Best before date: April 2013

Purchased through Kracked Kettle, Netherlands.

Price - $17.37 US

Appearance: Pours with a two inch lite tan head. Black in color as the name suggests. As the beer warms some lacing appears on the glass but doesn't stick around long. sediment present in the snifter as the bottle comes to an end.

Smell: Chocolate upfront with raisins. A bit of roastiness and a fair amount of alcohol.

Taste: Chocolate and fruit sweetness first followed by a dry taste. Finishes with a mild bitter taste. Alcohol noticeable but not a surprise at 13%.

Mouthfeel: Creamy feel and silky smooth.

Drinkability: This beer is best served on the warmer side. If served too cold it tastes infected to me. Let this one warm up a bit and enjoy what it has to offer. Personally I like the draft version much better, but that can be said for many beers.

ah yes, the hype of black albert...330ml bottle from Riley's with a high price-tag...split with black bart

apppearance: poured into a snifter, robust ebony body, light mahogany cream lace...chocolate hues

smell: roasty, licorice, layers of dark chocolate, a touch of espresso

taste: seems like a product of the hype to me - high quality RIS with a limited enough availability and high price tag to make it infamous...this is a powerful powerful stout - drinks like rocket fuel. layers upon layers of dark chocolate are the focal point, with hints of oatmeal, espresso, and dark roasted malts below. alcohol is a bit heavy but bitterness is quite low. kind of reminds me of a jacked up storm king stout

mouthfeel: full and coating, high booze, light bitterness, robust

drinkability: 165ml is a good serving size for me

Poured from a bottle into an Ommegang glass. Dark black color, thick tan head, with lots of sediment. Strong taste of figs with a hint of coffee underneath. This is a very different beer, as it has characteristics of both a RIS and a Quad. At 13%, not a beer to drink all night, but it hides the alcohol well.

Our group of 4 Beer Advocate members did a recent small bottle tasting of high alcohol brews.
Among the 12 brews tasted was; Black Albert Belgium Royal Stout from De Struise Brouwers (Belgium) This Black Albert was brewed as a tribute to Chris Lively at Ebenezer's Pub (once rated number 1 pub in the country) located in Lovell Maine (summer home of author Stephen King)
The Black Albert was given to us by Chris himself and it tied for 4th highest average score of the 12 brews tasted at 4.25. This was a beer with some age to it. Date code indicates it was brewed back on Nov 6th 2007. Age didn't seem to hurt this beer one bit.

Split bottle with a friend a couple nights ago. Got this is a package from one of 4 people who has sent me one. Thanks for everything you guys!

A- Pours a deep dark black color. Some light brown hues when held to the light. 2 finger mocha colored head stays for a short while before laying a cap just on top of the beer. Good lacing on the sides of the glass...thick in some areas.

S- Dark fruits in the front end of this (prunes and cherries). There is a sweetness as well like brown sugar mixed in with a light roasted malt. Glad to see the roasted malts don't take over everything. Also, the alcohol in this one is covered very well in the aroma making appearances very calmly and quickly.

T- Taste wish the darker fruits come into play a lot more in the front like in the aroma. Light sugary sweetness also mixes in with the fruits. The middle is playing grounds for the roasted malts....get a small hint of coffee that becomes more apparent as the beer itself warms up. Light bitter almost dry hopping notes in the back end of this beer.

M- Heavy mouthfeel. Carbonation is good with the stlye. Dark fruits with a hint of roast are left on the palate with the roasted malts making more of a dominating feature toward the aftertaste. Flavors were crisp and very clean overall in the beer. Left a slight oily presence everywhere in the mouth.

D- This was a very drinkable beer. I wish there would have been a little more in the roasted malts department as flavor goes but this beer is something that should be tried by as many people as possible. I will look forward to trying my other bottles and hope to trade for more.
