Almost walked right by these bottles of the 2008 vintage yesterday but fortunately I found them.
Pours a hazy mahogany brown color body with lighter caramel coloring and a decent looking tan colored head but unfortunately I didn't pour aggressively enough to really get the head I wanted.
Aroma is juicy and fruity initially with hints of raisins or grapes with some pear and apple hints too. Oak character seems to be giving a bit of its woody and vanilla like aroma before the spices can be detected.
Taste is wonderfully complex with lots of sweetness with notes of raisins and maybe fig but also some sweeter honey like flavors. Bitter unsweetened chocolate flavors are also noticeable but all this sweetness is nicely offset but the woody character of the oak and some of the spice. I'm guessing clove and coriander are the primary culprits here but its hard to be sure.
Mouthfeel is wonderfully well executed being smooth and creamy with a slightly tart feel to it too. Overall, I'm really loving this beer. A bit different than some other quads but quite delicious.
