The aroma is really nice (by far the best part of the beer), a nice balance of oaky and sour tannins with some roastiness and bitter chocolate. Unfortunately, the flavor does not follow suit, as it is totally dominated by the sour wine barrel notes, and not in a pleasant way. Really tough to finish. Bottom line for me when reviewing a beer was how much did I enjoy drinking the beer (and sometimes even mediocre beers can be drinkable and enjoyable), but this one was definitely kind of unpleasant. I ended up blending this with some Stone IRS to give it some body and cut down on the wine notes, which improved the experience tremendously. Out of the Strange Cargo series that I have had, I really enjoyed the Knight Night alot, but the others including this one, not so much.

Pours a very dark brown with a small, creamy ring of a head. Aroma is quite oxidized at the start...spicy wood, brown bread, a little chocolate. Flavors of oak barrel, vinous fruit, sherry, cherries, and lingering brown bread. Tart on the tongue, creamy medium-plus bodied, and decently dry. I don't know...a little too much oxidation which covers up any complexity. Underneath there's a spiced, fruity character that blends with some caramel that's pretty nice, but the balance isn't there.
