Formerly Bad Penny
This lovely brown ale is a fine tribute to the classic British browns, with a surprisingly full palate of flavors and a soft, fluffy effervescence that fills the mouth. A touch of caramel, a bit of chocolate and hints of dark fruit make this brown enticingly complex, while the round finish that lingers just long enough encourages me to take another sip. I’d love this with a ploughman’s platter of fine English cheeses and breads

From a bottle.
Lightly sweet with a mild but lingering flavor.
Medium-light body may be slightly over carbonated and thin.
Overall: A good, mainstream brown ale.

Orange is brown slightly hazy with lots of bubbles and one finger of off white head. Smells of toasted notes, taste of toasted and nutty. No, it’s with a rusty flavor. My body with very high carbonation. I got this in Concord North Carolina August 1, 2023.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is brown, head is off white/very light tan, head presents 1/4 inch thick or so and dissipates to nothing but slight ring.
Smell is light roast and chocolate malt, some light caramel, toast, light hops and bitterness.
Taste is similar with light roast, chocolate malt, toast and very light caramel, hops are neutral for the most part with some light grass and earth.
Mouthfeel is low/moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, moderate bitterness, lingering sweet/bitter feel in line with a moderate strength brown ale.
Overall a very nice brown ale - moderate sweetness, good balance of chocolate and roast, and light/moderate bitterness to counter.

Hard to believe that I've not reviewed this beer until now, having had it many, many times over the years in a variety of setting including Hurricane Hockey games, cookouts etc.
Drinking this at one of my favorite tap rooms Tapped Craft and Drafts in Greenville NC.
Poured from a tap into a pint glass.
Looks dark brown, with a nice offwhite foamy head that dropped quickly to a thin cap.
Smells lightly bready, chocolate, caramel.
Taste follows the nose nicely.
Mouth feel is medium for the style.
Overall a very nice example of a Brown Ale that I would definitely order again.
Cheers!

12 oz. bottle, bestby date 9-17.
Poured a nice nutty brown color, with a thick, off white head that hangs a round a while... still a good cover after 1/3 down.
Some great nutty rich malty aroma, though a bit faint.
Tastes after nose, with the nutty, malty, toffee up front and a perfect bittering with crisp carbonation. Iam sure the next one will need to sit a little longer to warm a bit, but this is going down really good. Aromas of malt and grains strengthening as it gets nearer the bottom. Feels like a perfect brown ale to me.
Overall, this Bad Penny is a great brown ale!

My introduction to Raleigh craft beer (although I had it in Charlotte a little over a year before moving down to NC). Crisp, slightly dry with nutty/toasted bread flavor notes. Slightly metallic tasting finish (it was off draught). It's a local staple around Raleigh, places that aren't even craft beer places tend to have it.
