A - Pours a murky apple cider color with a foamy white head into the snifter. Lots of floaties. Good retention, though.

S - Lots of yeast, a bowl of stale sugary candies at Grandma's house, apples. Light fruits, super nice. A decent hop note. Lots of random spices in the mix.

T - It's sweet. However, it's really good. Dried light fruity sweetness, alcohol, pure Belgian. Yeasty... also you can actually taste the water they brewed this with. I love it. I'm not a fan of hugely sweet Belgians yet this rides the thin line and still works for me.

M - Quite thick with prickly carbonation.

D - It's really sweet, and almost cloying, yet this beer is vanishing quickly. The abv is noticeable but doesn't detract. The price is the only rough thing here.

Notes: Worth a try. Reminds me of Gouden Carolus Rood, except good.

From a microbrewery. Oak-aged. It has a funny label of a drunk looking guy wearing a Santa hat with stars. I wonder what it means. It pours into a chalice with a nice creamy head. It looks dark brown, blurry. It smells like plums, licorice, brown sugar, some liquid bread, dark cherries. Medium body, medium to low carbonation, fruity in the middle and an explosion of flavors that hides the alcohol. This is pretty amazing.

Poured from 330mL bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: medium amber hue with lots of haze, crowned by a thick finger of creamy tan foam with great head retention. Not particularly pale, but definitely not dark; whatever it is, it's attractive.

Smell: very sweet and malty with a pretty decent dark-fruit character; there is plenty of date character in the mix. It really does straddle the line between a pear & apple Belgian pale and a raisin & date Belgian dark; frankly, I like it.

Taste: sweet malt with a little dankness and more of that middle-of-the-road fruitiness; there's pear, date and maybe even a little tobacco. It's a little on the sweet side for my taste, but that can be overlooked.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a big carbonation and concomitant creaminess. Ba-dow!

Overall: what a lovely beer. It is a bit too sweet for me, on balance, but there are too many good elements here to outweigh that factor. I think this is a great stab at a Christmas beer; big ABV and plenty of character, but not a big spice bomb. Dig it!

Pours a slightly cloudy amber with a tan colored head. Nice head retention that leaves thick gobs of lacing.

Lovely candied fruit scent. Notes of prunes, cinnamon, orange peel, candy, brown sugar, fruity yeast, and shortbread. Absolutely fantastic scent reminiscent of Christmas and all it's cookies and cakes.

Flavor is nearly as complex with a slight sweetness of fruit and candy. Definite notes of orange peel and cinnamon and allspice. Finishes warm and slightly sweet. Mouthfeel is full and lively, but not too spritzy. Very good beer and recommended.

Pours orangey amber with a large head.
Nose shows spicy phenols and noble hops along with a doughy yeast note and some apple esters. Also a fair whack of malt with caramel and confectionery notes.
Sweet malty flavours, again with a big confectionery character. Some noble hops remain along with a hit of booze. A little cloying.
