Thanks goes to exiled for this one. It was part of one of our many trades. Poured into my duvel tulip from a bottle.

A: Pitch black brown. Nice cascade. Full thick two fingers of mocha hued head. Thick lace rings and a solid cap left on top.

S: Sweet rich chocolate fudge cake. Roast malts and coffee. Molasses and hints of campfire. Just a hint of heat. Which is amazing with the abv being as high as it is.

T: The flavor pretty much mirrors the nose. Perfect balance of roasty bitterness and sweet dark chocolate. Molasses and campfire are present as well. Again just a touch of heat.

M: Medium body. Just a touch thin for a RIS. Low carbonation.

D: Overall very well done RIS. Easy drinking and super flavorful.

Bottle courtasy of gford217

Poured from a brown bottle into a snifter. Upon opening, this thing is a real gusher. I tried to put my finger over it and let out pressure slowly so not to lose to much liquid.

a good inch of fizzy cola like, dark brown head sits atop this dark black beer. Leaving thin spotty lace.

Aroma is very sweet with lots of sweet dark chocolate and moist chocolate cake like aroma. Hints of black licorice and more sweetness mixed with a chocolate nutty character. Wiffs of a whiskey like alcahol aroma.

This is very rish and alcahol warmth rushes in, warning me to sip it a little slower. Big black licorice flavors mixing well with pungeant dark, sweet chocolate cake. This is pretty highly carbonated, reminding me its a belgian after all. Is it a RIS with a belgian yeast strain?
Some dark fruits in here with an almost red grape/ chimay like flavor.
Finishing chocolaty and becoming a bit more dry with a dark chocolate bittering roastyness.

Very delicious and quite different from any other imperial stout I've had.

330ml bottle served just off temperature in a wine goblet. Batch 14

Black Albert, along with similar stouts aged in different ways such as Cuvve Delphine which I sampled in the cosy and eminently gracious and friendly, t' Brugs Beertje. At €7 a bottle some may pout at my exuberance but the dark, rich, oaked stout aged in bourbon barrels was fantastic.

The rich sticky stout pours with a slightly viscous, oily body with a dark mahogany brown bo
dy with no visible light penetration. A little whisp of a light cocoa head with little bubbles of snake like lacing up and down the edges of the balloon wine glass it calls home this evening.

Despite my rather sniffly demeanour this 13% whopper doesn't lead with subtleties in any respect. The initial waft of alcohol laden tobacco tinged chocolate and espresso soon subsides with a sweet tinge of vanilla, lavender and Turkish delight.

Buttered slightly burnt toast on the palette, huge amount of charring, smoke and cigarillos (it sounds anal but certainly not the depth of a Cohiba or Montecristo) Surprisingly thin mouthfeel for a stout of this size, not comparable to the rich creaminess of something like Stone 12th Anniversary Oatmeal or Victory's sublime Storm King. Low on carbonation with a deceiving drink-ability, the finish is full of the usual plethora of bitter chocolate, espresso and of course the obligatory roasted malt.

This is stout number two from the young brothers and based on comparison with the bourbon aged Cuvee Delphine I do prefer the whiskey aged monster. It might have been the traditional Flemish surroundings or the four or five beers that I had before it but the Cuvee takes pride of place as the best Flanders stout I've had thus far.

Had on tap at Armsby Abbey.

A: Pours a deep black color with a massive dark tan/mocha colored had that takes a good couple minutes to dissipate. Leaves some serious lacing.

S: The scent consists of sweet chocolates, dark fruits (strong aroma) with a slight roasted scent and a bit of alcohol. The beer has a very sweet aroma to it.

T: The taste is much like the smell, there is a rich chocolate flavor up front with dark fruits and sweet malts. There is a roasted flavor with a bit of alcohol as well. The finish is creamy.

M: Full bodied with not much carbonation. The feel is creamy throughout and sweet as well.

D: This is a very good beer, it is very smooth (for 13% ABV) and well balanced, between the sweet and roasted malts. As mentioned above, the 13% is not unnoticed, but it is only slight.

Batch 14, lot B-6-BB, 11.2 oz bottle poured into a large wine glass.

Almost black, with an inch of dense tan head that leaves plenty of finely textured lace.

Nice stouty aroma of dark caramel and roasty coffee.

Tastes surprisingly fruity, like berries, which works well with the coffee, caramel, and chocolate flavors. Full flavored, tasty, smooth, well balanced. Long slightly bittersweet finish of coffee and fruit.

Medium bodied, with smooth tiny-bubbled carbonation. Nicely balanced, easy to drink.

Serving type- 11.3 ounce bottled poured into a Duck Rabbit snifter. Got this in a trade with djrn.

This beer pours a jet black like motor oil. There is a nice two finger tan head that is present after the pour that eventually fades into a small nonexistent head. There is a good cling in the glass that stays around till the end. The only smell notes I am getting from this is alcohol. The taste is remanisent of a mainstay RIS. There is a subtle coffee undertone which has a mellow undertone followed by an strong alcohol finish. The strength of this beer is nowhere near present as you drink it. The mellow flavor of the beer masks the very high ABV and this could make the beer very dangerous if you were to drink more than one or two. As far as taste goes this is seems to me to be a run of the mill RIS but the strength of the beer is where it seperates itself from other Russian Imperial Stouts. I am happy I was able to have this beer finally but it is probably not something I would trade for again.

Carbonation was high. Aroma was quite outstanding. Acidity and mouthfeel was so clean and fresh / refreshing. Heightened state of flavors lifted them, maybe too much. Small 330cl i guess bottle shared at toronado sd. Could see how this can age for years and years. Great aroma and femenin and lite is what I really felt. Pretty good. Wish it was on shelves and something I could try more often and age.
