Pale golden with some head.

Smell was fairly weak for me, sort of bready.

Taste is subtle, but pleasant. Cereal grains, breadiness, and a kiss of hops somewhere.

Mouthfeel crisp and refreshing.

Nothing wrong with this at all. Easy drinking here.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a pale, crystal clear, straw coloring with a frothy, foamy, tall, white head. Aromas of toasted grain and very subtle bitterness. Light nose. Flavors are toasted forward, with a bitter and slightly resinous hops character. Light, slightly effervesced body with a crisp, clean finish. The aftertaste is toasted, slightly buttered, and hoppy.

When I moved to North Carolina, I must admit that I was disappointed by the first few local beers I tried. So I owe Big Boss Brewing a big boss thanks for restoring my faith in NC brews, and it's largely because of this beer. I thought their Bad Penny was average for a brown ale (not particularly fond of the style though, to be fair), but this Kolsch just hits the spot on a warm summer evening, or perhaps simply paired with a gourmet sandwich at lunch.

The beer itself was light and welcoming, like any cold-fermented and processed brew should be, and was the color of a cloudless horizon just 15 minutes after sunset - a feather-light orange, but with lots of life. Big Boss claimed "bisquit malt flavors" and "floral hop notes", citing an intentionally dry finish, and I'd say they met their assertions with vigor. The Angry Angel is indeed angry, as she'll twist your palate a hair more than your average Kolsch (though we both know there's no such thing as an average Kolsch), but you'll love her for it.

Big Boss created a new favorite summer beer of mine, and they'll certainly be receiving my regular business. On that note, the race begins to try all of their seasonals!
