This place has been on Food Network and Man vs. Food, so I had to go when I visited Cleveland. My girlfriend and I were shocked to find that the wait as over an hour when we got at 7:30 on a MONDAY. However, we took this to mean that the food was probably worth the wait and stuck it out.

Melt is a pretty small place and appears that it isn't quite ready to handle the immense amounts of business it gets. It looks like it was once just a typical bar and when they got famous they just tried to cram as many tables in as they could (which isn't really that many). The bar's great beer selection made is easier to wait: Founders, Stone, Abitta, Bell's, Dogfish, and many others on tap, along with a decent bottle list. When we finally got seated the food was also worth the wait. I got the Wake and Bacon and it was quite good - pretty much a grilled cheese breakfast sandwich. The service was friendly and prompt as well. While I was there I also saw someone at the bar get the 3 lb grilled cheese sandwich that Adam Richman attempted to eat on Man vs. Food. I had difficulty finishing my normal sized sandwich (the bread is HUGE!), so I can't even imagine trying to eat that much cheese. Overall, I'd say this is a pretty cool place to grab a beer and dinner; if you're willing to wait that is. Prices were very good too! (1,325 characters)

This review concerns the Melt location on Lee Road in Cleveland Heights and may not apply to the Lakewood location, although if it is the same company, one could assume that the same operating procedures are in place. And those procedures are CHEATER PINTS. Enough said, right? As I've stated in other reviews, CHEATER PINTS are a conscious, calculated decision to short-shrift the consumer, to take more of your money for less of their product. The beer selection is solid. The food is waaaay above average, awesome even, but CHEATER PINTS are CHEATER PINTS, and anyone who is interested in a fair exchange should avoid places that SERVE BEER IN CHEATER PINTS. (661 characters)

When I visited: May 2012.

What I had: Victory Throwback Lager (draught), 21st Amendment Back In Black IPA (can), Three Floyds Alpha King (draught), Peanut Butter & Banana Grilled Cream Cheese Sandwich, Hot Italian Sandwich, soup of the day, coleslaw, fries, wine and cocktail for my better half.

What I liked: approachable downmarket atmosphere, crowd minds their own, cool signs and memorabilia on the walls, redonkulous sammies, excellent taps, a few rarities in bottles/cans, waiter made great food recos, dirt cheap prices ($40 for everything we had).

What I disliked: Guinness and two ciders detract from an otherwise perfect draught list, but that’s a minor quibble.

Would I go back? Absolutely.

Ate lunch here on our way through Cleveland. Had seen it on Man vs. Food tv show, and come for the food. Didn't realize their crazy huge beer list until we go here.

They had about 15 beers on tap, and then pages and pages of bottled beer. All good craft selections.

Service was fine, our waiter forgot my wife's drink for awhile, so it was on the house. We had some of their famous crazy grilled cheese sandwiches, were were huge and tasty. I had a bacon egg and cheese version, by wife had a peanut butter banana cheese one.

Definitely a unique place and one I would stop at again (587 characters)

(Visited 03/2011): This location of Melt is in Lakewood on Detroit Ave north of I-90. Street parking is available in the surrounding area.

The interior is comfy, made more so by the seemingly endless crowds trying to get in. The bar is on the right side after weaving through tightly packed tables. We were quoted a 2+ hour wait but thanks to my friend being on crutches we were able to get a couple sympathy seats at the bar pretty quickly. Cool blue tin ceiling with hanging star-shaped lights. Precarious journey downstairs to the restrooms.

The beer selection is solid, with around 20 taps with beers from Rooster Fish, DFH, Bells, Southern Tier and Stone. The bottled selection exceeds 100 with many NE Ohio brewers represented such as Hoppin' Frog, GLBC, Thirsty Dog etc. Other craft brewers such as Rogue, Stone, and the like, plus a good amount of imports.

Service was about as good as could be expected given how busy it was. With all the production around the challenge the bartender did a good job with refills and beer knowledge.

Food is the main draw at Melt, and they deliver in spades. My friend took the Melt Challenge and didn't make it 1/3 of the way through, but he got 3 delicious meals out of the deal. My sandwich was excellent as well.

Overall this place is pretty amazing although I would recommend going at an off time. (1,350 characters)

This place is a must when you're in the Cleveland area. The atmosphere is like a cool tattoo parlor with a 50's greaser vibe. The service is solid and I've never had any issues.

The beer tap list can vary but for the most part is always very good. They have a pretty cool bottle list as well that has new stuff added.

The food is where it is at though. You must go here no matter what as the grilled cheese menu is out of this world. It has every crazy type of grille dcheese you can dream of. Fat people will love it, but most people will want to split a meal to save room for beer.

All in all, you have to hit this place if you're in the Cleveland area. (658 characters)

a: Very cool place with unique decorations. Where can you find big plastic pumpkins, vampires, easter bunnies, and santa at one place in May? Melt! The menus are on old record covers too, and just a cool look as a whole. Cooler atmosphere than the Cleveland Heights location.

q: Superb for both beer and food. This location does not have as many taps as the Cleveland Heights location, but everything is high quality.

serv: decent, but nearly always quite a long wait.

sel: very nice beer selection, with several options for varietals.

food: Best grilled sandwiches I've ever had!

val: Very good for the price.

If you haven't been here and you are in Northeast Ohio for whatever reason, you should absolutely stop in! (723 characters)

Stopped in here on the way to Rozi's, which is just a block over (tip: if there's a line, like there probably will be, put your name on the list and walk over to Rozi's- you'll have plenty of time to check their beer selection out in the meantime).

The atmosphere at Melt is pretty enjoyable- lots of campy holiday decorations all over the place, 80s movies/VH1 Classics playing, and menus made out of old record sleeves.

Beer selection is pretty good; 15-20 taps (most of them garnering high reviews here on BA) and probably around 100 bottles in addition to that. Some of the bottle prices are a little sketchy, but not much more so than any other restaurant. Tap prices are very reasonable.

Still, the heart of the reason why you go to Melt (at least if you're not from the area) is for the food. Outstanding grilled cheese sandwiches made any way you could want- if you're in Cleveland, don't miss out on one of them. The only drawback is that it's a bit of a wait from order to when your food arrives (an hour or so). Bar staff service is good though, with fairly knowledgeable bartenders in my experience, and prompt refills. (1,134 characters)

coming back from seeing primus my gf wanted to stop here really bad after seeing it on man vs. food. all i have to say is this place rocks and accomadates the beer fans. they have old school haggard holiday light up lawn ornimates all around. the waitstaff were really friendly and down to earth. they had maybe 20 different beers on tap which were prolly one of the best selections i've ever seen. and for some reason if you didn't like one of them they had a very nice selection in bottles. i ordered the 2Xipa from southern tier which was amazing with the melt burger. i ordered it with pepper jack cheese, goat cheese, and grilled onions. one of the best burgers i've had! the gf ordered some crab cake melt and said it was really good. for $4 a pint of the 2Xipa and not even on special is alright with me. when we go back to cleveland this place will definitely be hit up again. the only thing negative i can say about the place was that they charge $12 a pint glass which even the waitress thought was retarded. but being such a awesome place with great food i couldn't refuse.

PS- this place is a cheese lover's paradise. (1,131 characters)

Reviewed from notes. Visited on 12/21.

We stopped in around 5:00 PM on a whim after hitting up Rozi's. They were still doing their happy hour($1 off any drink). My friend and I each ordered a Fade To Black for $3.

They had a pretty extensive beer menu with about 10-12 taps with the most pedestrian being Guinness.

The food looked great, although we didn't try any as we had other dinner plans.

Our bartender was friendly and helpful, although not overbearing as some can be in beer-centric restaurants/bars. He also didn't belittle anyone for ordering a BMC product.

Overall, this was a pretty fun place to go for a quick beer and I would love to get back to try the food. (682 characters)

WOW! That's the first thing that comes to mind. This place is delicious and incredible and I will be going back MANY times.

The atmosphere was surprising. I figured going on a Wednesday evening meant that we'd have an easy time getting a table. When we got there, though, the place was hoppin'. There were people everywhere waiting around for their table with beers in hand. We had a 45 minute wait for a table, so we decided to find a spot at the bar instead. That was full, so we ordered drinks (fresh two hearted on tap and ST Pumking for my partner, also on tap) and waited for about 10 minutes until one of the employees found us a spot to wiggle into at the bar. The setup was great. There were signs everywhere about the sandwich of the month and the new pumpkin beers they had just received. I would recommend sitting at the bar by one of their beer coolers so that you can stare in awe at their bottle selection.

Now. The beer. There were 10+ taps, including those I mentioned earlier and other Oktoberfest/pumpkin beers, Left Hand, DFH, Guinness, Breckenridge, and others. Their bottles included everything from Stone and Bear Republic bombers to Chimay and Aventinus, up to 12oz of beers from every brewery I could think of finding in Ohio. Great Lakes, Shipyard, Left Hand, Harpoon, and sooo many others. I was sitting by one cooler, and the bartender at some point told us they just kept building coolers because of all the beer they're bringing in. The beers were FRESH. They are continually rotating their taps and bottles, and even as we were sitting there, one of the employees was putting new drink lists into the menus. They divide their selection into style, which can be helpful for folks who know what they like. Other than Two Hearted on tap, I had a Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier (bottle). I could have stayed there all day and had beers. And their food? Well, read on...

The best sandwich I've ever had. Hands down. It was the special called the "Soul Vegetarian", with fried green tomatoes and jalapeno cornbread IN the sandwich, not as a side. Their fries are perfect, and their cole slaw isn't smothered in nasty mayo. My partner got the Diablo, which was a veggie burger smothered in all kinds of spices and peppers. They were both out of this world, and the portions are massive.

Even though there were a ton of people there, the service was spot on. Not only did one of the hostesses squeeze us into the bar the first chance she got, but the bartender served us quickly and was really attentive and friendly to boot. It didn't take long at all for our dishes to come out, which was surprising considering how busy they were.

What more can I say? If you haven't been to Melt, you need to go. If you don't like big crowds, I'd imagine you should go on a weekday afternoon. The prices on their beers are totally reasonable, and it would be easy to sit there and go lost in their selection all day long. I look forward to returning as a loyal patron! (2,983 characters)

AMAZING! I had this place marked off from researching my Cleveland trip on BA and about 3 locals said we had to get there. We made the trip, and are sooo glad we got there. The beers were great! The selection was more than I expected when I saw the size of the place, I started with a Stone Ruination and a Belles Two Hearted IPA.

The sandwiches will just blow you away, we ordered 2 and shared them and won't soon forget how good they tasted!

The bartenders and staff were all personable and made us feel at home.

You must go here if you are in the Cleveland area! (568 characters)

Went to this place on a saturday night, arrived around 6:30. We were informed by the host that we had an hour wait for a table. While waiting we made it to the bar for some beers. Had a nice selection on tap. Did not look at how many bottles, the tap selection was good. My wife had a few rodenbachs while I had a few troegs pales. We finallly got seated around 7:45. We promptly ordered our sandwiches and another round of brews. The beer was delivered quickly, the food was another story. We easily sat for another hour before our food arrived. The food was tasty and filling, but not worth spending over 2 hours waiting for. Granted it was a sat night, but I have never waited this long anywhere else during peek times. If you go, hit it when it is not prime time. (767 characters)

This Joint is really an excellent stop when you're in cleveland. It's a very organic indie feel and the simple theme to the restaurant is pretty much, "if it feels good, do it."

With Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and nearly every member of the staff with tattoos as entertaining as the words that come out of their mouthes, this place is the bar you wish you owned.

The bees on tap are all craft or import and the bottle selection is VERY obscure on both the import and micro side. I had enjoyed a nitro old rasputin and geuze boon. The staff is fairly knowledgeable but that's miles ahead of most places. (611 characters)
