2007 vintage. Pours deep brown, almost opaque, with a huge frothy head with good retention. Dark fruit, alcohol, raisins, and some sweetness on the nose. Flavor offers a mix of fruit like plum and dark cherry up front along with some spiciness. Surpringly dry - almost tart in the finish. Noticible alcohol also seems to contribute to the dryness. It has a reasonable level of complexity but not as much as I expected.
Overall a bit dissapointed in this one. Its reputation precedes it. Certainly a decent beer, but I was surprised by the lack of sweetness and maltiness typical of the big Belgians. Try it if you have the chance, but not really worth seeking IMO.
