I was somewhat surprised to see that someone had added this place to Beerfly [but no review]. Since I was going to Middletown, I figured I'd add a review of this place. I hadn't been here in 20 years, but it was a regular stop back in the day.

This place is like someone's garage. Smells of stale beer, has a garage door for loading kegs, etc. and the whole middle of the relatively small place is stacked high with cases of beer. Obviously, the place is based on quantity, not quality.

Very conveniently located with a few parking spaces. When you walk in, on the left is a series of beer fridges. Don't bother with these, as it is all macros. But, on the opposite wall [which is hard to see over all the beer cases] is another set of fridges that has a bunch of micros [Stone, magic Hat, Ommegang, Brooklyn, Duinen, Aflligem, Sam Adams, Samuel Smiths, etc]. I was surprised at the good selection, though there is no real organization to it [you can find malt liquor in the last fridge!]. Also some shelving near the fridges that had some more selection of micros.

Anyway, if you are in Middletown and need a beer, this is a good place to go. Fight your way through the smell and piles of cases of beer to find the micro fridges.

This place smells awful andThe owner is very unfriendly, Even though there is a pretty decent selection, The place has a lot of Micros, Dogfish Head, Sierra Nevada, Rogue, etc. The two big downfalls is most of the beer is old or expired, I was in there this month and saw some micros with best by dates in 2009, which is completely unacceptable, I have even found Macros with a best by date over 6 months expired, so I tend to avoid this place, The 2nd thing is talk about stingy if your change is 77 cent you will be getting 75, He's done this to me several times and for this reason, I have decided to avoid this place. Especially with the local Shoprite which now has a craft beer section. Very bad business.

Despite a relatively convenient location, there really isn't too much to recommend here. In terms of first impressions there is little parking and the inside (as previously mentioned) smells badly. The micros are all the way to the right inside the store, in both the fridge and the wall. While they do have a fairly nice selection of micros (Sam Adams, Ommegang, Brooklyn, Cooperstown, Dogfish Head, Stone, Magic Hat, Sierra Nevada), there is no rhyme or reason to their placement. Some of them are actually hard to get to due to cases near the garage door. The prices are usually not displayed, and has caused me to pay high amounts for things that I could have gotten cheaper elsewhere ($12 for a 4 pack of DFH 90 minute IPA). There are nicer places to get beer locally.

This place has been a mainstay in Middletown since I can remember. It is well located but has very little parking.

This place definitely caters to the macrobrewery but has been developing a craft beer selection over the past few years. The good beer is hard to see as a previous reviewer has said. Be careful of dusty 6-packs but otherwise good selection of styles and locations.

However if your in the market for a 30-rack or slightly better prices than the supermarket this is your place.

The owners are pretty good and will sometimes make special orders for you.

I checked out this place on a shopping trip to Middletown. I had read the previous of this place so I didn't really get my hopes up. The place wasn't actually that bad. The selection seems to have gotten a little better since the last review. The had the typical stuff U.S. (Brooklyn, Troeggs, Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams) A few from the U.K. (Sam Smith, Fuller's) Gremany (Franziskaner, Spaten, Lowenbrau) And a few Belgians. It looked like they are trying to build up the craft beer stock so they might be worth checking out if your in the area or maybe a trip in the near future.
