Poured from a 330 ml bottle into an Ommegang chalice. 01/10/09. 2006 vintage. Batch 4. Bottle started to slowly gush after opening.
Pours a deep brownish color with about two fingers of fizzy tan head. The head slowly dropped to a thin layer, excellent retention. Aroma is very funky and musky, like wet dirty socks. Earthy and slightly sour, with some spices and malt.
Taste is malty sweet with a biscuit-like flavor. Plenty of Belgian yeast and candied sugar. The taste is full of dark fruits (raisin, fig, date) and sour cherry. Spices (clove and allspice) and brown sugar round out the flavor profile. Sweet up front, then finishes sour. Very interesting. The alcohol is not noticeable at all in the taste.
Feel is very smooth and creamy from the high carbonation. It's full bodied and slightly heavy. Drinkability is decent. The alcohol is very well hidden and it goes down real smooth.
Overall, a darn good quad. Very tasty and easy to drink. A bit pricey (~$8 for 330 ml), but definitely worth it.
