Beautiful black beer, topped with a solid tan head with remarkable retention. Leaves nice soapy lacing.

Incredibly strong aroma: boozy roasty stout, lots of chocolate, and a bit of yeasty banana sweetness. Just the barest hint of oxidation, and that requires some deep inhalation.

Boozy, overripe fruit, and a bit of oxidation on the flavor. Almost ashy bite to the roasted barley comes in mid-palate. Just a tiny bit of chocolate. Fairly bitter overall, but pretty balanced. Perhaps aged past its peak.

Fairly thick, full body. Oily coating. Booze shows far more in the taste than the body. Long wet finish.

This is a beer that really held some promise from the appearance and aroma, but I think may be simply too old to have held up perfectly (having never had it fresh, I cannot say). The real deep and dark tones from the aroma never quite transfer to the flavor.

This is probably more true to the Belgian stout style than Russian imperial. 2007 bottle, I believe ('07 or '09).

Poured from a 330 ml into snifter
A- Jet black with a half-finger brownish head some lingering lace, but not heavy.
S- Chocolate, licorice, raisins, figs, booze.
T- rich, chocolate booziness balanced by a slight bitterness on the end. Some of the fruit appears again as well. Roasted malt and some biscuity Belgian flavor as well.
M- Velvety smooth creaminess to the feel. Really decadent. Awesome.
O- really love the way this beer drinks. Flavors aren't out-of-this-world good, but solid, nonetheless. Really super drinkability but watch out. Got some booze here.
