This 0.33l bottle is courtesy of Brabander. Vintage 2009, with PNP No. 4 and best by date of 16/08/2016 on the label. Enjoyed outside on a breezy, Fall day...

Poured into a small tulip; it is a very deep, dark, opaque brown. Head is tan, foamy and fine, sitting at 1/2". Carbo is steady and plentiful, while the lacing is decent. Smells of ripe, dark fruit and some caramelized brown sugar. Body is medium-plus, and it is quite smooth heading down.

It does have some oak in the flavor, along with good doses of dates, raisins and figs. Mix in a touch of caramel and some hints of rummy brown bread And molasses next. It also has light touches of roasty bitterness. A tasty, well-made brew. Thnx, Thijs! Prosit!

Vintage 2009

Very dark, just like plums and blood. Thick and viscous with a bubbly tan head.

Raisin, nutty, spicy, milky, chocolaty, caramel, and lots of toffee

Heavy, well thought out flavors. Grape notes are great; buried in the right amount of sweetness. Nothing heavy, just strong robust flavors. Very chewy and nicely heavily carbonated. Smooth, no heat.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! This brew flies sooo far under the radar it's not funny. Amazing Quad!

11.2oz bottle (2008 - code A 4 DD) poured into a chalice. Pours a clear dark brown/mahogany with a soft, 1-finger khaki head that leaves behind a nice thin layer of lace.

Aroma is sweet candi sugar, dark fruit, spices and alcohol.

Taste is sweet dark malt, Belgian yeast, candied raisins and figs. Tons of plums, prunes, and other sweet sticky fruits. No hint of alcohol on the palate.

Mouthfeel is clean and smooth, just the right level of stickiness with a dry finish.

Overall a solid quad that hits all the right notes.

2009 vintage.

Pours an inky mahogany with a bone colored head that is barely there. The foam comes up like a magic spell conjured from the drink, the bubbles small and delicate. Lots of vanilla with dark milk chocolate, wet oak, and an alcohol tinge in the aroma. There is some plum and other dark fruit in there, but you have to take a big whiff, since the chocolate is so prevalent. Lots of dark chocolate throughout the flavor profile. Young oak wood and subtle vanilla bean waft through. There is some definite plum and date flavors that are potent like a juice, but fleeting, like it's peeking it's head above the chocolate flavor for air. This beer is thick with flavor not unlike a brownie. This is a dangerous beer, as I cannot detect the alcohol at all. Feel is balanced with a somewhat dry finish.

While I enjoyed this beer, I feel thre are more complex quads out there to be had for cheaper or the same price. The chocolate male is just too dominating.

2009 vintage. Dont remember where I got it or how much it was.

Appearance: Pours a dark iced-tea brown with a significant amount of chill haze. The head and lacing are disappointing for a quad-- especially a real Belgian one.

Smell: Very sweet smelling dark fruit and Belgian yeast. Dark berries, plum, raisin. Cakelike. Some pear and apple. Spicy, but not too much. Vanilla and woody oak.

Taste: Similar to the smell, except that the spice is much more prevalent in the flavor, as is the oak. Dark fruit, caramel and cake are there, but more present in the finish. It seems overspiced to me, and although the oak is nice, I think its a bit overdone too.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation is slightly low I feel, and the oak and booze thins the overall feel a bit. Not at all bad, but not perfect.

Overall: A damn good quad. I like the oak, but I'm not sure its any better than the regular Pannepot.

09 vintage totally not worth the hype. pours a clear caramel color with a red trace and a minimal white head that fades to nothing in seconds. the smell is just fine, sweet residual sugars from a big ass malt profile, a touch of molasses, and plento of booze. the flavor is a letdown to me though. it has none of the complexity im accustomed to in a quad. nothing woody about this, nothing spirited and clever in the malts used, and just way too much sugar and booze. this is not an elegant beer. the mouthfeel is flat and watered down, made caustic from the alcohol, which should have mellowed out by now. sticky sweet feeling left after the last sip, a funny buzz, and a turning tummy. this isnt anywhere near one of the best quads ive had. good beer by other standards maybe, or maybe my bottle was bunk, but this was a huge letdown for me.

2009

A-very dark brown with a thin tan head

S-strong dark belgian grains and caramels. some brown sugars. smells potent. some oak in there.

T-comes in with amazing taste of creamy dark belgian malts and dog breath. ooo this tastes like a true belgian. some peppercorn. oh this beer just makes love to every inch of my mouth. it pleases every sense. i'm truly impressed. the after-taste is awesome with good dark belgian malts and sugars. wow this is a good beer.

M-so thick and creamy. good amount of carbonation with a dry finish

O-i think every sip i take, i taste something new and different. this beer is too complex to accurately review. so much is happening. so much is going on. its so drinkable. i'm not sure where the 10% is, because i can't taste it in this quad. simply put, best quad i've ever had.

A: poured a dark murky brown in color with pale brown highlights and a thin head that left almost no lacing sticking to the glass.

S: pretty much has aroma as the regular pannepot but you can tell it was barrel aged due to the vanilla oakiness coming through with plenty of dark fruitiness, brown sugar, sweet belgian yeast, and hints of pears.

T: lots going on the palate consisting of dark fruits such as raisins and plums alongside pear esters, belgian yeast sweetness, barrel oakiness, vanilla accents, boozy heat on the backend but mild chocolate flavor.

M: the brew was medium in body with a low amount of carbonation which had a sweet, mild dark fruity, chocolatey, oaky, and slightly boozy finish.

O: solid once again like the base beer and the barrel aging worked it's magic.

Poured into a snifter. The bottle says 2009. There is a nice off-white fluffy head atop a clear dark amber/brown body.

The aroma is full of prune and cinnamon spice. There is a slight note of molasses and vanilla.

The taste balances the fruity, prune-like yeast influence with the dark malts. There is a great vanilla note here as well. There is a hint of spice in the finish, but ultimately finishes with a burst of juiciness.

This is medium bodied, with smooth carbonation. This is a real treat. I like Pannepot alright, but this is definitely a step up.

2009 vintage

A really dark brown beer, hardly any light coming through at all. A medium off white head with reasonable retention. Beautiful.

Smells very good: big sweet dark fruits in here, caramel/brown sugar, oak, vanilla. Basically a nice quad with quite some oakiness.

The taste starts out with fruity sweetness. Nice and than it moves towards a more malt dominated taste. Quite a dry, roast-like maltiness. The oak gives it that distict woody, vanilla and toffee flavour, especially in the aftertaste. It works really well with this beer. Complex. A tasty brew for sure.

The mouthfeel is medium, for example the Westvleteren 12 has a more rich mouthfeel. Still, this is not bad at all and still rather creamy. Low to medium carbonation, which fits the style if you ask me.

Overall a great beer, I really like what the oak did to this beer. Now I just need to try the normal version! My second beer from this brewery and again this is very good. I will look out for more of their beers!
