Cross the street from the Bronx's Van cortland park, nice views from the upstairs dining room.

Nice wooden bar in front of you as soon as you enter, beer selections on boards behind the bar and on a well done and informative paper beer menu. Semi upscale athmosphere, but remember its the Bronx, so nothing too pretensious. Decent place for a date.

About 9 mostly quality taps, with the likes of Captain Larry, Arcadia, Southampton, Monks Flemish sour, Founders, Blue Point all offering selections when I visited. 24 craft bottles, nice options from ithica, more CL SouthHampton, Keegan, Horseheads (havent seen this NY state brewery anywhere else in the city) and then typical, but quality Belgians. They also stock 12 of what they call the "usual suspects" Bud, Bud light , Heine, etc

What can you say about a place that has obvious quality beer options but then tries to serve it to you a frozen pint glass? C'mon now, I guess some of their customers like it that way, oh well....in a tough beer area like the Bronx, this place is making a great effort to stock the good stuff and respect beer. Worth a try for a hearty meal and real beer.

It's easy to forget the Yonkers shop, so everyone does ('cept me, of course). A small one man show in the lower corner of Westchester, it doesn't get much attention, though Steve could brag to be the last man standing, if only there were anyone to brag to (I've just got no heart for this anymore). We never find the time to get anything done when I'm there. We're constantly on one call or another, or he's out on the road or putting out fires otherwise. Sure, we can actually talk through everything if I want to hang around until all hours once everyone's gone home, so sometimes that's just what I do. Have you eaten? Yeah, me neither. Let me jingle the change in my pocket to see if I've got a company dime, yep, I do. But if we're doing din, I'm upgrading from your favorite crappy diner over by the racetrack to a steak at Jake's...

Ryan's been going on about this place for months so fielding a call from him about 3 minutes before I head out the door to go there is about as freaky as it gets. After calling me in a table, he hits me back with "There's an '05 Abbot 12 waiting for you". Nice! We were valeted and hardly barside before being quickly tabled upstairs. 18 red leather booths and green clothed tables with small oil candles on the upper floor. Gourds and Autumn play on the sills, a few pieces of framed western artwork, wall mounted baby lamps, duct work and drop bell lighting overhead. Slant front ceiling, large forward picture windows overlooking Van Cortlandt Park, brick walls over wood slat lowers and yellow sponge painted towards a rear framed room divider with center window pieces. Nestled between floors to the rear, halfway up or down the winded staircase sporting a large statue of a man on horseback, something of a private party room with seating for at least 20.

Perused the menu some and thought how much better it looked than the diner's. We ordered up the jumbo shrimp sautéed in a garlic cream sauce and the crabcakes served with a chipotle pepper sauce. The shrimp were very good but the crabcakes were massive lump crabmeat incredible. And let me get a T-Bone, um, medium please, no, make that a pair of T-Bones, medium. Fooled nobody by adding a side of steamed broccoli and pretending it was all good for me, and Steve added a jumbo baked potato. "That thing was beyond jumbo, it was nearly the size of the steak", he said, "I had to ask for more butter 'cause what they gave me wasn't going to cover that thing".

Oh, and drink. James was sitting on that Abbot 12 for me, but Steve's not really a beer guy and I didn't think he'd survive it so I switched up to a bottle of Ithaca White Gold. I thought it was a good choice, and he really seemed to like it. The T-Bones were excellent; wet aged in-house and cut off the bone Luger style. Peggy's got the hook on the serious steaks.

Dropped downstairs for a beer after dinner. An "L" shaped wood bar on the far wall seats a dozen and a half, the barback holding shelved booze over paneled mirrors, glass front cupboards with specialty bottles, and tiered booze below. A center flatscreen above a mirrored back Glen Morangie display, statues to both sides and smaller TV's at both ends of the bar. 3 booths lie adjacent to the bar, and 4 tables in the forward rounded nook below the tall front windows. Yellow sponge painted walls over wood lowers as upstairs, cowboys on horseback and Indian prints, drop lamps over the bar and center chandeliers.

9 taps, soon to be 10, on a copper rail tower on the bar. Some good local (Captain Lawrence Pale Ale, Southampton IPA, Blue Point Octoberfest), and regional selections (Sly Fox Incubus, Legacy Hedonism, Arcadia Scotch Ale), and imports (Unibroue Maudite & Blanche De Chambly, Guinness).

Also, at least 20 bottles of note, a good deal of them from New York State (Captain Lawrence Nor' Easter & St. Vincent's Dubbel; Southampton Abbot 12, Saison Deluxe, 10th Anniversary & Old Herb; Ithaca White Gold & IPAbbey; Ommegang Rare Vos, 3 Philosophers & Witte; Wagner Valley Sled Dog Dopplebock, Keegans Mother's Milk Stout), a single regional (Victory Prima Pils), and a handful of imports (Schneider Weisse, Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier, Unibroue La Fin Du Monde & Quelque Chose, St. Bernardus Abt 12, Orkney Skull Splitter). Plus a dozen macros housed in ice chests below the bar, and I think they're holding about 60 wines in all.

Good drink, great food. Been around some, don't think I've seen a steakhouse with a focus on their beer selection 'til now. Really not a lot of anything going on in the Bronx beerwise 'cept Jake's, and, um, might I suggest a T-Bone to wash it down with.

Jake's was a bit pricey, but this place is the real deal. sat on the second floor next to a 12 foot long window overlooking Van Courtland Park. Beautiful view if u ever get a chance. great area near manhattan college. They have amazing fine steaks. i had the porterhouse. biggest porterhouse Ive ever eaten. get it just for the filet half. i cut it with my fork. cooked medium rare. they cut it up for you...mouthwatering steak..so delicious. stay away from the steak sauce because it tastes like kraft bbq sauce. I had a great apa " from the St. Lawrence brewery in upstate Pleasantville. also had some tasty sides, dirty mashed, onions and sweet potatoe bites. a great place for drinks and steak

Without a doubt the best beer selection in the Bronx!! They have a great draft selection, offering at least 3 New York micro brews on tap at all times as well as a great bottle selection. Right now they are pouring South Hampton, Ommegang, Coppertown and Captain Lawrence all from New York as well as a few others. If you find yourself in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and need a good brew this is the place. Knowledgable staff and fresh local beer, does it get any better...oh yea the steaks are out of this world.

Jake's Steakhouse, in the Bronx, has excellent steaks and beef, including fine burgers and steak sandwiches. Also terrific pork ribs and chops, and rack of lamb. For the less relentlessly carnivorous, there is pasta and seafood. Great for a long dinner or a casual lunch. Prices are moderate to appropriate for prime meat, and the service is pretty darn good. You can actually park without circling the block.

Three levels with a street level bar, cozy atmosphere, nice booths, wooden walls, across from Van Cortland Park and its golf courses. Valet parking if you desire.

Currently has a growing selection of New York brewed beers and is working on more. Have suggestions? Give James Shelly, the general manager, some advice. He'll be happy to talk beer with you.

Some beers currently available: Ommegang, Southampton, and other NY beers. Also Sam Adams, Guiness, Harp, Bass.
