beer comfort buttons.

Had this on tap at the Brick Store Pub, served in a little snifter. The beer was dark brown, murky and opaque, with a thin tan foam. The aroma is smoky and a little sour like over-ripe fruit. Lots of peat smoke in the taste, a sour bute in the aftertaste, kind of odd really. The winter warmer style isn't really a style in my experience, seems sort of like a catch-all name, and this is one of the strange versions. I won't be looking to try it again.

A: Very dark brown, with a decently sizable head, good lacing.
S/T: Absolute smoke-bomb with good hazelnut and coffee supporting it. It's really like a nutty smoked salami. It's got a slight herbal support, too.
M/D: It's a bit aggressive, but it has its novelty. It's a relatively one-note kind of beer, but it's drinkable. I don't regret ordering it, but I'm not going out of my way for it, either.

Reviewed on 6/22/08. On tap at the Ginger Man. Pours a light orange with a small head. This is an odd, awful beer. Aroma and flavor of mold, chapstick, must, hard alcohol (whiskey). Sort of like walking into an attic where things have been molding and rotting for a few years. Simply disgusting.

On tap tonight at Deep Ellum. Served in a stemmed glass. Shoe leather brown color. Thin white head. Smell was a bit like pine and ash. "Different" flavor to this beer. Peaty smoke, juniper berry, pine needle, and cloves were what I tasted. Very unusual to say the least. Body was somewhat on the thin side. A bit malty, no real hop profile. Worth a try from a brewery that I'm not familiar with, but not a beer I'd order again.
